Food: Nikkei cuisine at Osaka x Nami
All weekend

Here’s a bit of history that you probably didn’t know. Back in the 1800s, several people from Japan moved to Peru, South America to find work. And with time, their Japanese food amalgamated with local Peruvian cooking to create Nikkei cuisine. And Osaka, voted one of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2018 for its Nikkei food, has landed on our island for a pop-up at Shangri-La’s Nami Restaurant and Bar. This weekend, catch the dinner-only seven-course menu that beautifully blends the best of two worlds. Chef Juan Urrutia and his team have specially flown in with exotic South American produce and serve up an incredible meal. We’re still dreaming about the refreshing nikkei ceviche with scallops, white fish and wasabi sauce and the chirashi black causa – a squid ink spiked mashed potatoes with a delish seafood spread (crab, shrimp, ikura, tuna), all injected with special chilli drizzle. Foodies, this nicely portioned menu that’s presented like art is one for the books. And give all five Peruvian-inspired cocktails a try – it’s the weekend, after all.
