Get authentic vintage treasures right from the source at these old school stores in Singapore! You'll need to dig around quite a bit...
We’ve seen appreciation for old Singapore stuff grow a lot more recently, from quirky nostalgic Singapore gifts to old-school bakeries and coffee shops getting in the spotlight. We’re mighty pleased about that, but if you want to bring home a piece of history with you, it’s best to hit these antique collectible stores around town for a bit of treasure hunting…
Tong Mern Sern
Be greeted with a bright and loud banner over the store (you can’t miss it) and then prepare to get lost in a world of treasures. Clocks, plates, vases, chairs, and even old Japanese “banana money”. There’s lots to go through – over three floors! – at this old haunt in Craig Road so spend a lazy afternoon or a free day exploring and don’t be afraid to ask the friendly old uncles working at the store questions!
Tong Mern Sern, 51 Craig Rd, Singapore 089689
Viewpoint Trading and Collectibles
Catch a glimpse of Singapore’s past at a browsing session at Viewpoint Trading and Collectibles in Chinatown. Find old F&N drink crates, vintage beer bottles and glasses, granny teacup sets and other collectibles here. But if you’re an enthusiast of vintage toys, this place holds quite a collection as well.
Viewpoint Trading and Collectibles, 150 South Bridge Road, #01-07 Fook Hai Building, Singapore 058727
This one’s a little bit out of the way unless you live near the old Turf City, but you’ll find yourself transported to a different side of Singapore. The store is packed to the rafters with all kinds of cool stuff. Find stone lions, typewriters, old signs, terracotta pots, Peranakan chamber pots, several Sony walkman sets, coffee tables and more. Just imagine, it’s a whole entire stretch of road filled with stuff so be ready to get your hands dirty. Helps if you have some bargaining skills as well…
Junkie’s Corner, 2 Turf Club Road, Singapore 287988
Odds ‘N’ Collectables
Located on our favourite street in Singapore (we’re biased), Odds ‘N’ Collectables is a standout from the usual cafes and nice eateries in the precinct. If you’re looking for a conversation piece for your home – think vintage enamel trays, old school posters, mini peacock chairs (we snapped up a couple at $15 each!) – then this is the place to scour around. If you’re looking for something in particular, just ask the owner, Juzer, who seems to know where everything is in this unmissable place that’s literally packed to the rafters. Happy digging for treasure!
Odds ‘N’ Collectables, 128 Telok Ayer St, Singapore 068597
The Heritage Shop
If you’re looking for a shop version of Singapore’s history, this store has everything. From documents on the redevelopment of Haw Par Villa to Malayan annals from way back, women’s magazines from the days of Malaya to vintage newspaper broadsheets still in mint condition. Besides printed documents, you’ll also find pretty tiffin carriers, old Milo cans, clocks, hand-painted plates, Peranakan dividers (and more chamber pots), oil lamps and other antiques.
The Heritage Shop, 93 Jln Sultan, Singapore 198997
You might hear it before you see it, this quaint store in Excelsior Shopping Centre is regularly blasting 60s and 70s music during business hours. If anything, the vibrant display window of the store will definitely lure you in. Have fun perusing vintage knick knacks, old-school toys, classic film posters, vinyl from local artists in the past.
