Everyone’s favourite festive event returns, and it’s better than ever. Here’s what you can expect at Christmas Wonderland 2024.
Christmas fever has begun, and festive cheer is already lighting up our little red dot. Amidst all the fun and holiday shopping, one event everyone in Singapore looks forward to is the annual Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay. Dazzling light displays, magical snowfall, and a charming Xmas market – what’s not to love? Here’s what to expect at this year’s Yuletide fair.
Christmas Wonderland 2024: Must-see activities at Gardens by the Bay
1. Return of the 20-metre Spalliera and snowfall
You should know the Spalliera, aka that magnificent light display everyone posts on their social media accounts. Fun fact: the installation is roughly the height of four adult giraffes. Wow! This year’s design is inspired by Italian Gothic architecture and fitted with over 100,000 LED light bulbs handmade by artisans from southern Italy.
As you walk down the illuminated path towards the Spalliera, experience snow in the tropics thanks to Blizzard Time. Picture yourself standing under a canopy of twinkling lights, as a flurry of snowflakes dance around, adding a magical touch to the tropical night. The returning fave takes place daily after Gardens by the Bay’s light and sound shows (7.45pm, 8.45pm, and 9.35pm), where the Supertrees will light up to festive tunes.
2. Festive light displays for photo opportunities
Did somebody say more light? As with past years, Christmas Wonderland promises plenty of light installations (and photo opportunities) dotted around Gardens by the Bay. Keep an eye out for the three Merry Bears at the Lawn – the largest stands at almost six metres tall! Of course, there are also returning favourites like the massive ornament balls and gift boxes.
That’s not all, folks. Yes, there are more captivating light displays to look forward to. Merry Lane presented by Trip.com features two Instagrammable sites. Stop and pose for multiple photos (and videos) at the 50m-long Walk of Lights tunnel before admiring Odette’s Dance, which pays homage to the iconic Swan Lake ballet. The mixed media installation combines light displays of swans with multimedia content and three ballerinas. Oh, be sure to explore the enchanted forest at Bluebell Lane.
3. Have fun at traditional carnival games and rides
Besides being a winter wonderland, this festive fairground will also host traditional carnival games and other fun activities. Try your hand at the Ring Toss, Fishy Fishy, and Snowball Smash booths located at the Supertree Grove. Not in the mood? That’s fine, you can take it easy at the double-storey Venetian horse carousel. Who says the ride’s only for kids? If that’s not enough, other carnival rides are waiting for you. P.S. Passes for the games and rides are sold separately.
4. Eat, drink, and be entertained by live acts
After soaking in the dazzling lights, refuel with festive treats and drinks. Feast on Christmas roast beef, turkey platters, pizzas, kebabs, and more. Imbibers can sip on craft beer courtesy of Harry’s and Brewerkz. Muslim friends, you’re not forgotten: there are halal options like fish and chips, tacos, meatballs and sausages, and shaved ice treats.
Food and drinks go hand-in-hand with live entertainment, and there’s no lack of the latter this year. Expect to see emerging singer-songwriters, festive flash mobs, and loads of choral acts. Psst: don’t miss the live performance of Christmas Wonderland’s theme music, Magic of Christmas, on 30 November and 1 December. The original piece is created by local composer-conductor Dr Darius Lim.
5. Mistletoe Alley’s full of shops galore
If you’re still in the thick of Christmas shopping (or maybe you’re the kind to leave it to the last minute – no judging here!), head straight to Mistletoe Alley’s pop-up market after admiring the light installations. Cute, colourful festive huts managed by cheerful elves will welcome you to step aside and check out the wares.
Santa’s Gift Shop is brimming with items you can give to friends, family, and colleagues. You can also get your hands on teas from Ito En and Petale Tea, and pet treats at Pawfurry and Amber Arts Gallery’s booth before nipping into the photo booth and snapping some lovely memorabilia.
6. Meet and greet Santa Claus
Have you been on your best behaviour this year? Go on and say hello to the jolly good fellow at Santa’s Village. We can’t promise you’ll get what you want, but at the very least, you’ll walk away with a snapshot in Santa’s home. The village will also be running workshops, and while details are scant at the mo, we bet it’ll be a fun and fascinating hands-on experience.
