Roll through Singapore’s most wheelchair-friendly attractions – no barriers here!
Singapore is known for its accessibility, with a public transport system that’s a breeze to navigate. But for those with mobility challenges, getting around can be a bit more complex. Fortunately, our little red dot is stepping up its game to make sure everyone feels welcome, including wheelchair users. From lush green spaces to iconic places of interest, many of Singapore’s top spots are designed with accessibility in mind. Here’s a roundup of wheelchair-friendly attractions in Singapore that offer smooth, barrier-free experiences.
Wheelchair-friendly places in Singapore to explore
1. Gardens by the Bay
Singapore’s most flashy and famous attraction also accommodates wheelchair users. Firstly, a free wheelchair-accessible shutter service between Bayfront MRT station and the two conservatories is available for those with mobility issues. The smooth and wide walkways, alongside special ramps, lifts, barrier-free routes, and non-slip gantries, make it easy to navigate on wheels.
Wheelchair rental is also available for $2 per day at The Canopy and Floral Fantasy’s ticketing counters and the Arrival Gift Shop. Rented mobility devices must be returned by 8.30pm. P.S. This behemoth offers the disadvantaged and persons with disabilities free admission to the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatories.

2. Singapore Flyer
Everyone’s invited to this observation wheel! Yes, that includes folks on mobility devices. Singapore Flyer features ramps and lifts that allow wheelchair users to get in, out, and around the place. On top of that, the ticketing booth, boarding area, and carpark are within earshot of the lifts. During boarding, the staff will stop the wheel so that wheelchair users can get on safely and easily. Each capsule can accommodate up to five wheelchairs and 15 other visitors. Have fun pointing out familiar landmarks and taking in the view of our city skyline.

3. National Gallery Singapore
Did you know this historical icon in the Civic District is wheelchair accessible? The galleries are wide enough for most mobility aids, though there aren’t any charging ports for motorised wheelchairs. The lifts at both lobbies have a width clearance of 1.09m between the doors, which means they can accommodate wheelchair users.
Every floor of the City Hall Wing (except Level 6) has an accessible restroom with automated doors operated by pressing a button beside the entrance. Manual wheelchairs can be loaned free from the information counters at the Coleman Street entrance, Padang Atrium, and Basement 1. There’s also free admission for persons with disabilities and one accompanying caregiver.

Affectionately known as “the durian”, Singapore’s top performing arts centre has made it its mission to be as wheelchair-friendly as possible. If you need a wheelchair, you can borrow at no cost. Just contact the Customer Service Hotline and the friendly staff will be ready to assist. The venue has wheelchair-accessible seating, though they may not be available at times due to production requirements. 5. Singapore Botanic Gardens
Everyone deserves to experience the beauty of our Botanic Gardens, mobility notwithstanding. Thus, it’s no surprise our Unesco World Heritage Site is also wheelchair accessible. The wide paths allow individuals to manoeuvre their wheelchairs, though some parts may not be that easy to navigate due to the hilly terrain. Luckily, the Botany Centre and the entrance to the gardens are wheelchair accessible. Plus, the disabled carpark is located near the Cluny Road entrance. Approach any of the visitor services counters to borrow a wheelchair at no cost. Psst: while you’re here, be sure to check out the clock tower!

6. ArtScience Museum
One place we love visiting repeatedly is this architectural marvel. Besides being a haven where art and science collide, the ArtScience Museum is dedicated to being as wheelchair-friendly as possible. The elevators ensure that all visitors, including those on wheelchairs, can access all the floors and explore the exhibitions. Ramps and wide doorways make it easy for wheelchair users to move around the spaces.
Do you need a manual wheelchair for yourself or someone you know? They’re available free of charge at the information counter on Level 1. Persons with disabilities and one accompanying caregiver can enjoy concession rates when visiting the museum.

7. Punggol Regional Library
Everyone knows Punggol as an upcoming young estate with a waterfront shopping centre, Instagram-worthy locations, and Coney Island. But we’re going to highlight the five-storey library, which was designed with inclusivity in mind. One unique feature we wanna shout out is the “Borrow-n-Go” passageway, which uses ultra-high radio frequency identification technology. What does that mean? Well, wheelchair users can borrow books without placing them on the countertop, which is what most libraries in Singapore require. Punggol Regional Library has also mapped out wheelchair-friendly routes so individuals can get to their destinations independently.
