Amoy Street Food Centre is a food paradise and we have proof! Hit up these stalls if you need lunch inspo.
We adore the food scene at Telok Ayer, but while it’s chock full of quality bars and cafes, the obvious gem of the neighbourhood is Amoy Street Food Centre. This local food paradise houses some of the best hawker classics and new players on the scene. Where else can you find Michelin-approved stalls, mamak mee goreng, salmon rice bowls, and pasta plates under one roof? Pay attention, folks: we’re letting you in on the best stalls at this hawker centre.
All the top hawker stalls in Amoy Street Food Centre
1. The Little Red Hen
Those who love rice, raise your hands and shout it out loud! We found a humble stall in this bustling hawker centre selling nasi ulam, a herb-infused rice dish that takes plenty of time to prepare and cook. The result is *chef’s kiss*. There are four sets to choose from: beef rendang, ayam percik, udang kunyit, and ikan pepes. Each comes with oven-baked veggies, half a boiled egg, and homemade sambal. We’d eat this for lunch every day if we could!

2. Doris’s Devilishly Delicious Curry
We love an alliterative moment. But more than anything, we appreciate what this culinary spot is doing in sharing Portuguese Eurasian delicacies with the masses. Devil’s curry is a hot favourite known for its flavoursome stew, which gets its colour and taste from loads of chillies. As the name implies, be prepared to get your tongue burned – bottled water at the ready! The new stall promises more dishes to its menu eventually, so keep a lookout on its socials for the announcement.

3. J2 Famous Crispy Curry Puff
What’s a good nosh for tea time? The only acceptable answer is curry puff (sorry, we don’t make the rules). This Michelin-approved stall takes the cake… er, we mean puff, when it comes to the beloved street food. The thin, flaky pastry hides spiced curry filling that packs a punch. As Dua Lipa once said, “One taste is all it takes to fall in love with it.” How about an unexpected combo you never thought would work? The crispy yam puff gets a thumbs-up from many patrons.

4. Sarawak Kolo Mee by Jin’s Noodle
It’s not uncommon for hawker stalls to open for a short period of time daily. But if it’s a spot as popular as this, you know you gotta fight tooth and nail to be in the queue the moment its shutter goes up. Here’s where you can savour Sarawak’s highly-regarded noodle dish, which is tossed in lard and chilli before being topped with minced meat and char siew. That’s heaven in a bowl right there.

5. Rayyan’s Waroeng Upnormal
When it comes to ayam penyet, one of the most recommended places is this stall in Amoy Street Food Centre. You can expect all the good stuff here: from golden fried smashed chicken, to sambal that hits the back of your throat like Michelle Yeoh’s kicks, to fluffy rice topped with spiced grated coconut. If you ask us, Rayyan’s is that stall that has our hearts.

6. Pepper Bowl
Everyone thinks meals in the CBD cost an arm and a leg. While that may be true sometimes, this humble eatery will change your mind. Try its signature bowls, which include spring onion beef rice and black pepper hor fun. Add more meat or an onsen egg if you’re loading up on proteins. Your wallet (and stomach) will thank you after your meal.

7. Coffee Break
If we could intravenously feed caffeine into our bodies, we would do that. But we can’t, so the next best thing is to get it from a stall daily. While it may not be the cheapest in the building, Coffee Break is our favourite spot for that local iced kopi with a twist. Think sea salt caramel kopi peng or masala chai latte peng. Cool flavours like Earl Grey and matcha coconut make an appearance too. Don’t forget to order its fancy version of coffee shop kaya toast to accompany your drink. Who says Amoy is only interesting at lunch hour?

8. Big Bowls Project
This halal-certified stall and its Japanese rice bowls join the other established stalls in Amoy Street Food Centre. Big Bowls has four signature options: mentaiko salmon, Szechuan black bean salmon, truffle oil salmon, and its own homemade recipe. Every bowl comes with cucumbers, sliced cherry tomatoes, and an onsen egg. If you’re avoiding carbs, simply swap the rice with salad greens.

9. Han Kee Fish Soup
If you’ve only got a few minutes to spare for lunch, we suggest looking elsewhere because this stall comes with a queue. But if you can wait 15 minutes for a steaming bowl of fresh, thick fish slices swimming in a clear, nourishing broth, it’s absolutely worth it. Tip: the auntie taking orders is super efficient, so be ready with what you want before your turn comes!

10. A Noodle Story
Ramen lovers need to head to this stall. This Michelin Bib Gourmand’s local spin on the Japanese staple is one of the more exciting dishes served at this food centre. The young hawkers at the helm serve up springy, umami-laden noodles topped with sinful pork belly cha shu, a crispy potato-wrapped prawn, juicy wantons and a hot spring egg. We’re getting hungry just thinking about food!

Here’s another stall with lines that can go on for days. Save Ah Ter’s Teochew Fishball Noodles for a long lunch day. But know that at the end of the queue, you’ll be rewarded with a simple but delicious bowl of soft, plump fishballs, minced pork, a spicy gravy, and springy noodles. It also sells piping hot fishball soup, which is perfect for gloomy weather days.

13. Chef B Western Delight
Want some comfort food after a long week? Head to Chef B for generous servings of creamy pasta (or tomato-based options) that come with a side of fried goodies. The beauty of the stall is that it allows you to customise your meal. We usually go for carbonara with penne pasta: imagine a thick, buttery base stirred with sliced bacon, runny eggs, and a side of breaded fried chicken. Go big or go home, yo!
