We dust off the science books and dive into DNA Fit. Find out how to train and eat smarter with results from a simple swab
Wondering where to keep fit in Hong Kong? The city is full of fitness crazes, so why not throw a punch at these boxing gyms, try a detox with Genie Juicery or learn pole dancing in Hong Kong? It’s always important to train smart when working towards your goal; whether that be losing weight, building muscle or looking trim for junk season. I explored DNA Fit in Hong Kong to find out all the science behind my body.
What is DNA Fit?
DNA Fit falls into the Circle DNA family and is tailored to your body, taking cutting edge genetic science straight out of the lab and into your hands. We arrived at DNA Fit headquarters (Hollywood Rd) ready to give blood, run on a treadmill and lift weights, but rather surprisingly all it takes is just a cheeky saliva swab. From there, you’ll receive a detailed report ( roughly 10-14 days) into how your DNA influences your body’s response to diet, nutrition and fitness. As well as a free phone consultation with fitness gurus on your next step for training or nutrition.
We loved the convenience of having professional support and information (there’s a lot of it) that does its best to simplify the biology side of things. Finding out which type of training is optimal for your genetics or learning your tolerance to carbohydrates, lactose and fats is great because you’re able to choose a diet that matches your needs, rather than just guessing, which if you’re like me – you’ve done plenty of and wondered why you’ve seen no results.
I actually play rugby professionally, so getting my results was super helpful in helping me hone specific areas of my training and diet. Here’s what I learned:
- I am extremely lactose intolerant – my poor girlfriend can attest to that
- My sensitivity to salt means that a Mediterranean diet suits me
- With a high vo2 max, I’m surprisingly better suited to endurance activities
- The free consultation is full of useful advice that get the most out of your report
- Lowering injury risk by allocating time at the end of each session to stretch will help reduce the likelihood of any niggles, especially since I’ve got a medium tolerance
