This Bukit Timah mall has weekend vibes all over it, with chill cafes, resortwear boutiques and decor stores
For days when we tire of being in the thick of it all (the shopping, the buzzy bars and cool restos), we look for an escape. And that for us is leafy Bukit Timah, where underrated boutiques and cafes sit quietly beside each other. Cluny Court is a prime example – it’s the perfect brunch spot for coffee and freshly baked breads with plenty of beachwear boutiques and home decor stores. Bonus: it’s located just beside Botanic Gardens. Sunday mornings, sorted.
The Affogato Bar
As its name suggests, The Affogato Bar is all about the coffee-based dessert. Seven types of affogato are available here with each made with double espresso shots from Dimattima (a household name in Melbourne’s coffee scene). A chocolate lover’s dream come true takes shape in Death by Chocolate, where dark chocolate sorbet, brownie chunks and chocolate streusels come together with a bitter espresso shot. Not a fan of dessert? Drinks here will equally delight. We’re not just talking about the coffee brews. Chai here comes in four flavours: chocolate, spiced, dark vanilla and vanilla.

This Cluny Court mainstay was ahead of its in time; back in 2006, good burgers were a rarity in Singapore but Relish stepped in to shake up the scene. 12 years later, the restaurant still serves up its classics like its blue cheese, poached pear & walnut burger and bacon and cheese, along with other brunch staples and pastas. Bonus points for the breezy space which gives us major vacay vibes.

If you want nothing more than a quiet morning over freshly baked bread, Simply Bread is quite simply, it. Grab a spot by one of its large windows and dig in – fill your stomach with hearty sandwiches (roast beef and grilled cheese are its classics), or nibble on sticky buns with coffee on the side. Don’t leave without ordering a large loaf. Baked inhouse, the selection of ciabatta, sourdough and rye walnut makes for several meals.

It’s true: we mourned when SPRMRKT moved from its McCallum street location (right near Honeycombers HQ) to Cluny Court. The bright side? Its new locale is wonderfully hidden, and, now that it’s out of the CBD, has a more relaxed weekend vibe. Settle in for an all-day breakfast here or a grain bowl, or go for the hearty comfort dishes with some local twists: think salted egg carbonara and an amazing slow-roasted Kecap Manis chicken thigh.

Da Paolo Gastronomia
When the Botanic Gardens MRT station finally opened its doors, we had one reason to rejoice: Da Paolo Gastronomia. The alfresco area of the cafe is our fave spot to wile away Sunday mornings over mains from the deli or straight off the menu. For a spot of decadence, try the signature tiramisu, rich chocolate layer or nutella cake. Don’t feel too guilty if you leave absolutely stuffed. Botanic Gardens is a mere three minute walk away.

The cupcake craze may have come and gone, but Plain Vanilla’s are here to stay. Follow your nose to get to the freshly baked cakes. Must trys include the milk chocolate chip cupcake, red velvet or dark chocolate marshmellow, to be downed with a piping hot coffee or tea.

Sugar K Organic Peel Bar
Two words: Face peel. The concept is a little terrifying for the uninitiated, but rest assured that removing your skin’s top layer of dead skin cells does wonders to improving skin texture and smoothing out scars and bumps. If it’s any comfort, we’ve found a gentler alternative in the all-natural face peel by Sugar K Organic Peel Bar. Products used are wholly organic, with ingredients free of pesticides, artificial fertilisers and food additives. The peel in question takes a mere 20 minutes – perfect for those quick lunchtime pop-ins – and uses a sugar cane-derived formula which combines a potent blend of citrus fruit acids to gently exfoliate skin.
