This year, Mariah Carey's classic "Merry Christmas" album celebrates its 25th anniversary.
In 1994, Mariah Carey released her first Christmas album, “Merry Christmas”. Then in her early 20s, the songstress was hesitant, thinking that it was too early in her career to be releasing holiday songs. But thanks to Tommy Mottola (her husband at the time) for pushing her, we now get to listen to the classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” every Christmas season. And we’re lovin’ it.
A silver anniversary…
Fast forward to today and “Merry Christmas” is celebrating its silver anniversary! In honor of this modern Christmas classic, a 2CD expanded edition was released for the fans. It features the original songs from the album, rare remixes, as well as unreleased live tracks from Mariah’s epic 1994 St. John the Divine concert (see playlist below). And speaking of performances, Mariah’s All I Want for Christmas Is You Tour in America is kicking off this Friday. What a treat!
Nineteenth #1?
Mariah is Billboard’s Top Female Solo Artist of All Time. Even though Lil Nas X beat one of her records this year for having the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 #1 song with “Old Town Road” (previously held by her song “One Sweet Day” feat. Boyz II Men for 16 weeks), Mariah might possibly reach another milestone in her career.
Last year, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest since its release in 1994. Thanks to different streaming platforms, this song has reached new audiences and is now charting annually during the festive season!
And can we just add that Mariah holds the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 #1’s by a female artist and for solo artists overall (beating the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley)? Not to jinx it, but it’s just November and her classic Christmas track is already charting (the earliest ever at #39) so it’s very likely that by December she will have yet another one, which would be her 19th! Can we get a “Yaaasss Queen”?!

Ms. Carey is also everywhere in the UK right now because of her already classic Walkers Crisps ad! P.S. Did you notice that she took the smallest bite possible?
Mariah may be many things to many people, but we can all admit that she’s definitely well-acquainted with Santa Claus and Christmas!
