Grab the napkins, it’s going to get messy.
Oh, what’s that we hear? Our friendly neighbourhood Cali-Mex diner is back with a taco-filled vengeance and it’s right in the CBD. We got ahead of the lunch crowd to see what’s up and boy, were we in for a treat.
Taking a spot at Frasier Towers and just across Amoy Street Food Centre, Muchachos sports a swanky new look complete with neon light signs, cement table tops, white subway tiles and a cactus plant for that Mexican twist. Just the kind of spot we’d be at for an after-work hang.
It’s got a new look but don’t fret burrito aficionados, the Cali-Mex lineup of big-ass burritos, tacos and quesadillas are still mainstays of Muchachos. The folks have retained your favourites – yup, the cheat-day-worthy California burrito ($13.50) and carnitas quesadilla ($12) are very much present in the menu – along with new additions like the cheeseburger ($12 single, $16.50 double) and buttermilk fried chicken ($12- $16.50). (Update: the burgers are effing good!)
The burritos are just how we remembered – soft tortilla stuffed with juicy and tender meat, refried beans, cheese and fresh guac. Not to forget the cocktail of habanero, Sriracha and Tapatio hot sauces that spice lovers like us can’t live without. ¡Dios mío! We’ve hit burrito heaven again.
We couldn’t help but notice the 40 people-deep queue that was peaking within an hour of its opening. Looks like Amoy Street’s got a new go-to spot for everyone that loves a solid burrito – and a major food coma after.
Muchachos, 182 Cecil Street #01-01 Frasers Tower (facing Amoy Street Food Centre)
