Looking for fuss-free drinks and a side of good food to go along with it? Hit up these pubs in Singapore.
Cocktail bars and speakeasies in Singapore get plenty of limelight, and rightly so. But dropping $25 on a (decidedly tasty) cocktail on a regular basis isn’t for everyone. So we’re here to show a little love to our stalwart neighbourhood pubs. Never mind the grunginess or the dinginess – neighbourhood pubs are unpretentious second homes. Here are pubs in Singapore for you to kick back and crack open a cold one with the gang over good food.
Fuss-free pubs in Singapore
1. The Drunken Poet
Irish pubs are truly where it’s at for cracking open cold ones. Be whisked away to the land of Ireland at The Drunken Poet. Pints of Guinness here will set you back less than $15 during happy hour. And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, go for Kilkenny, Strongbow, or Heineken that’s all available on tap. We love getting a basket of loaded fries to go along with it. Topped with chilli beef, jalapenos, cheese, and salsa, it’s the perfect salty treat. It gets extra lively during peak sporting season, so if you love that energetic vibe, you know where to be!
The Drunken Poet, #01-29C, Orchard Towers, 400 Orchard Road, Singapore 238875
2. The Jolly Roger
Don’t worry, no pirates here (at least we hope not). This neighbourhood pub in Hillview is located halfway up a hill. Hidden away by lush greenery, it’s exactly where you need to be for a respite from the work day. They’re open every day – that’s right, every day. The all-day breakfast is an absolute treat. You can get a full English breakfast with all the fixings for just $21. We’re talking British sausage, bacon, eggs, brioche, tomato, hashbrowns, mushrooms, and baked beans. Phew, what a dream. It’s dog-friendly and even regularly screens live sporting events like rugby and tennis.
The Jolly Roger, 15 Chu Lin Road, Singapore 669907
3. Old Skool Bar
You’ll find throes of regulars here at Old Skool Bar, and for good reason. The bar drips in old school charm and vintage vibes. It’s a cosy spot to gather for a drink and some music. It even serves up nostalgic snacks like iced gem biscuits. You have the option of beer towers, buckets of Heineken or Guinness, or milky soju towers to quench your thirst.
Old Skool Bar, #02-16, Orchard Plaza, 150 Orchard Road, Singapore 238841
4. The Tuckshop Assembly
The story begins when five local residents met and discovered their common desire to open a bar. But not a typical bar. They wanted to create a social space that serves the community. And thus, The Tuckshop Assembly was born. The space is clean and minimalist but serves up some bomb deals. There are all-day happy hour deals for house pours, wines, and beers on selected days. And don’t get us started on the nibbles here. $12 for truffle fries, crispy pork belly, or bacon and cheese ravioli? We know where we’re going for team drinks.
The Tuckshop Assembly, 403 Guillemard Road, Singapore 399795
5. Baden Restaurant & Pub
This long-standing Bavarian style pub is tucked away in Holland Village. Expect offers and promos galore that’ll keep your wallet light and your tummy happy. There are even happy hour promotions for mains here! If you ever find yourself craving German food, this is definitely a spot you have to visit. Bring the gang along with you and take on the Baden Feast that comes with assorted sausages, wings, potatoes, and sauerkraut. The jewel on top is the fried pork knuckle which is crispy and juicy.
Baden Restaurant & Pub, 42 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277696
6. Hippies Bar & Grill
Beer, check. Sports, check. Great food, check. That’s everything you need for a night to unwind. Beers on tap here go for under $15 a pint. Choose from Stella Artois, Heineken, Guinness, or even Little Creature Pale Ale. Get skewers to share or order yourself a main to fill yourself up. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for somewhere to just chill and have a conversation. Top it off with friendly staff and you’ll have a relaxing night.
Hippies Bar & Grill, 391 Guillemard Road, Singapore 399789
7. Lazy Lizard
Pop by Lazy Lizard on weekday evenings and you’ll find it packed with throngs of regulars. Besides serving up great grub like burgers, pizzas, and pasta, there’s an array of drinks. Imbibe to your heart’s content with beers, spirits, and even wines. And if you feel like going alcohol-free for the night, why not go for the Lazy Lizard specials? You’ve got mocktails, fruit smoothies, and even milkshakes to tide you through the night.
Lazy Lizard, 2 Sixth Avenue, Singapore 276470
8. Bojangles
Hit up this unassuming pub tucked away in Bukit Timah. The huge alfresco area is perfect for enjoying beer during a breezy night out with friends. For any sports fans that are looking for a new haunt, the bar even has television screens. Expect screenings of soccer and the like, especially during prime game season. Get your pints of Heineken or Guinness and kick back!
Bojangles, #01-16, Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 588179
9. Nectars and Vine
Nectars and Vine doesn’t offer very much in terms of aesthetics or decor. But short of swigging beers at a coffee shop, this hole-in-the-wall dive bar is where you’ll find the cheapest beers in Serangoon. It may not be much, but with the selection of beers and ciders at your disposal, there’s something for everyone.
Nectars and Vine, Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre, 752 Upper Serangoon Road, Singapore 534623
10. The Cider Pit
Owned and operated by East of Avalon Wines aka one of Singapore’s oldest craft beer and cider wholesalers, you know you’ll get a good deal here. From Brothers to Old Speckled Hen, you’ll find something to quench your thirst. Pair it off with fried goodies like classic fish and chips, or grilled sandwiches and that’s your night sorted.
The Cider Pit, 328 Joo Chiat Road, Singapore 427585
11. Coq & Balls
This cheekily-named bar sports a raw, gritty interior. It offers a vast variety of spirits, wines, and beers that’ll cater to all palates. We totally dig their Kung Fu-themed cocktails, with names like Chuck Norris and Enter the Dragon. You can also find full pints of Kronenbourg Blan for $12, and Asahi Super Dry and Connor’s Stout for only $12 during their happy hour.
Coq & Balls, Kai Fook Mansion, 6 Kim Tian Road, Singapore 169246
