This one’s incredibly delicious and affordable. So it’s no surprise there’s always a winding queue waiting to get into Nakhon Kitchen. Every dish is practically flawless in this authentic Thai eatery. Papaya salad, pandan leaves chicken, mango sticky rice and pineapple fried rice… we’re not sure where to begin with the recommendations!

6. Badoque
It may be small, but this quaint, muslim-owned cafs nestled behind Simpang Bedok serves a wide array of cuisines. We’re talking about shabsouka, steak, carbonara, ayam bakar and pan seared salmon all under one roof.

7. FatCat Ice Cream Bar

Fengshan Market and Food Centre, or more affectionately known as 85 Market, is another oldie – but always a goodie – on the supper scene. Must-tries include bak chor mee (minced pork noodles) from Xing Ji, barbequed chicken wings from Chong Pang Huat, sambal stingray from Chan BBQ and steaming congee from Chai Chee Pork Porridge.

10. RouteSixtySix

If you’re in the East and need some house-brewed coffee, red velvet waffles and Earl Grey lavender ice cream to perk you up, pop by RouteSixtySix. Named after the well-known US highway, this industrial-inspired cafe offers coffees, teas and waffles in flavours such as buttermilk and red velvet.

11. Hua Yu Wee
Housed in a grand mansion along Upper East Coast Road, Hua Yu Wee is the only 1970s seafood restaurant that stayed along the stretch and didn’t relocate to East Coast Park like the others. Snag a table at the open-air backyard and be transported back to Singapore’s past. Must-orders include chilli crab and black pepper crayfish.

12. Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery
Another hidden gem near the famous Block 85 hawker centre, Lek Lim offers a multitude of handmade Nyonya kueh for discerning customers to sample. Try halal-certified snacks such as pulut inti (turquoise glutinous rice with gula melaka) and kotoh ubi (tapioca kueh).
