Looking to mark this Antipodean event on 25 April 2015, but not sure where to go for Anzac events in Singapore? Look no further...
An Aussie or Kiwi in Singapore and looking for all the information around Anzac events on the island? You’re in the right place. The Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) community on the Red Dot are known for getting together on April 25 to commemorate the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli. Plus, 2015 marks 100 years on, so it’s an even more significant time for our Antipodean friends.
With Anzac Day giving thanks to those who lost their lives during the war, it’s also an opportunity for our pals Down Under to raise a glass. And then another one… and another one… and so on. Fancy joining the poignant party? With our list of awesome outback restaurants, Aussie and Kiwi pubs, and live music performances, there are plenty of chances to take part in the 100th anniversary – whether you’re from Australia, New Zealand or beyond. But first, here are details of the memorial service at Kranji War Memorial Cemetery – lest we forget.
ANZAC Day Dawn Service
Pay your respects to the brave ANZAC (Australia and Newzealand Army Corps) soldiers who fought and sacrifice their lives in the Gallipoli campaign. One of Australia’s most important national occasions, this solemn ceremony recognises the sacrifice made to support their countries. Setting the tone of the service will be a tribute performance, followed by an emotional service.
Light refreshments will be served once the service is concluded. Do get there early, as limited seats will be available. And please note that there will be no toilet facilities at the cemetery.
How to get there
We recommend joining the ANZA tour (priced at $5 for members and $15 for non-members). Not only will you arrive smoothly/avoid parking mayhem, the bus service is also a great time to meet fellow countrymen and reflect on the 100th anniversary. The bus will depart from Newton Hawker Market at 5.15am and will pick you after the service at 8am. To RSVP, contact ANZA at 6223 7992 or [email protected].
For those who are planning to pop down to Boomarang and watch the live telecast of the rugby matches; the bistro-bar is also offering a free return bus service to the Dawn Service. The bus will depart at 5.15am from Boomarang Robertson Quay and you can reserve a seat by emailing [email protected].
What to wear and bring
As this is a sombre ceremony, appropriate wear is advised. And while there are no rules in place, covered shoes and bottoms that cover your knees are best. Bring a bottle to hydrate yourselves – plus a torchlight to guide your way in the dark.
Where: Kranji War Memorial Cemetery, 9 Woodlands Road, Singapore 738656
When: Sat 25 April, 2015, 6.15am
