If you’re coveting a healthy scalp and lustrous tresses, the signature herbal treatment from Bee Choo Origin could be a game-changer. Read on for our honest experience!
There’s lots to love about Singapore. But the weather isn’t one of them. Thanks to the endless humidity and sweat fests, my tresses and scalp have become collateral damage. Two issues, in particular, bug me the most: greasiness and hair fall. After countless bad hair days, I was determined to switch up my hair care routine. Enter the all-natural herbal treatment from scalp and hair salon, Bee Choo Origin. This unique herb-based formula is said to deep-cleanse and nourish your scalp while tackling other pain points. I took a leap of faith and gave this treatment a go.
The 101: Bee Choo Origin signature herbal hair treatment
For starters, what makes a herbal treatment? Formulated and made in Singapore, the signature herbal treatment from Bee Choo Origin features premium herbs like ginseng, he shou wu (Chinese knotweed), dang gui (Angelica sinensis), ling zhi (reishi mushroom) and other herbal extracts.
This 100% natural formula cleanses excess sebum, rids dead skin cells and unclogs pores, leaving your scalp clean and healthy. At the same time, it rebalances the pH level of your scalp and improves blood circulation. This, in turn, is your ticket to thicker and healthier hair growth, addressing dandruff, hair loss, and other issues. And good news: this herbal treatment is generally suitable for most hair conditions and ages.
Let the scalp and hair revival begin!
An all-natural formula with multiple benefits? I was sold. I stepped into the Toa Payoh outlet for my first treatment and was welcomed by the friendly staff. The specialist ran me through the treatment process, sharing how it takes 75 to 90 minutes depending on whether I go for the colourless or coloured option.
While both versions offer the same benefits, the coloured option takes it up a notch by adding colour to your hair. The latter helps cover up any white or grey hair, transforming it to a reddish-orange shade (the colour may vary for individuals). Perfect for those who value efficiency!
A step-by-step transformation
In typical hair treatment fashion, we started with a scalp analysis. This thorough examination revealed all the problematic areas of my scalp. My mid-scalp region looked the greasiest, with some thinning strands here and there. Meanwhile, the sides of my scalp appeared dryer which the specialist shared can lead to itchiness.
Kicking off the five-step process, a hair tonic (consisting of ginger and he shou wu) was sprayed over my scalp. This was followed by a quick massage to improve blood circulation, plus allow the tonic and subsequent products to be better absorbed. Next, she went in with pure virgin olive oil. This was only applied to the ends of my hair to reduce dryness and add shine.
The specialist then wheeled out a tub filled to the brim with a brownish-green cream – the signature herbal treatment cream from Bee Choo Origin. A heads-up: the smell was strong and reminded me of traditional Chinese medicine. This nutrient-packed cream was expertly applied to my hair, with a focus on the scalp. Expect a slight cooling sensation that is similar to using a menthol shampoo. Once the cream was applied all over my hair and scalp, I just had to sit tight for a 30-minute steaming session (45 minutes if you opted for the coloured version).
Herbal hair treatment: Scalp zero or hero?
The 30-minute session flew past as I caught up on some work. Tip: the store has Wi-Fi so you can unwind with a show or clear emails while waiting! I was whisked off to the washing station, where I underwent two rounds of shampooing. The first round cleansed any oils from the scalp, while the second helped to moisturise it. The treatment finished off with some conditioner and a quick blow-drying sesh.
Of course, we had to conclude with a post-treatment scalp analysis and I could immediately see the difference. The grime was gone, and most areas on my scalp looked cleaner and fresher. There was also added lustre to my previously dry (and drab) tresses.
In the next few days following my treatment, I noticed that my scalp was less oily and itchy, too. The clumps of hair fall post-showers were also reduced, which I consider a win! My only gripe might be the herbal smell that lingered in my hair for the next two days, but that’s nothing a spritz of perfume can’t solve.
For best results, Bee Choo Origin recommends customers treat their hair with the herbal treatment once every three to four weeks. Those with severely oily scalp or hair loss problems would benefit from a treatment every one to two weeks for the first two months. While results vary according to individual conditions, visible changes are usually seen within three to six months. Coupled with its wallet-friendly prices (from $40 per sesh depending on hair length), this makes a fuss-free maintenance routine for your hair and scalp.
