Whatever your workout of choice, these private gym pods in Singapore will let you exercise like no one’s watching (‘cos they’re not).
Crowded gyms putting you off your fitness routine? Too afraid to set foot inside a gym? Forget waiting around for equipment or feeling self-conscious on the gym floor. These gym pods in Singapore invite you in for a private workout sesh, with no eyes on you except your own. (Psst: they’re also ideal for freelance personal trainers looking to rent a gym space.)
I’ve personally been to a few and can attest to the convenience and sense of freedom a solo workout offers. I won’t be swearing off regular gyms or group fitness classes anytime soon, but there’s something different about a gym sesh where I have full control over my circuit – no need to wait around for equipment to be available!
Best private gym pods in Singapore
1. The Gym Pod
The Gym Pod was the first private gym in Singapore I tried, and I love it for the convenience it offers. With an impressive list of locations, I’ve booked many a last-minute sweat sesh at one of its compact yellow spaces. Want in? Simply download the app and browse its list of pods, including a handy lineup of equipment each pod contains (most of them have a treadmill, a power rack, a cable pulley, a chin-up bar, a bench, free weights, dumbbells and other essentials). Access is easy, too. Share your Covid vaccination status before your first session, check in with the TraceTogether app and click the ‘Open Door’ button on the app to unlock the door.
Larger pods like the Grit Pod allow up to six pax if you wanna bring your crew, while most others are suitable for a workout party of one to two. The Flow Pod is also available for barre, yoga, bodypump and other workout classes if iron-pumping isn’t up your street. These are virtual classes conducted through videos, so you’ll still have the privacy of a solo workout!
The Gym Pod, download the app on Apple or Android; from $9 for 30 mins (from $7.50 for off-peak hours); multiple locations including East Coast Park and The Cathay
2. My Gym Lab
My Gym Lab offers some of the newest gym pods in Singapore, having just opened its first three outlets at Siglap Centre, Beauty World Centre and Roxy Square. I visited it at Beauty World and was impressed by how spacious it is. If you think a workout in a gym pod is a stuffy affair, this one proves you wrong. Exercise equipment like the Technogym bike, Smith machine, pull-up bar and more are well-spaced out, with enough room to comfortably lay out a yoga mat for a cool-down stretch.
I love that the gym is equipped with a body composition analyser to help track health stats like body fat percentage and muscle mass. (No worries if you’ve never used one before, as the machine comes with simple instructions.) For workout inspo, the app also provides tutorial videos from HIIT to strength training for an easy-to-follow routine.
Other conveniences in this private gym space include free Wi-Fi, a bluetooth speaker, a phone charger and a tripod stand. To enter, follow the steps on the app to share your vaccination status, check in via TraceTogether and unlock the space with the ‘Open Door’ button.
My Gym Lab, download the app on Apple or Android; from $9 for 30 mins; multiple locations including Siglap Centre, Beauty World Centre and Roxy Square
3. Peak Training Lab
Okay, this isn’t exactly a pod but it’s a private gym option located around Bugis. Peak Training Lab is a personal training gym that has PT, physiotherapy and pay-per-use rates. For a private workout, you can rent the space for 60 to 90 minutes to have all the equipment to yourself. Or, do a private PT sesh with its expert coaches for professional guidance.
Peak Training Lab, book online; rent the space from $25 for 60 mins; #02-34, City Gate Mall, 371 Beach Road, Singapore 199597
