I’m always on the lookout for the best pasta spots in Hong Kong. Newly opened in Causeway Bay, La Volta impresses with unique artisanal pasta under the leadership of Jeffrey Mui and Chef Roland Schuller. Made fresh daily, the pasta plates spotlight seasonal ingredients with classics like Spaghetti alla Carbonara and imaginative creations like the Mafaldine, rich but refreshing with a fresh broccolini pesto. As a frequent traveller to Thailand, I appreciate how Thonglor in Kowloon City embodies the charm of Bangkok’s food culture. With only 20 something seats, this eatery is a cosy nook perfect for date nights and catching up with small groups of friends. Chef Junwoo Choi’s menu crafts sharing plates filled with unexpected delights, like the tender Yuk Hoe and crispy deep-fried cauliflower, all designed to pair with artisanal Korean spirits.

Fantastic news for Taiwanese beef noodle fans! Duan Chun Zhen has just launched its fifth Hong Kong outpost at ELEMENTS in West Kowloon. This new spot brims with the brand/s signature Sichuan flavours and the bustling vibe of Taiwanese night markets. Unsurprisingly, my favourite thing to order is the signature beef noodles, made with a rich 18-hour broth. And for snacks, the Sanxing Scallion Pancake and Taiwanese Fried Chicken are always winners.

N+ Burger has opened a new waterfront location in Kennedy Town. And who can say no to a juicy burger while enjoying panoramic harbour views! Using hormone-free Angus beef directly sourced from their own grain-fed pasture in Australia, the premium patties are well seasoned and always bursting with flavours. Plus, they use sourdough buns from Bakehouse, which pair amazingly with the different fillings.

Torikizoku’s new expansion at Tai Po

Exciting news for yakitori lovers! Torikizoku, the beloved Japanese yakitori chain, has officially soft-opened its second Hong Kong location in Tai Po, with the grand opening slated for August 18th. I’m particularly thrilled about this expansion due to my love for chicken cartilage, which is offered here in a salted grilled version – the sauce free presentation really highlights the flavour of the ingredient. I also recommend giving strawberry milk a try, which is an exclusive HK menu item!

Newly opened in Kerry Hotel’s Dockyard is a Korean concept named The Porch. This casual joint serves up a wide variety of K-cuisine, from kochi skewers and fiery tteokbeokki to refreshing naengmyeon. A personal highlight is the Dad’s PayDay Chicken, inspired by the traditional working class family feast that usually takes place on the day the breadwinner gets paid. It’s crispy, incredibly juicy, and made extra special as it’s personally served to you tableside by a handsome oppa. It’s a must to get messy when you dine here, but don’t fret, there are plenty of napkins and gloves to go around!

Lorenzo Antinori of Bar Leone is embarking on a new adventure with long-time friend and fellow 50 Best title holder Simone Caporale of Sips in Barcelona. Montana pays homage to the golden age of Cuban mixology with a nod to the spicy energy in ‘70s Miami. Expect a menu of classics reinvented with Antinori’s and Caporale’s signature touches. Next Shikaku reopens in Central

After a brief renovation, Gough Street’s ramen specialist Next Shikaku is reopening with a fresh look and updated menus. Rest assured, the restaurant’s Japanese oysters series remain the star of the show, while new dishes elevated with ingredients like smoked Japanese chashu and cherry woon-smoked egg adds to your dining experience. To celebrate their reopening, they’re offering a no service charge policy until the end of June, so be sure to pay Next Shikaku a visit before then!

We were utterly impressed by Spice Bazaar’s flavourful offerings! Tucked between the high rises in Tsim Sha Tsui, Chef Balram Yadav’s passion project brings wallet-friendly authenticity to the local crowd in an equally approachable cafe-inspired interior. The menu of tandoori, curries, and breads is a testament to Chef Yadav’s 30 years of culinary experience. Each dish delivers a burst of flavours, transporting you to dining rooms of Bihar, Rajasthan, and Udaipur. If the first bite of Chicken 65 wasn’t enough to convince you, Spice Bazaar’s weekday lunch deal – with unlimited refills of biryani rice, naan, and fries – might just make it your new favourite Indian restaurant in Hong Kong.

Slated to open in early April, Pintxos stays true to its name: think Basque Country’s iconic pintxos (finger food), including a diverse selection of savoury bites on toast or bread alongside heartier plates from Spain’s northern reaches. Torikizoku

If you ever need an excuse to go to Tuen Mun, this is it! Popular Japanese yakitori and izakaya brand, Torikizoku, is opening its first store in Hong Kong this month. The new restaurant boasts an expansive interior and energetic decor that are ideal for small and large group dining. On the menu is a diverse selection of yakitori items as well as appetisers, rice, noodles, and desserts. In particular, Torikizoku’s chicken skewers make the perfect accompaniment to its extensive alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
