Tips on how to choose the right spa in Ubud
With so many options, it helps to know what you’re looking for before you book:
- Budget: Ubud has exceptional quality at every price point. Budget spas (IDR 200K to 400K for a 60-minute massage) offer authentic Balinese techniques without frills. Luxury spas (IDR 1M+) add extraordinary settings, signature rituals, and elevated products.
- Treatment type: If you want traditional Balinese healing, prioritise family-run spas like Ubud Traditional Spa or Ubud Bodyworks. For high-tech facials or advanced skincare, INKA Spa is the pick. For Ayurvedic therapies, choose Fivelements or Bali Botanica.
- Settings and location: Romantic rice field views (Hammana Spa), riverside jungle (The Sacred River Spa, Fivelements), or central Ubud locations (Taksu, Jaens) – the setting can be just as much a part of the experience as the treatment itself.
- Couples vs. solo: Most spas offer both. Hammana, Soulshine, and Jaens have the most thoughtfully designed couples packages.
- Booking ahead: Budget spas are usually walk-in friendly. Luxury spas at Four Seasons and COMO should be booked several days in advance, especially in July and August.

Then, it’s all about traditional spa treatments delivered by a team of expert therapists. The classic Balinese massages and reflexology are worth the trip alone, but I couldn’t say no to the Four Hands Ubud Royal Massage. I also tried the Rice Farmer Massage, which is inspired by the massages given by the wives of rice farmers. All of this at an affordable price too!

2. The Sacred River Spa
Ultra-luxury Ubud spa specialising in chakra healing, energy balancing and transformative wellness experiences.
The mother of all luxury spas in Ubud is The Sacred River Spa. And it’s in a class all of its own. This six-star wellness destination breaks the mould of your typical Bali bliss session by going beyond material pampering. It transcends the physical for a deep, inner focus on the flow of energy, balance and harmony from within – providing the kind of inner glow that no single beauty treatment could ever offer.
The seven healing Chakra Ceremonies are the specialty here, which target each chakra individually. For example, the grounding Muladhara root chakra treatment begins with a cleansing Balinese “kemenyan” smoke ceremony, serenaded by crystal singing bowls tuned to 432Hz to align with Mother Earth’s own heartbeat. This encourages vibrational flow, before a deep and hypnotic full-body massage. And before you go, don’t miss the transcendent Sacred Nap experience in the open-air bamboo shala.
Best for: Singles and couples, chakra-balancing ceremonies, sacred nap (sleep therapy).
Price: A 75-minute full-body massage starts from IDR 2,800,000.
Address: Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Jl Raya Sayan, Sayan, Ubud.
Opening hours: Daily, 9am – 9pm.
3. Soulshine Spa
Wellness-focused Ubud spa blending aromatherapy massages, sound healing and nature-inspired relaxation.

Nestled within Bali’s first Sound + Wellness resort, the brainchild of superstars Sarah and Michael Franti, Soulshine Spa seamlessly combines the couple’s love of music, connection and relaxation. As soon as I walked into this beautifully designed spa, it instantly became my new favourite. The friendly staff greeted me with the warmest smile, and a foot soak right by the floor-to-ceiling windows with views of untouched greenery. I then headed to the gorgeous treatment room, where I had my relaxing aromatherapy massage.
Psst – if you’re staying at the hotel, you can book an in-room bath ritual (hellooo wine bath!), and turn your room into your own private spa.
Best for: Couples, massage with a view, design lovers.
Price: A 60-minute full-body massage starts from IDR 834,900.
Address: Soulshine Bali, Jl Ambarawati, Ubud.

I chose a multi-treatment package followed by a relaxing bubble bath. While I love all of their Ubud-based spas, my favourite is Jaens Spa Triloka on Pengosekan Street – it’s a convenient address in central Ubud, yet super calming inside.
Best for: Traditional spa treatments in modern settings.
