Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops
Glow Recipe’s latest addition to its watermelon range is touted as a highlighter serum (the first of its kind!). Said to be a skincare and makeup hybrid, this can be used as a primer, mixed in with foundation, used on the eyes, over makeup or layered under a powder highlight. Personally, the primer and foundation mixing route worked best for me, providing an all-over glow when worn without much powder. I’d say to be cautious with using it for the ‘wet’ eye look if you have oily lids, and beware of possible clumping when paired with power highlights. As a skincare product, this holds its own on my vanity as a hydrating serum that layers well with most other skincare products. It also feels a tad thicker and more moisturising than the average serum – which this innovative new product isn’t, of course. And did I mention that it comes in an iridescent bottle? *Heart eyes*

Timeless Hydra and Splendore ampoules
A popular new skincare product, ampoules are all the rage right now, and for good reason. These are basically supercharged serums which you use to perk your skin up within a short span of time, hence the nifty vials they come in. From the local brand, Timeless, I’ve been enjoying the Hydra ampoule for hydration and the Splendore ampoule for a boost of radiance. The consistency of these ampoules are thicker than the average serum (probably because they have sclerotium gum listed in the ingredients), but they absorb into the skin in a jiffy. I appreciate how these ampoules sit really well beneath whatever moisturiser or oil I apply on top, too.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence
It’s been a cult favourite for the longest time and with good reason. The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence has over 90% Pitera. It’s a natural bio-ingredient with more than 50 micro-nutrients to improve your skin’s natural functions. What I like about the essence is its non-sticky formula. Pat it on generously (don’t forget the neck!) and it absorbs right away. In fact, Pitera mimics skin, so that’s why your skin locks in all the goodness faster than water. I find that my parched skin is revitalised, looking all glowy and hydrated. Who needs a highlighter when you’re on your way to crystal clear skin, am I right? Use it day and night (after toner and before serum) and watch your complexion transform. They don’t call it miracle water for nothing!
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, from $108 for 75ml, available at Metro, Tangs, Sephora and Lazada

Ange Gardien Paris Naturale Glow Cushion Foundation SPF50 & Pressed Powder Compact
I love the formula of this foundation, which makes me all the more gutted about the shade range. With only three very similar shades, this is unfortunately reserved for the pale-skinned. I use the darkest shade with bronzer on top, following a good ol’ exfoliation sesh because the formula does tend to cling on to dry patches a little. If the brand can cater to more varied skin tones, I reckon this would be my fave given how convenient it is. I appreciate how it’s a two in one with a silky smooth setting powder, which I love using with other base products as well. Bonus points for the sponge that works incredibly well with the powder. Unlike many other applicators that come in products, this didn’t get chucked to the corner of my drawer, which is no mean feat.

Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask
Here’s one for fans of multitasking products: this vitamin E mask is more than just a regular rinse-off mask, it can be used as an overnight mask or a moisturiser too. The combination of vitamin E, niacinamide and adenosine helps to plump up my skin and keep it looking radiant. Plus, it’s great for the busy (or lazy), who can’t be bothered with masks that need to be rinsed off after we’ve already settled into bed. I typically use this as an overnight mask that I can comfortably fall asleep with, or as a light moisturiser in the day. I first tried this mask when I received a sample from another purchase, and I’m on my second tub of this stuff now – it’s a wonder why I haven’t raved about it before.

Starskin Orglamic Pink Cactus Velvet Eye Cream
This silky cream has a velvety texture and a touch of floral sweetness with its subtle scent. It absorbs well and keeps my eye area nourished with certified organic avocado oil, shea butter and candelilla wax. It’s a fuss-free eye cream that works well in the day and night. P.S. A little goes a long way.

Yours Sunny Side Up Sunscreen Mist
I’m pretty serious when it comes to sunscreen but sometimes, it’s just too greasy or even emits a nasty white cast on my face. So when Yours launched this handy sunscreen mist, I was doing a mini victory dance. This water-based broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen is light, absorbs right into my face and – wait for it – leaves no white cast behind. I like to spritz on the sunscreen (as you should) throughout the day.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Toner and Pink Juice Moisturiser
You’ve (probably) seen the Instagram posts of these aesthetically-pleasing glass bottles, and I can confirm that their contents are pretty good too. My skin’s been enjoying this duo, starting with the PHA+BHA toner right after cleansing. It contains exfoliating acids but doesn’t sting or dry out the skin. So if you’re in the market for a comfortable chemical exfoliator, this is one to check out. I like using it with the lightweight moisturiser that has a cooling, gel-like texture. Brownie points for the refreshing and delightfully subtle watermelon scent of this range!
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Toner, $52 for 150ml; Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser, $60 for 60ml, available at Sephora online and in stores

Herb Farm Skin Defend Mist
Now that we spend most of our day behind a mask, spritzing a refreshing face mist is a great quick fix. I keep this skin defend mist by my desk as it does just that – defend the skin against environmental pollutants and skin stressors. I also love the herbaceous scent that comes with each spritz, all packed with 100% ingredients. My only gripe is the sprayer itself. It doesn’t give off an even spray and I’m left with water droplets instead of an all-round mist.
Herb Farm Skin Defend Mist, $34.90, available online

Just Herbs Kimsukadi Tail Glow Boosting Facial Oil
Say aye if you love a facial oil that absorbs almost immediately. My acne-prone tends to be a little cranky when I smear anything that’s greasier than usual. But I’m selfish and love the benefits of a facial oil. After a long time, I found something that fits the bill. Made with 17 ayurvedic ingredients including kimsukadi tail, the feisty bottle helps fade pigmentation, dark spots and blemishes. Perfect for all the post-acne scars. Fair warning: The smell isn’t the best and does need some time getting used to. Best to use during your nighttime routine. Perks! Use the promo code HONEYCOMBERS to enjoy 10% off on Soul Earth’s skincare and sustainable fashion collection.

Luxe Botanics Kigelia Corrective Moisturiser
For my maskne-prone skin, I’ve been using Luxe Botanics’ Kigelia Corrective Moisturiser for daily hydration. The range is formulated to gently soothe and promote cell regeneration with kigelia fruit extract and natural peptides. Unlike most gel moisturisers that are oil-free, there are essential oils in this tube that give your skin a boost, and these make the moisturiser feel more hydrating than most gels I’ve used. If you’re curious to try but not keen to commit to the full-sized version, give the deluxe minis a go. Plus, Luxe Botanics gives back too: For every order for the rest of 2020, the brand gives the community in New Canaan Village, Kenya 10 days of access to healthcare!

MAC Cosmetics Lip Scrubtious
Wow was I surprised with the after-effects of this lip scrub. This sugar-based lip scrub is equal parts exfoliating and moisturising so there’s no need to go in with a lip balm after. The velvety and slightly gritty texture is gentle on the lips yet buffs away any dry skin. Plus, I love the fruity flavour. Hello supple lips!
MAC Cosmetics Lip Scrubtious, $33, available online via Sephora and Lazada, and at MAC Cosmetics stores

Kansoskin Simply Better Barrier
We love a good backstory that comes with our skincare. Case in point – Kansoskin. The sibling duo behind the local brand have had a firsthand experience with chronic eczema, hence the conception of the Simply Better Barrier. Packed with antioxidants, hydrating Asian botanicals and Adenosine (an ingredient with healing properties), the moisturiser is great for dry and sensitive skin. I apply this to my U-zone and even to dry areas around my body and I’m impressed with the results. No more flaky skin, and the texture is surprisingly non-greasy despite its label as a deep hydrating cream.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream + Confidence in Your Beauty Sleep Night Cream
Thanks to this skincare duo from IT Cosmetics, my skin has been feeling supple and healthy. Confidence in a Cream is my go-to morning moisturiser when I want a nourishing boost. It’s not an understatement to say that this tub is packed with all the good stuff: Star ingredients include collagen, hyaluronic acid, niacin, peptides and a super ceramide complex.
Before hitting the pillow, I slather on the Confidence in Your Beauty Sleep Night Cream. I love how it sinks into the skin (just give it a few minutes) and doesn’t get onto my covers. Plus, the subtle fragrance of lavender is a pleasing surprise. Infused with hyaluronic acid and ceramides, this cream works its magic while I sleep. Even a full night of sleeping in an airconditioned room doesn’t strip my skin of moisture with this on!

Sigi Skin Tea-Tox Sheet Mask
Local beauty sweetheart Sigi Skin does it again with a new launch – the Tea-Tox Sheet Mask. Thanks to its high thread count and microfiber material, it almost feels like a silk cloth hugging my face. But what surprised me was the after-effect. It’s probably the most moisturising sheet mask I’ve ever used. Unlike others, the mask doesn’t dry up on your face. In fact, when I removed it after a good 25 minutes, it felt as if I’d applied a thin layer of moisturiser. Major love!
The mask contains a blend of five potent heroes including 20% lactobacillus ferment, a probiotic that stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation and defends the skin against pollution. It also has vitamin-packed kombucha that guards the skin against UV damage, free radicals and air pollutants. Oh, and did we mention each pack has 27ml worth of liquid? You bet I slathered it all over my arms and body.

Everyday Humans Resting Beach Face Sunscreen Serum
Everyday Human’s Resting Beach Face is an SPF 30 serum that has taken me to the beach and beyond. If you find it a hassle to slather sunscreen on top of your skincare routine, you’ll love this too! This fast-absorbing serum gives sun protection and hydration benefits all in one, sans the white cast. It also boasts antioxidants from spinach and green tea – that’s suncare and skincare all in one bottle! The brand gets bonus points for being eco-friendly and cruelty-free, too. This serum will be a regular repurchase of mine, for sure.

Huxley Cream; Fresh and More
I always have a soft spot for K-beauty brands ‘cos they’re gentle on even the most sensitive of skins. After ditching my morning skincare routine (thanks to WFH) for months, I’ve decided to jump right back in with the Huxley Cream; Fresh and More. It’s made up of skin-loving ingredients like cactus extract (a magnet for moisture), prickly pear seed oil (crammed with vitamin E) and birch sap (increases the production of new skin cells). In terms of consistency, it’s a blend of a gel and cream – keeping the properties of a heavy-duty moisturiser while being lightweight at the same time. Oh, extra points for its floral fragrance, too.

Skinnies Sungel SPF30
If you’re looking for sunscreen that doesn’t emit a white cast or you just want to avoid the hassle of reapplication throughout the day, this is your answer. Skinnies Sungel uses a magic ingredient called organogel – a type of protection that sits right on top of the skin, holding UV actives in place. Also, this waterless sunscreen does not evaporate all day.
Thanks to its thick consistency, a little goes a long way. After smearing on a pea size blob as the last step of my skincare routine, I’m ready for my day (whether it’s indoors or out). It does sit a little on the greasier side for me but it’s perfect if you desire glowing skin.
Skinnies Sungel SPF30, $34.99 for 100ml, available online

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Energizing Lotion with Grapefruit and Pomegranate
Aveeno has elevated its body lotion with a grapefruit and pomegranate extract, and it smells sooo good. Think fresh and sweet with a hint of energising citrus from the grapefruit. It’s a non-greasy lotion for everyday use, with shea butter that keeps my skin happy and hydrated throughout the day. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed starting my day with this lotion lately!
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Energizing Lotion with Grapefruit and Pomegranate, $23.90 for 354ml, available at Guardian, Watsons and online

Malika Argan Oil
Malika’s argan oil is 100% pure (no sulfates, parabens or synthetic fragrances) and cold pressed so all the nutrients are packed inside this chic bottle. I’ve been using this multi-tasker on my face, hair and nails (if I remember) for a little over a month. Though I haven’t noticed much difference in my acne scars yet, I’m loving how the oil gives a dewy finish and adds life to my dull face. And I’m sure my skin is loving the vitamin E and antioxidant-packed face oil. As for my hair? One pump is all it needs to fight the frizz and bring on the shine.

Liht Organics Color Intense Liquid Lipstick
I was excited to try the Color Intense Liquid Lipstick from this popular organic beauty brand. It functions more like a lip tint than the name suggests. It doesn’t set in the long-lasting way that a typical liquid lippie does, though it deserves points for being vegan and aluminium-free. The colour sheers out by a few notches once it’s spread on the lips, retaining a decent (but not opaque) colour payoff. I appreciate how hydrating and comfortable this feels on the lips – you can wear this all day (touch-ups needed) without any dryness. I’d recommend picking a darker shade if you want more pigmentation!

Glowfully Charcoal Beads Gel Cleanser
I’m a sucker for a darn good facial cleanser so I’m always up for trying something new. This geranium-scented gel cleanser by local brand Glowfully is so gentle on the skin (no tightness or stripping off moisture). But it’s also strong enough to buff away impurities. I like the slight exfoliation of the charcoal beads until it disintegrates into a formula that unclogs pores.

Dove Cloud Foam Body Wash
I love this foaming body wash for delivering what it says on the bottle. The Peach Cloud Foam smells exactly like sweet peaches, while the Sakura Cloud Foam leaves my shower with a lovely sakura fragrance. That aside, this body wash has a light, fluffy texture and cleanses without stripping my skin of moisture.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
Ooh, I was pumped for this launch! Like everyone else, the pretty millennial-tinted packaging drew me in. FYI: This K-beauty inspired clean and cruelty-free skincare line is powered by fruits and is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalate. Already scoring major points in my books. First of all, I’m obsessed with the gooey texture of this mask. You almost want to sink your face right into the jar. Next, the ingredients. Amino-rich watermelon extract and hyaluronic for intense hydration and to mitigate skin ageing? Check. Antioxidant-rich pumpkin extract and AHAs to repair skin during snooze time? Check.
I almost want to give it full marks but I have an itsy-bitsy bone to pick. Even though the gel-like product sunk right in, I wasn’t too thrilled about walking up to debris on my face and pillow cover. Do I continue using it as a sleeping mask or switch it to a wash-off mask instead? Choices, choices.

Caring Skin Acne Clear Hydrating Cleanser
I’ve had it up to here with my uninvited acne attendees and they don’t seem to be going away – until I added this cleanser to my skincare routine. Heavy-duty ingredients such as glycolic, salicylic and lactic reduce the appearance of acne and unclog pores, while botanicals like aloe vera and watercress extract, plus natural enzymes from papaya and pineapple soothe the skin and eradicate dead skin cells. Some may not be accustomed to the strong scent but I have no qualms with it. The cleanser is also non-stripping – great for those with dry or sensitive skin. I wouldn’t say that my acne has disappeared completely but at least I’ve got it under control.
Caring Skin Acne Clear Hydrating Cleanser, $48 for 100ml, available online
Est. Lab Optimalift A+ Eye Contour Mask
Serious screen time during work hours; leisure screen time after work hours – my eyes can’t catch a break. I could almost hear my peepers singing sighs of relief as I slapped this on. I love how this cooling one-piece gel mask covers the full eye contour area – that means no sneaky peeks at the phone during mask time. The active Mediterranean bacillus ferment ingredient is known to tackle multiple concerns at once so don’t be surprised to see smoother wrinkles and less puffiness or dark circles. The newly-formulated eye mask also contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, which we all know have powerful hydrating and anti-ageing muscles. Tip: Pop the mask in the fridge for the ultimate wake up call.
Est. Lab Optimalift A+ Eye Contour Mask, $96 (6 sheets/box), available online
Hanz De Fuko Quicksand
This dry shampoo and hair wax hybrid is absolutely versatile and great for dry or wet hair. Despite a gritty formula, the product gets into every strand so nothing is left behind. It also lifts the hair well with a natural, medium hold – great for easy restyling. The gritty formula we talked about? It’s actually a soft granular rock just like pumice, which absorbs excess oil on the hair and scalp. Here’s to gravity-defying beachy hair!
Hanz De Fuko Quicksand, from $30, available via Deckout, The Panic Room and Sephora
Argabody Argan Body Scrub
I never knew how much I should exfoliate my body until I started using this scrub. This trusty bad boy gives all the good stuff. Organic ground coffee and epsom salt take on the role of a natural exfoliator, gently buffing away dead skin cells and preventing breakouts in return. There’s also citrus sinensis oil for an antioxidant boost and aromatherapy. Finally, the vitamin E-rich argan oil balances sebum production and moisturises the skin. I walked out of the shower with fewer bumps (goodbye, backne!) and glowing skin.
Argabody Argan Body Scrub, $19.50, available online
Bio-essence Bio-Bird’s Nest Collagen Mask
Working from home means slapping on a face mask any time of the day – and I’m loving it. This sheet mask boasts a winning formula of bird’s nest extract (locks in moisture and skin elasticity), hydrolyzed collagen (nourishes the skin), whitening peptides (corrects dull skin) and a Bio-Energy Complex to repair, renew and replenish my tired skin. TL;DR: After a good 15 to 20 minutes, the sheet was almost dry – a testament to how well my skin soaked up the serum. The mask promises supple skin and I have to say, it delivers. As always, I slathered the excess serum on dry areas, my neck and decolletage.
Bio-essence Bio-Bird’s Nest Collagen Mask, $18.90 (10pcs/box), available via C K Department Store, Guardian, NTUC Fairprice, OG, Robinsons, Watsons and online
Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water
I’ve had my doubts about DE’s other multi-tasking makeup remover and cleanser (wasn’t thrilled with the oily sheen that the Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser leaves behind). Nonetheless, the words ‘micellar cleanser’ and ‘no rinsing required’ drew me in for this. I soaked a cotton pad with the ‘milki’ formula, held it over made-up areas for a few seconds and removed everything with ease. But most importantly, there was no icky oiliness nor did it strip away moisture. Will definitely pop this into my gym or beach bag for a quick pick-me-up. I’m loving this product so far but at $40 for just 200ml in a bottle, I’d use it sparingly.
Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water, $40, available via Sephora

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Hydrating Mask with Apricot & b Swiss Glacier Water
Origins has a range of good-for-skin masks and I’ve been loving this apricot one lately. It’s like a fruity drink of water for parched skin! I really like how fuss-free it is, too. Just spread it on and tissue it off after 10 minutes, no wash needed. It has the texture of a creamy moisturiser, but because it’s water-based, it doesn’t feel oily or heavy. Aside from leaving my skin hydrated and happy, I also love the brand for formulating clean products without parabens, SLS and other ingredients that are potentially harmful to the skin.

IDS Skincare Rejuvenating Complex
I was skeptical when I read the product label. I wondered if this anti-ageing cream was too potent for my skin. I was wrong. It’s never too late to start on anti-ageing products and I was reaping all the benefits from this baby. Concocted with ingredients like zinc and magnesium chloride, this lightweight cream is known to boost collagen and elastin production, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. I’m not sure about the latter yet, but my face feels fresh and rejuvenated. It also combats environmental and sun damage, which is a great product to use now more than ever.

Re:Erth Illuminating Concentrate spot lightening serum
I’ve been a fan of local skincare brand, Re:Erth, so I was thrilled to try the new spot lightening serum when it launched. First things first, when using spot treatments, you gotta be patient and trust the process as it takes time to yield results. I’ve been using the product for close to two months and I see a significant improvement on my dark spots and hyperpigmentation around the sides of my face.
It’s probably due to the blend of Monkey Jack heartwood, cherry blossom and Japanese spring turmeric extract that works hard to combat all sorts of spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone; as well as promotes collagen for plump, radiant skin. I also like that it absorbs well into my skin and can be used around the eyes. Of course, there are stubborn scars that won’t budge but let’s see how far this product will go.

Liht Organics Youth Elixir Liquid Foundation
This is a light coverage yet relatively long-lasting foundation – great for a minimal makeup look, good skin days, and makeup newbies who are wary of caking on too much foundation all at once. For a more flawless finish, I’d build it up or add some concealer. It’s surprisingly good at controlling shine: I used it without a powder and it lasted longer than I expected. Plus, the brand gets brownie points for making products that are organic and cruelty-free.

Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream
Anyone else get this weird satisfaction when their face is glistening with skincare after their nighttime routine? Me too. This moisturiser from Sunday Riley does just that – but takes it too far with the greasiness. I’m still on the fence about this as it’s way too greasy for day time use. But at night, all you’ll need is a thin layer of product to let hydration heroes such as ceramides, vitamin F, beetroot extract, red algae extract and pomegranate sterols do the work. Reviews are also a mixed bag – some are not thrilled with the smell but honestly, I quite like it. I suggest sampling the product before purchasing the full size – this is going to take forever to finish.

Rovectin Skin Essentials Barrier Repair Cream Concentrate
My skin can be pretty fussy, and I’m glad to report that this moisturiser works well regardless of what condition my skin is in. Whether I’m dealing with a bout of breakouts, trying to control oiliness or flaky patches, I know I can turn to this non-irritating moisturiser to hydrate my skin comfortably. Better yet, this is fully vegan, made with clean and natural ingredients. I reckon this would work for all skin types.

Liht Dusk to Dawn Liquid Liner
Expect great pigmentation and staying power with this black liquid liner. It lives up to its smudge proof claims, though it can flake a little by the end of the day. The packaging is a tad less handbag-friendly compared to your typical liquid liner pen, but I like the grip that the sturdier packaging provides. Together with the stiff brush tip, it makes it easier to get the perfect wing. Psst: 5% of proceeds from each sale goes to the Marine Conservation Institute to support efforts to protect ocean ecosystems!

Jung Beauty 2 Step Steaming Hair Spa
Korean beauty emporium Ksisters has launched its first in-house brand called Jung Beauty. And first up in its collection is the 2 Step Steaming Hair Spa, a hair mask that recreates a salon experience at home. Formulated with coconut oil, keratin, silk amino acids and gold, this rose-scented mask is great for damaged, dry, chemically-treated and frizzy hair. Each pack comes with a mask cap (step one) and a leave-in keratin treatment (step two). Best to do this in the shower as you gotta use the mask cap on shampooed hair. Wait for 15 to 20 minutes as you let the steaming effect open up your hair cuticles so the product is absorbed into your mane. Tip: Avoid your ears as it gets a little hot. After washing, follow up with the leave-in treatment. They’re pretty generous with the product – there was more than enough for my extra-long hair. The result? Silky, shiny and smooth hair guaranteed!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner
Thought I’d add a touch of glitter to my makeup look to celebrate the second phase of post-CB. I picked this nifty gel liner in Mari (Gold) ‘cos it’s so darn easy to use. Crabtree & Evelyn Stars In The Room Mist
If you’re obsessed with candles, room mists are your next best friend. Part of my bedtime ritual is spritzing this In The Room mist from Crabtree & Evelyn and it’s off to La La Land. I’ll admit it does have an acquired smell but if you’re all for woody, sandalwood and musky notes, this is a winner.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder
This all-over powder is light and easy-to-use, keeping my skin from being oily while still allowing it to look dewy. It’s also buildable for a long-lasting matte finish. I like that it smoothes over pores and imperfections, making my skin look better than it actually is. There are also collagen, antioxidants and peptides in the ingredients list for anti-ageing benefits. I do wish it came in a range of shades because even though it is a translucent powder, it definitely looks quite pale and might not be suitable for darker skin.

Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask
Had a sample size sitting in my stash so I decided to try this viral and Instagram-fave porefining face mask from Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay. As we all know, clay masks are great for oily skin, and this is no different. Tightened pores were visible and it left my face feeling refreshed and squeaky clean. Even though it was a little drying around the U zone area, I was surprised that it was really easy to wash off.

This Works Love Sleep Pillow Spray
Ever since I started working from home, I have been trying to get enough zzzs to have a sense of normalcy. I was thrilled to try another sleep-inducing spray by This Works as I am a huge fan of its lavender counterpart (Deep Sleep Pillow Spray). It promises to help you “disconnect from your day and reconnect with your partner at bedtime” – basically preparing you for intimate moments and I am not talking about pillow talk. Made with a blend of ylang ylang and patchouli essential oils, the scent helps you to relax but also sort of makes you more self-aware. If you’re chasing Mr Right, I mean sleep, I’d still go for the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray as you get a heady lavender sucker punch that knocks you out.

IDS Skincare C-Plus Serum
Vitamin C serum is a staple in my skincare routine so you can imagine how excited I was about trying this product. I’ve been using local skincare brand IDS Skincare’s C-plus serum for a good five weeks; my acne scar marks are fading and my skin is feeling plump. Probably thanks to antioxidant, anti-ageing and vitamin C and E derivatives such as – brace yourself, it’s a mouthful – trisodium ascorbyl palmitate phosphate, tocopheryl phosphate sodium and fullerenes. I also like the thin consistency of the formula; it almost feels like an essence.

Clarins Bright Plus Cushion Foundation
I like this compact for minimal makeup days as it has a dewy, light coverage and a whole lotta SPF (50, to be exact). I was pleasantly surprised by the finish: It’s not sticky or oily, and I feel comfortable wearing this without any powder at all! It’s not completely transfer-resistant, but it’s definitely more so than the usual cushion compact. Do note that this does seem to cling on to dry spots and flaky skin, so if you have those issues, this might not be for you. And fingers crossed that they release more shades – with only four on the Singapore site, it isn’t the most comprehensive selection.
Clarins Bright Plus Cushion Foundation, $65 for 13ml, available online and in stores.

Canvas Beauty Cucumber Soothing Mist
The afternoon slump can hit you anytime – even if you’re working from home. Whenever I find myself feeling out of it, a spritz of this alcohol-free mist from Canvas Beauty keeps me on track. The pick-me-up is almost instant, thanks to soothing cucumber fruit water and a dose of gluconolactone (it improves and regenerates complexion).
Canvas Beauty Cucumber Soothing Mist, $49 for 100ml, available online.

Burberry Velvet Lip
These liquid lippies are wonderfully opaque whether you snag a nude or vibrant shade – I’m speaking from experience as I have both. I’ve been reaching for the violet one (no.45 Brilliant Violet) when I need a little colour to brighten up my day. Expect a slightly deeper violet than it looks in the promotional picture (right), but a gorgeous shade nonetheless. It’s a long-lasting pop of colour, which meets my expectations of a liquid lip product. This gets a thumbs up for wearing comfortably throughout the day even without a lip balm underneath! That said, my lips aren’t that dry lately, so if yours are, definitely slap on some lip balm before applying.
Burberry Velvet Lip, $46, available online and in stores.

Shiseido Professional Sublimic Wonder Shield
Missing those hair treatments? Mimic the I-just-came-out-of-the-salon experience with Shiseido Professional’s Sublimic Wonder Shield. This hair mist blocks out all nasty pollutants and the effects of heat from hair styling tools, humidity (urgh, it’s been terrible, hasn’t it?) and frizz. I’ve used it with and without my hairdryer, and even though there are still some stubborn flyaways, my hair appears to be less frizzy. I’ve not gone out much due to the circuit breaker but I can’t wait to put this treatment to the test outside.
Shiseido Professional Sublimic Wonder Shield, $42, available online and at selected Shiseido Professional Sublimic salons including Shunji Matsuo (Ngee Ann City), Leekaja Beauty Salon and M Plus (Tampines).

IDS DermaShield Serum
With significant increase in screen time, a screen protector for the skin sounds about right. This innovative product by local beauty mavens, IDS Skincare, is what everyone needs in their skincare cabinet right now. Just like how some screen protectors block out the blue light from phones, DermaShield Serum does the same, but waaay better – and it’s got the credentials to prove it.
It’s made of power-packed ingredients like marigold extract, buddleja officinalis flower extract, niacinamide, pepha-age, alteromonas ferment extract and ectoin. Yes, it’s a mouthful but they do everything to combat damages caused by both blue and infra-red light, shield against pollution, and reduce premature ageing. You’d expect a thick, heavy consistency but the gel-like lightweight serum proves otherwise.
IDS DermaShield Serum, $105.93, available online and at IDS Clinics, Metro and Robinsons.

Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum
The combination of vitamin C and AHA in this serum makes it a handy weapon against pigmentation and dullness. It’s an ultra light, thin serum that absorbs fast and layers well underneath the rest of my skincare. I didn’t experience the reduction in texture that some reviews claim, but I did get brighter-looking skin. Having used up the entire bottle, I think it’s safe to say that it made my skin pretty happy. And if you want to incorporate acids into your skincare routine without that slightly tingly sensation, add this to your vanity, stat. Also adding bonus points for being vegan, cruelty-free and packaged in recyclable material!
Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum, $28 for 30ml, available at Sephora online and in stores.

IDS tinted sunscreen
I know that UV protection is essential even when indoors, but I generally dislike wearing sunscreen on its own as it gets greasier by the hour. What I found is that this IDS sunscreen applies easily and sets well with powder directly on top, without needing foundation – perfect for a stay-home routine. It has a vaguely clinical scent that reminds me of chlorine, so heads up if you’re not a fan (I personally don’t mind it). In terms of being a tinted product, I wish it was more colour correcting instead of just making my whole face look paler, which makes my complexion look quite washed out. If I’m heading out, I’d throw on some foundation to cover that up. For semi-lockdown days though, it does the job of defending my skin from those dreaded UV rays without feeling heavy.
IDS tinted sunscreen, $73 for 50ml, available online and in Metro stores.

Bio-essence Bio-Gold Radiant Black Eye Mask
After years of avoiding eye and mouth areas when applying masks, it’s quite invigorating to use a product that’s specifically meant for your under eyes. The formula has charcoal and gold powder to brighten up those panda peepers, gently moisturise sensitive eye contour areas and slow down signs of ageing around the eyes. Oh, and I also forgot about the speckles of superior gold flakes that keep the under-eye area alive.
Bio-essence Bio-Gold Radiant Black Eye Mask, $29.90, available online and at C K Department Store, Guardian, NTUC Fairprice, OG, Robinsons and Watsons.

Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask
No matter how many masks I’ve tried, I keep coming back to my go-tos, and this is one of them. The quarantine period has not been kind to my skin – I’ve been suffering from breakouts, obvious black and whiteheads, and large pores. I slather this mask on twice a week (I alternate with other face masks to target other concerns) and my skin hits restart, just like that. The Irish moor mud, mixed with hijiki seaweed, volcanic ash, and activated charcoal, is also brimming with moisture, vitamins, essential minerals, and antioxidants.
Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask, $115, available at Sephora and online.

It Cosmetics Confidence In A Gel Lotion
This moisturiser is so good, I’d even ride past the cheesy name. I wanted something light but also potent enough to keep me hydrated throughout the quarantine period, and this just hits the mark. A little goes a long way with the moisturiser and I’m glad it doesn’t leave an oily sheen. It’s also packed with ceramides, glycerin and cactus flower extract to smooth fine lines. It’s a win for me.
It Cosmetics Confidence In A Gel Lotion, $42, available at Sephora and online.

Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
While being stuck at home, I ran out of tea tree oil and was looking for another product I could use as a spot treatment. Thankfully, the Internet informed me that clay masks are a great fix for those pesky spots. I laid this Innisfree clay mask on my problem areas and it worked just as well as tea tree oil! That aside, if you’re giving yourself an at-home facial, this is an amazing post-extraction mask to soothe your skin and absorb excess oil.
Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask, $21 for 100ml, available at Innisfree stores.

Marc Jacobs Youthquake Hydra-full Retexturising Gel Creme Moisturiser
Currently scraping the bottom of this ah-mazing moisturiser right now and I’m having trouble parting ways with it. This ultra creamy formula gives you an instant glow, clocks in hydration around the clock, preps your canvas for makeup and smells oh-so-good. After-all, it’s known to be a multi-tasking marvel for deep hydration and retexturising results, and is filled with good stuff such as pineapple enzymes, sodium hyaluronate, and antioxidant-rich starfruit and dragon fruit extracts. A definite winner for me.
Marc Jacobs Youthquake Hydra-full Rexturising Gel Creme Moisturiser, $78, available and selected Sephora stores.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer
If you feel that you’re looking pale, a lack of bronzer might have something to do with it – I can attest. I’ve been using Benefit’s Hoola almost daily for a warm shade that’s properly matte. Now, I do love some glitter on a good skin day, but it can look quite unflattering when I’m dealing with a bout of textured skin. That’s why I definitely appreciate a reliable matte option in my makeup stash, and Hoola is a lovely pigmented option. A little goes a long way, so I recommend starting light and building it up. The nifty brush that comes in the box is a breeze to use too!
Benefit Hoola Bronzer, $53 for 8g, available at Sephora stores and online.

Act + Acre Cold Processed Scalp Detox
I’ll go ahead and admit it. I’ve been ignoring scalp care for a while, and now I’m paying the price. In case you didn’t know, the scalp secretes oils. Pair that with all the product buildup (looking at you, dry shampoo) and you’ve got the dreaded D word – dandruff. Act + Acre’s cold processed scalp treatment is a great weekly detox that gives you a breather. It definitely does the job in cleaning the gunk out but my scalp felt too dry and the dandruff remains. Giving this a few more tries before I make a final decision.
Act + Acre Cold Processed Scalp Detox, $62, available online and selected Sephora stores.

Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream
Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream reminds me so much of Belief’s Aqua Bomb cream, except it touts anti-ageing effects on top of providing hydration. The anti-ageing element is meant to be preventative by protecting the skin from free radicals, so I can’t say that it’ll eliminate already existing lines. One thing’s for sure though: Having used up an entire tub, it definitely leaves my skin feeling dewy, supple and happy.
Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream, $49 for 50ml, available at Sephora stores and online.

Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil
Who doesn’t love good old rosehip oil. It’s a multi-tasking elixir that moisturises, boosts skin cell turnover, reduces hyperpigmentation, inflammation and scars, and gives your skin that sun-kissed glow. So there’s no surprise Pai Skincare’s Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is a big hit. It blends antioxidants and omegas to nourish and regenerate the skin. It’s also known to reduce blemishes, scars, stretch marks, sun damage, age spots and even fine lines.
I’ve been using this religiously, day and night, and I’m loving it. The product seeps right into my skin and ironically does not leave an oily sheen. My acne scars are slowly fading away and my skin is looking healthy. A little goes a long way with this, though I do go a little crazy at night. Feel free to use the oil on your body – I’ve even used it on stubborn chicken pox scars on my shoulders.
Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil, $48, available and selected Sephora stores.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream
IT Cosmetics has launched two new shades of its iconic CC+ Cream and I think I finally found my shade. I can’t tell if it delivered on the anti-ageing promise on my skin, but it certainly has incredible (not cakey) coverage. Even when I have some recovering spots, I can still skip the concealer with this – and it gets brownie points for streamlining my morning routine!
This does oxidise, so try swatching a shade lighter and you’ll probably end up with a good match. Hot tip: If your sunscreen (which you should be wearing everyday!) gives you a whitecast, then go for your usual shade and layer it on top. The oxidisation of the CC+ cream will counteract the whitecast, which will create an overall shade that matches your skin.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, $62 for 32 ml, available at Sephora stores and online.

Kora Organics Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum
We all know how important it is to add AHAs and BHAs to your night routine. They work hard overnight to renew the skin and increase skin cell turnover, leaving you with supple skin and a smoother complexion in the morning. Kora Organics’ Noni Night serum is packed with vegan goodies including noni, Sicilian white grapes, willow bark, lemon peel ferment and caviar lime. I like how the product doesn’t feel sticky, unlike some serums, and it leaves my skin feeling tighter but not dry. However, I haven’t seen prominent results just yet so I’ll give it more time to work its magic.
Kora Organics Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum, $98, available and selected Sephora stores.

Doers of London Daily Grind Hydrating Face Cream
Doers of London focuses on natural products for men, but this face cream is a straightforward moisturiser that’s suitable for all skin types and I’m thoroughly enjoying it too. It’s also listed under “gifts for her” on Sephora’s site, so go figure. Lavender is my absolute favourite essential oil, so no surprises that I fell in love with this lavender-scented cream at first whiff. The formula is moisturising but not heavy, leaving a dewy but not oily-looking effect. Plus, it layers so beautifully under makeup, I think anyone who wears makeup should give this a go! Another mood booster: The incredibly aesthetically-pleasing nature of Doers of London’s packaging. Safe to say, this face cream definitely adds joy to my daily grind.
Doers of London Daily Grind Hydrating Face Cream, $40 for 100ml, available at Sephora stores and online.

Huda Beauty Life-Liner Duo Pencil & Liquid Eyeliner
As a chronic eyeliner user, I’m quite a snob when it comes to this essential in my makeup routine. It has to be long-lasting, waterproof, smudge-proof (‘cos nothing will help my oily lids) and highly pigmented. The eyeliner from Huda Beauty ticks all of the above but why wasn’t I obsessed? I had no issues with the easy-glide pencil liner, though the liquid eyeliner was another story.
It’s really tricky to apply, especially if you’re going for a winged eyeliner look. I always have to clean it up with another eyeliner – which defeats the purpose. And it’s also so effing hard to remove. Even after using a combo of makeup removers, I still have a faint stain over my lids. My lids were begging me to stop. Is it worth it? For the hefty price, I’d say no.
Huda Beauty Life-Liner Duo Pencil & Liquid Eyeliner, $45, available at selected Sephora stores and online.

Clio Kill Brow Color Brow Lacquer
If you’re looking for a wallet-friendly tint option so that your brows match your dyed hair, I’d highly rate the ones from Clio’s Kill Brow range. The lacquer is of just the right consistency and comes with a small brush for easy application. Pigmentation is great (it totally dyes all of my black brow hairs brown), it dries fast and lasts all day. Oh, and for those who are deep in the Hallyu Wave, you’d be pleased to know that Clio has a list of Korean celebrities as its brand ambassadors too.
Clio Kill Brow Color Brow Lacquer, $22.90, available at Watsons stores and online.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer
“Why look for something else when I’ve finally scored the perfect concealer?” I asked myself as I swatched my shade at the Fenty Beauty counter. But as a beauty writer, I knew I had to embrace change. I might be late to the party (the instant retouch concealer was launched last January) but that will not stop me from dishing my honest thoughts. I kept delaying my purchase after hearing rumours that the formula might be too thick for daily makeup, but the creamy consistency proved me wrong. It has a medium to full coverage with a matte finish. Plus, you do not have to use your hands thanks to the doe foot applicator.
My only beef is that, because of the matte finish, the concealer dries quickly so you have to be fast unless you want to spend more time blending and setting the product – and I can’t afford that.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer, $38, available at all Sephora stores and online.

Rooki Anti Pollution Nano Drops
A new kid on the local beauty brand block, Rooki’s lightweight serums are a breeze to use. They feel super comfortable on the skin and – get this – you can even mix them into your other serums or moisturisers for that extra boost. Each serum features specific superfoods for different skin concerns, but I’d think the anti-pollution serum (featuring peach juice and Kudzu root) is a pretty universal one for all city folks. After a month of use, the pollution-blocking effects don’t seem to prevent my pores from getting congested, but it does have a subtle anti-inflammatory element, with a slightly calming effect on my skin when it’s irritated (think redness or hormonal breakouts).
Rooki Anti Pollution Nano Drops, $68 for 30ml, available online.

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes
I thank my genetics for blessing me with long eyelashes (#humblebrag) so mascara has never been part of my daily makeup routine. Until now. This mascara does all it promises to do: increase curl, volume, length and drama. It’s also incredibly easy to use, thanks to the fine-tipped bristles that leave no lash behind. It doesn’t clump and allows me to apply multiple coats of mascara without drying too quickly. Who needs falsies? However, I’m just not sure if it’s waterproof so be sure to keep that in mind!
Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes, $48, available at selected Sephora stores and online.

Supergoop Bright-Eyed Mineral Eye Cream
Bright-eyed is right: This eye cream has a salmon pink tint to it, which counters the bluishness of dark circles nicely. A corrector and sunscreen in one (it has SPF 40!), this is an easy cream to throw on in a jiffy. Test it out sparingly if you’re using it under makeup as it doesn’t layer too well: After I put on powder (I’ve experimented with both translucent and loose ones) following my usual base, it tends to clump up. I’d say use it for those no-makeup days when you want to look au naturel, sans the panda eyes.
Supergoop Bright-Eyed Mineral Eye Cream, $55 for 15ml, available at Sephora stores and online.

Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Sculpting Kit
I can never fathom the exorbitant prices of products for brows. So when I spotted this affordable brow sculpting kit, I just had to give it a go. It has two mini palettes: wax to sculpt those brows into shape and powder to set, with a dual brush and a spoolie. Also, it comes in a handy kit so you can touch up your brows on the go. Great value and quality? I’ll take it any day!

Soul Good Project deodorant spray and balm
If you’re concerned about what you put on your face, you should also pay as much attention to what you apply on your pits. This homegrown brand is educating us with an array of natural deodorant sprays and balms, featuring woody and citrusy scents that smell oh-so-good. Free of aluminium and parabens, these babies are made with natural active ingredients like coconut oil, magnesium and arrowroot starch to neutralise odour. The sprays come in a 50ml bottle, which you can pop into your bag. Even though it’s hassle-free to use, I did find it a little sticky. I’m leaning towards the balm for now. It’s dry and has an amazing scent (I’m using Himalayan Wilderness) that stays on throughout the day. However, it would be great if it came with an applicator. A spatula, perhaps?
Soul Good Project, Deodorant Balm ($26.90); Deodorant Spray ($25.90), available online.
Skin Better Instant Effect Eye Gel
It’s tricky to weigh in on eye creams as it takes a while for results to show. Which is why I was surprised to see visible results from this eye cream in just a month or so. This newly launched eye gel by Skinbetter Science promises to improve eye bags, crow’s feet and wrinkles. Even though I did not see a significant difference in my crow’s feet, my dark circles appeared lighter – probably from brightening ingredients like vitamin C. I also like the hands-free applicator that comes with a stainless-steel rollerball to reduce puffiness.
Skin Better Instant Effect Eye Gel, $130, available online and at selected clinics including Ageless Medical, Freia Medical, NU.U Aesthetics & Wellness Clinic and Sozo Aesthetic Clinic.
Two Halves Better Balance Soothing Hydration Essence
Oh, how we squeal in delight when there’s a new vegan skincare brand on our radar. As its moniker suggests, Two Halves’ soothing hydration essence does just that – it’s a lightweight gel that my skin just drinks up upon application. Using plant-based ingredients packed with anti-inflammatory, anti-photoaging and antioxidant properties, the essence is said to nourish and rejuvenate the skin. But does it do the job? I’m giving it a maybe for now. Even though I love the gentle, non-sticky formula and how glides on nicely, I’m still waiting for noticeable results after a month. I’ll give it a couple of months for it to work its magic.
Two Halves Better Balance Soothing Hydration Essence, $85, available online and at all Novela outlets.
Hourglass Nº 28™ Lip Treatment Oil
We’re all for multi-purpose (aka lazy-girl) makeup over here and this lippie treatment does the job. It’s got a whopping 28 ingredients that target moisture and wrinkles – leaving your lips plump and soft, along with a choice of five shades for a hint of colour (just like lip gloss). And if you’re OTT, you’ll love the gold-plated palladium tip that dispenses the product.
Hourglass Nº 28™ Lip Treatment Oil, $82, available at selected Sephora stores and online.
Est. Lab LumiWhite Exfoliating Scrub
I’ve been looking for an exfoliator that’s not too harsh on my skin and I think I’ve found a strong contender. Est.lab’s LumiWhite exfoliating scrub doesn’t strip off moisture – probably ‘cos of hydration heroes like fucogel, panthenol and gentle jojoba beads. And it’s also 100% bio-degradable. As with any brightening formula (Stay-C 50, a derivative of vitamin C, is a key ingredient), my dull skin appears visibly “alive” after each wash. I use this twice a week for best results.
Est. Lab LumiWhite Exfoliating Scrub, $78, available online and locations at Dhoby Ghaut, Sengkang, Tampines and Jurong East.

Solos Cosmetics MyLiner Felt Black Liquid Eyeliner
My daily makeup routine is simple. Concealer, setting powder, eyeliner and I’m ready to go. So it’s crucial that my eyeliner has to feature the trifecta: It needs to be waterproof, smudge-proof and have an intense black colour that’ll stand out on my brown skin. I thought I had found my holy grail but boy, was I wrong. Enter Solos’ eyeliner. This product is the perfect dupe for all your liquid eyeliner needs. Extra points for the vegan and halal-certified formula. Oh, and did we mention it’s only $8? What a steal. I’m using the regular-sized felt tip but you can opt for the micro-size tip for more control.

Fresh’s Rose Face Mask
Before I begin, I have to say that this mask smells heavenly. It’s like I’m submerging my face in a pool of roses. It states that they use two-and-a-half roses per jar and a “smart” algae that is able to deliver moisture to areas that need the most hydration. Well, that this is one brainy algae. In 10 minutes, my skin feels plump and fresh (no pun intended) – maximum benefit with minimum effort!

LG Pra.L Derma LED Mask
I’m sure there were many oohs and ahhs when LG launched its beauty tech collection last year. I mean, just look at this technological marvel. Even Iron Man’s got nothing on this futuristic piece. There’s ample reason to geek out on the Derma LED Mask – it holds 160 red and IR LED lights with specific wavelength spectrums to tackle beyond the surface. This power mask also promises to rejuvenate and plump up the skin, improve elasticity around the eye rim and reduce pigmentation and pore size – all in nine minutes.
However, you gotta be patient. There are no visible immediate results, but after using it religiously over eight weeks on alternative days, I’m left with a more even skin tone (save for stubborn scars) and smaller pores. I pop it on every night after moisturiser and end off with a face mist. My only gripe is that the mask was not the most comfortable. It weighed down on the bridge of my nose, leaving a slight dent after each use. But hey, anything for porcelain skin, amirite?

Lagom Cellup Gel-to-Water Cleanser
As someone with oily skin, gel cleansers are my go-to. Lagom’s gel-to-water cleanser is lightweight and just enough to remove my skincare products from the night before, without stripping away moisture. After all, it is formulated DermaFluxTM – an ingredient that activates aquaporins. TL;DR: It basically hydrates your skin cells with adequate moisture. Fair warning, if you’re using this as a night-time cleanser, best to pair it with the Micro Foam Cleanser to really remove all excess makeup and gunk.

The Inkey List Kaolin Clay Face Mask
You know, one of those days where your skin looks oily enough to fry an egg but you’re too lazy to use peel-off masks (which take ages to dry and not to mention they can be a total b**** to remove). C’mon, nobody has time for that. That’s when The Inkey List clay mask comes in. It takes just 10 minutes to suck out the excess oils on your face and it washes off easily. And no, it doesn’t harden, so you don’t feel like a statue that’s about to crack. It actually leaves your skin feeling fresh and clear – almost like a blank canvas, all ready to absorb the good stuff you’re going to lather on after. And at $12, this is a total steal!

Remescar Eye Night Repair
We all know that eye creams are a vital step in everyone’s skincare routine. I’ve been using a gentle eye cream for both day and night until I got my hands on this baby. The Remescar Eye Night Repair promises visible results for eye bags and dark circles, crow’s feet and saggy eyelids in just 28 days. With all the binge-watching going on during the holidays, I haven’t been good to my eyes so I had to put this to the test. I’ve been using it for two months and I must say, my crow’s feet have faded ever so slightly. I spend some time dabbing the cream on my lids and around the contour of my eyes. Of course, clocking in enough ZZZs is also crucial.
