A modern hanok meets dessert cafe

The design of the new two-storey location at Amoy Street doesn’t stray very far from its sister location at Mandarin Gallery. Inspired by hanoks (traditional Korean houses), you’ll be surrounded by natural textures and a very calming atmosphere.
For a dessert cafe, I found it decently spacious with many seats. It’s ideal for those moments when you want to get out of the sun and cool down with some gelato. At the time of my visit, the second floor wasn’t open yet, but I imagine the upper floor will have more seats available. Maybe even traditional soban (low dining tea tables) to complete the vibe!
Protein-loaded sweet treats (macros inside!)

With eight flavours (original tofu, chodang sweet corn, high-protein tofu, Korean sweet potato, rich chocolate, pistachio, black sesame, and pomegranate) of gelato available at Tofu G, there’s something to satisfy any kind of craving without breaking the calorie bank.
I was pleasantly surprised by the textures of the gelatos as they aren’t overly gummy (a problem you can have with certain ice cream). Instead, it was silky and had a texture similar to ice cream. The gelato does melt very quickly, so you’ll have to take your pictures quickly.
The original tofu gelato ($8) tasted like drinking soy milk, an unsurprising flavour! It can lean a little bit sweet, but I found it delightful. If you want to really hit those protein goals, get the high-protein tofu gelato ($8). It has a stronger soy flavour and a thicker consistency, which may get cloying after a while, but is no less delicious.
The rich chocolate gelato ($8) delivers in richness. The chocolate flavour also overpowers the soy, so it’s more palatable for those who aren’t fans of the bean flavour of the original gelato. I was also a fan of the black sesame gelato ($8) for its bold, savoury black sesame taste.
For those who are curious, here are the macros for the original tofu gelato:
Serving size: 130g
Calories: 185
Protein: 10g
Fat: 5g
Carbohydrates: 23g
Sugar: 13g
The non-gelato desserts

If you’re not in the mood for gelato, Tofu G has two alternative soy desserts for you to try instead!
The pudding ($6) comes in original tofu, pistachio, and black sesame flavours. I tried the tofu flavour, and it tastes similar to the gelato – nutty and soy-forward. Remember to scoop down to the bottom of the jar to get a full bite with the syrup at the bottom!
The tiramisu ($8) also comes in a variety of flavours – cocoa powder, matcha powder, and injeolmi (soy bean) powder. Layered with coconut cream and coffee, the soy flavour is just as pronounced in this dessert. I personally wish I tasted more coffee in it, but it’s a great dessert for any soy lover.
Is Tofu G worth a visit?

Did I enjoy all the desserts I had at Tofu G? Yes, but I don’t see myself going out of my way to grab a scoop. At $8 a pop, there’s no denying Tofu G’s offerings are an expensive treat. I would say it’s worth a try at least once. But I’m not rushing back for another cup unless I’m actually craving this specific type of gelato.
