Top food stalls at Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre
1. Eng Kee Chicken Wings

No one does chicken wings better than Eng Kee – we’re talking irresistibly crispy chook coated with well-marinated batter. It’s a sin if you spot this stall and don’t walk over to get your fried chicken fix. You can eat the wings by themselves or dip the meat in the chilli sauce for a sweet, not-so-spicy contrast. Supplement your order with extra ingredients like fishcake or fried noodles.

2. Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun
Even though most people won’t bat an eyelid at the unassuming chee cheong fun, these rice rolls have their fair share of followers. It helps that this Michelin Plate stall is still around to serve this dim sum fave. Diners can chow down on plain chee cheong fun or go for the ones with char siew, prawns, or scallops. The freshly made silky rolls might transport you to Hong Kong as you chew on every bite.

Munchi’s delightful offerings come in a dizzying array of fillings such as strawberry cream cheese, Thai milk tea, shredded coconut, red bean paste, and more. Be warned: you might have to wait 30 minutes (or longer) during peak periods. But tbh, it’s more than worth it.

5. 97 Nasi Lemak

If there’s only one local dish you can eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? For us, it’d be the humble nasi lemak. Every hawker centre has at least one stall selling it, and here you can find it at the halal-certified 97 Nasi Lemak. Diners can choose between four sets; each contains meat or seafood like sotong fillet, chicken wing, or Nyonya otah. If you’re lucky, you might just spot the owner, who’s said to resemble local personality Vivian Lai.

Well, pop by Kawan Bowl’s stall. The signature bowl is the ayam berempah egg rice, featuring a spiced chicken leg that lends a tasty kick. Those who want to up the fiery notch can go for the sambal prawn or taliwang chicken cutlet.

13. Abang Teh Tarik

The frustrating thing about some hawker centres is that there’s only one drinks stall, which means you’ll have to wait before you get your thirst quenchers. Thank heavens this place has two stalls! If you can’t tell by its name, Abang Teh Tarik is all about the quintessential ‘pulled milk tea’ (and coffee), though you can find other beverages. The iced teh cino is a certified “best choice” – just saying! You can also get light bites like curry puffs, you tiao, and popiah here.
