Hot New Tables
Around the world in 80 days? No thanks – we’ll get it done in just a few hours! Here are new tickets that will take you from Europe to Asia, the Caribbean, San Fran, and down under.
Ding Dong
Ding Dong – it’s time for Southeast Asian remixes by Chef Ryan Clift on your plate! Backed by Open Door Policy, this three-floor resto will be Ann Siang’s newest kid on the block. Have ethnic and exotic Vietnamese coleslaw or go for white miso and yuzu kingfish wing served on seaweed. Even our fav kong bak pau (braised pork bun) has been remade here – Chef Ryan has spun this classic into a hay smoked pork bun with cucumber and crispy shallots. Need a drink? Have an Asian cocktail on the second floor.
Ding Dong, 23 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069703, p. 6557 0189. Open for Mon-Fri 6-11pm (bar remains open till 2am), Sat 6pm-2am.
Muchachos
Burritos are right up there on our list of favourite food, so of course we were stoked to get wind of Muchachos, the latest kid to join the burrito block (and Keong Saik Road). They just opened for service last week, but already we’ve heard great things about this Mission-style burrito bar. Build your own burrito by choosing from pork, chicken, beef, fish, or lamb – and then heap on those toppings.
Muchachos, 22 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089129, p. 9188 8925. Open Mon-Sat 12pm-12am.
The Providore café
We raved about The Providore Warehouse at Tan Boon Liat; now get ready to eat your way through The Providore Café, which serves western-style food with a modern Australian influence. Located on the second floor of Mandarin Gallery, the café will cater to the contemporary Singaporean diner – breakfast goes from 9am till 12 daily, and the brunch menu is available until 3pm on weekends and public holidays. Dinner at The Providore is a homely, small plates sharing menu concept. With dishes like Spanish baked eggs, ricotta pancakes, lobster mac & cheese, and grilled mackerel and bacon crostini, we predict this one’s going to be a winner. You heard it here first.
The Providore café, Mandarin Gallery, second floor. Open daily 9am-1030pm.
Da Laura
Italians, this is where you can feel at home again – even their Sicilian tomatoes are said to taste different. At Italian resto Da Laura, Executive Chef Michele Blasi abides by one simple philosophy – each dish has no more than three or four ingredients so that the natural flavours of each will be at their fullest. Bite into the Sea Bass Burger for something light, tuck into Mediterranean red prawns carpaccio, and find a perfect match for your munchies with their vintage wines.
Da Laura, 47 Neil Road, Singapore 088827, p. 6224 8251. Open Mon-Fri 12-230pm and 630-10pm, Sat 630-10pm.
C Side
At C Side, it’s a 5-in-1 affair at the beach: three restos have been revamped, two have been added to the story, and each one has a different theme. Opt for Coastes’ rustic charm and food or Singapore’s only Bintang Bar at Bikini Bar. Thirsty after some time out in the heat and sand? Walk right into the Sand Bar for a cold drink – you can even go barefoot at this standing bar.
If you’ve run out of ideas for food options on the beach, here are two new ones for your picnic mats. Pick up BBQ delights like roast chicken, kebabs, and pizzas at Flame (Singapore’s only beach rotisserie) or take your fave local hawker food with you from Makan2.
C Side, 50 Siloso Beach Walk, #01-06, Singapore 099000, p. 66318939. Open Mon-Thu 9am-11pm, Fri-Sat 9am-1am, Sun 9am-11pm.
Petite Menu
Thoughtful and well-balanced meals dished out with good service. If you think you knew what a great dining experience means, Petite Menu in the Jalan Besar ‘hood might change your mind – in a good way. These hot dishes might get you talking: torched Ribeye steaks seasoned with Maldon sea salt, shallow fried Chicken Confit, and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta (made with REAL vanilla beans) topped with lychee pearls.
Petite Menu, Aqueen Lavender Hotel, Level 1, 139 Lavender Street, Singapore 338739, p. 6395 7782. Open daily 7am-11am (breakfast) and 12pm-11pm (lunch and dinner).
Lime House
Up for a fresh new lifestyle and dining concept? At Lime House, say hello to “liming” – it’s the national pastime in the Caribbean. This new resto and bar packs gastro and cocktail power into liming: tuck into flame-grilled jerk chicken and Caribbean fish and mango chutney or head on upstairs for their dedicated rum bar!
Lime House, 2 Jiak Chuan Road, Singapore 089260, p. 6222 3130. Open Tue-Sun 12pm-2am.
Tamashii Robataya
At Tamashii Robataya, watch as your food is grilled and served to you on a Samoji – this is a tribute to the fishermen from Northeastern Japan, who served their catch of the day on wooden oars. On the prized grill menu: sazae (a type of sea snail), hamaguri (round clams), mushrooms, and other kinds of seafood. If you’re going for the raw picks, rave over shiro bagai (Japanese ivory shell).
Tamashii Robataya, 12 North Canal Road, #02-01, Singapore 048825, p. 6222 0316. Open Mon-Sat 1230pm-230pm and 630pm-1030pm.
PappaSan
Go around the world in just a few hours. PappaSan serves up European and Asian faves on their international menu. Set sail with Sailing Sticky Pork Ribs or go white with Snow Mountain Baked Fish. Whether you’re a foodie who’s a meat-lover or vegetarian, we’re betting you’ll find something you love – tuck into Lobster Crispy Noodles or go for Vegetarian Fried Rice (stir-fried rice with vegetables, tofu, tomatoes, and olives).
PappaSan, Dorsett Regency Singapore, 333 New Bridge Road, #01-01, Singapore 088765, p. 6820 1316. Open daily 730am-11pm.
SKIRT @ W Hotel
Not very new (they’ve been open for 10 months), but this is a route brave knights have to meat. True to their slogan, SKIRT has the boldest grill. Get excited with seared US scallops served, then eat out their Parilla menu that’s as brazen as their name: Tajima Australian Crossbreed Wagyu range (25 day dry-aged cuts including “Shiro Kin Full Blood”), Creekstone Farms Premium USDA Corn Fed beef ribs, Dorper Suckling Lamb, and a seafood range made up of the freshest sustainable catch from the sea. Don’t miss their Sunday brunch – it’s divine.
SKIRT, W Singapore, 21 Ocean Way, Singapore 098387, p. 6808 7278. Open daily 7pm-12am.
