Like your freedom? Just want to be alone for a while? We get it. Check out these ideas for that quality me-time you’re planning to take.
Does the idea of hanging out by yourself fill you with dread, or is it something you’ve been craving? If solo travel is becoming a norm, then there’s absolutely no reason you can’t spend some quality me-time in this city! Besides the obvious spa and massage treatments you can indulge in, we’ve got heaps of fun stuff to do here by your lonesome…
Catch up on all your reading
Chilling with a good book is one of the best ways to spend some quality me-time. While you can check into one of the national libraries in town (we recommend [email protected]!), try dropping by a quiet cafe for a good read. Our personal fave is the pretty-in-pastel Looksee Looksee for an hour or two of curling up on a couch with a good book and some tea. Do not disturb!
Enjoy a movie you actually want to watch
Got some time to spend on your own? Watching a movie is a no-brainer option. Go on and catch that sappy flick you’ve been wanting to see but none of your other friends do. Indulge in some popcorn and snacks (that you don’t even have to share), and laugh out loud freely at the funny scenes – it might actually be therapeutic. If you want, you could be a little adventurous and catch a movie at an alternative cinema instead of your usual go-to.
Take time to improve your photography skills
The city is packed to the rafters with award-winning architectural wonders – and we don’t just mean the soaring skyscrapers of the CBD. From wonderfully bizarre Art Deco-style office buildings to futuristic mosques, they’re a good reason to time to take time off and admire the architectural wonders in Singapore through your lens. (Psst: We say treat yourself to a sweet new camera for all those solo photography adventures around town.)
Go on a hike!
When the going gets tough, get out of the urban gridlock and head back into nature – hiking is definitely one fun way to keep your sanity intact (with health perks along the way). From secret islands to established trails around MacRitchie Reservoir, take your pick from the nature trail choices Singapore offers – just remember to gear up proper before you set out!
Obtain peace of mind with an Om-worthy escape
Surely you can go solo on this – grab your trusty mat, and detox mentally and physically with yoga at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The lush greenery and fresh air will calm you down in no time. Join an outdoor yoga class (look out for pop-up sessions!) or if you’re confident doing on your own, good on you! No harm to look your best while you’re practicing your warrior pose.
Let out all the frustration and rage
Feeling angry and stressed out? Got an urge to destroy things? Vent your frustrations at Singapore’s first rage room in Balestier: The Fragment Room. Check out how it all went down here: https://goo.gl/rvg2ll

Don’t keep it all in! Let’s go break and destroy some things – legally, of course. The Fragment Room is one smashing place to be if you have pent-up anger you want to release, but don’t want your friends to see your ‘rage face’. How does it work? You pay for the hour and proceed to break wine glasses, bottles, plates, bowls with a wood or metal bat. Pure satisfaction.

Don’t get lonely, get creative
Art should be judgment-free and the best time to do it is on your own. Sign up for an art jamming session at a studio and let the paint tell your story on the canvas. These places will usually provide you with everything you need for freestyle painting, including brushes, colours, and even a drink – so you’re all covered! Or you could also attend a creative workshop and craft your own jewellery, leather goods and even ceramic pots!
Take care of yourself
Planning to prioritise wellness and bring your mental health back on track? We have options! Try out flotation tanks that apparently put you in a deep, meditative state for your worries to melt away. Or take a day off and slow down to recharge. Wanna pamper yourself with a lavish beauty routine? Take note of our A to Z guide to skincare. Alternatively, there’s always the magic of aromatherapy and crystals (if you’re a believer) you can indulge in – from essential oils to luxury candles. Bliss.
Shop ’til you drop
Credit cards out, there’s no me-time therapy like retail therapy. Besides, shopping is the best go-to activity when you need to cheer yourself up. Hit the usual shopping malls, go on a shopping neighbourhood crawl, get your hands dirty at a flea market or keep it simple and indoorsy by shopping online – with a glass of wine in your hand, of course.
Up your hipster game by going record hunting
Sure, everyone’s on Spotify (us included) and we all love rocking out to live music, but the old school vinyl is far from obsolete. There’s something rather timeless (and seductive) about removing a glossy 12-inch from its sleeve, placing it on a player, gently dropping the needle onto the record, and taking in the warm, glorious sound bellowing from the speakers. Intrigued? Time to go crate-digging at these record stores in Singapore!
