Seminyak’s Best Restaurants: Editor’s Picks
1. Merah Putih
Indonesian fine dining in a stunning cathedral-like setting with indoor palms.

You’ll want to get dressed in your best for Merah Putih, because this iconic fine dining restaurant in Seminyak is easily the best in Bali for high-end Indonesian cuisine, stunning architecture (think cathedral-like ceilings and rain-catching pillars) and cutting-edge hospitality.
This grand dining destination dishes up time-honoured Indonesian recipes to gourmet standards, wrapped up in a theatrical yet intimate setting. I recommend swapping and sharing Merah Putih’s standouts, like the bak pao steamed buns stuffed with Sumatran beef, the slow-cooked bebek goreng, and the chargrilled ikan bakar. Pair it all with a locally-inspired signature cocktail. This is one grand design you won’t want to miss.
Best for: Indonesian fine dining and special occasion dinners.
Must-try dishes: Bak Pao Nangka, Bebek Menyat-Nyat, Nasi Campur.
How much: Mains start from IDR 180,000++
Good to know: Merah Putih is also open for lunch – it’s much quieter, and the dining room looks like a magical greenhouse.
Local tip: If you’re dining as a couple or group, try the Tasting Menu for a multi-course shared feast.
Where: Jl Petitenget No. 100x, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 12pm

2. Uma Garden
Wood-fired dinners in a lush, romantic, open-air garden setting.

Sitting on the outskirts of Seminyak overlooking the emerald rice paddies of Umalas is Uma Garden – a fire-based restaurant surrounded by greenery. It’s a peaceful sanctuary with a stylish and rustic ambience, and it’s become a go-to dining destination for date nights and group dinners beneath the stars.
Start your evening with a pre-dinner aperitivo within the stylish indoor lounge, and watch as the open kitchen comes to life. Then, make your way to the heart of the restaurant where communal tables set the scene for mingling over honest recipes and flame-kissed flavours. I tried the 24-hour slow-cooked pork belly, the Wagyu beef and the juicy prawns, ember-grilled to wood-fired perfection.
Best for: A romantic date night, or an open-air barbecue dinner with friends.
Must-try dishes: Charred Sea Bass, Slow-Cooked Pork Belly, Jumbo Prawns.
How much: Mains start from IDR 110,000++
Good to know: This place is on the outskirts of Seminyak, so you’ll need a taxi to get here.
Local tip: Arrive early before it’s dark, because this place is magical when the sun is setting.
Where: Jl Umalas 1 No. 8, Umalas
Opening hours: Daily from 1pm

3. Buzo
A trendy izakaya serving Japanese-Italian bar bites with craft beer and cocktails.

I’m calling it: this is the first of its kind in Bali. Buzo is a brand new Izakaya e Birra in Seminyak that’s done what others haven’t dared. By that I mean, they merge Japanese and Italian cuisines, using local Indonesian ingredients, and serve it all up alongside Bali-crafted pints. And yes, it works impeccably.
I recommend starting with a selection of small plates (my faves are the salmon rice cake, the seared scallop, and the miso mozzarella arancini), before moving on to the larger mains. There’s the succulent Koji-marinated striploin, heritage black pig katsu, and a tempura fritto misto. And with such a creative team behind the bar, make it a boozy dinner date with a round of signature cocktails – the Buzo Negroni, Tea Daiquiri and Dio Madre are my top picks. Ikou Buzo!
Best for: A vibrant dinner with friends in a buzzing Japanese Izakaya setting.
Must-try dishes: Snapper Tartare, Seared Scallop, Heritage Black Pig Katsu.
How much: Mains start from IDR 150,000++
Good to know: This is another restaurant from famed Chef Will Meyrick, so you know it’s going to be good.
Local tip: The katsuobushi butter served with warm, homemade bread is addictive. Don’t miss it!
Where: Jl Kayu Aya No. 105, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 12pm.
4. Mama San
Elevated Pan-Asian street food with incredible cocktails and stylish interiors.

Anyone who’s anyone absolutely must make a reservation at Mama San. It’s the cult-status restaurant from celeb chef Will Meyrick, and it’s where you can try his famous Pan-Asian cuisine. By day, the lunch menu pays homage to the vibrant flavours of Asia’s street food classics, with dim sum, stir fries and signature small plates.
Then as the sun sets, the menu transforms to match the elegant evening ambience, with the finest ingredients and elevated techniques from across the region. Think wood-smoked salmon, a Thai-style clay pot, Vietnamese pho bo and a Burmese lamb curry. Couple this with the upscale interiors and you’ll soon understand why Mama San tops every list of Seminyak’s best restaurants.
Best for: Cocktail-fuelled dinners over elevated Pan-Asian street food.
Must-try dishes: Scallop & Coconut Pancakes, Malaysian Lamb Shoulder, Prawn Drunken Noodles.
How much: Mains start from IDR 160,000++
Where: Jl Raya Kerobokan No. 135, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily 12pm – 10.30pm
5. The Long Table
An immersive Indonesian communal dining experience, hidden beneath John Hardy’s artisan gallery.
Hidden below the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery in Seminyak, you’d probably never find The Long Table unless you’re in the know. It’s one of the few truly cultural dining experiences in Seminyak, where you get a real taste of local flavours and tradition. The setting is breezy and serene, overlooking a temple and a lush, undulating lawn – a rare sight in urban Seminyak.
Throughout lunch, Executive Chef Tomy Saputra presents age-old family recipes and childhood flavours along a long, communal dining table. Every dish honours local heritage, from the Sumatran beef short rib (Iga Bakar) slow-braised in tamarind and soy, to the aromatic Jukut Kelor Mesanten, which is simmered inside a young coconut. It all ends with a live carving of Es Campur, served tableside from a vintage ice shaver.
Psst – pair your lunch with the jamu-inspired cocktails for the full experience, and read our full review of The Long Table here.
Best for: A refined yet cultural Indonesian dining experience in the heart of Seminyak.
Must-try dishes: Iga Bakar, Tumis Jantung Pisang, Jukut Kelor Mesanten, Es Campur.
How much: IDR 600,000++ per person (IDR 975,000 with drinks pairing).
Where: Jl Petitenget, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 11am – 9pm.
6. Bara Bistro
A new restaurant in the heart of Seminyak, serving flame-grilled Indonesian comfort food.

When I first heard there was a new restaurant in Seminyak serving modern, flame-grilled Indonesian food, I booked a table faster than you can say sambal pecak. Bara Bistro is all about fire, spice and soul, reminding you just how good Indonesian food can be. It sits on Jl Kayu Aya, and you can’t miss it, with its bistro glow and a captivating smokiness that draws you in from the street.
Head Chef Cliff Benardo Wijaya helms the open kitchen, and he’s Le Cordon Bleu-trained, meaning he brings his expertise and heritage to every dish. The Grilled Chicken Maryland is familiar but elevated, with soto spices and a lush coconut crema. Then there’s the grilled pork cutlet, glazed in a West Javanese-style marinade with maranggi spices.
And please, save room for dessert, because the Banana Ganache “Piscok” is a playful take on the classic chocolate-banana street snack, only this one is richer, smoother and utterly addictive. If you’re dining with friends, go for Makan Tengah — it’s a chef’s selection of sharing plates that nod to Indonesia’s communal dining traditions.
Best for: Elevated Indonesian flavours with smoke, soul and style.
Must-try dishes: Grilled Chicken Maryland “Soto”, Grilled Pork Cutlet, Banana Ganache “Piscok”.
How much: Mains from IDR 90,000++.
Good to know: This is one of Seminyak’s newest restaurants, so try it now to catch the hype!
Local tip: Try the Makan Tengah menu if you’re sharing with friends.
Where: Jl Kayu Aya No. 6, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 4pm – 11pm.
THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN SEMINYAK WITH POOL & BEACH VIEWS
7. La Lucciola
Beachfront dining with timeless Italian plates and “old Bali” charm.

It’s rare to find somewhere as iconic as La Lucciola that still feels so authentic. It’s one of the few beachfront restaurants in Bali that doesn’t need to shout to be heard. In fact, there’s no Wi-Fi, no social media or any loud marketing. Just open-air dining and old-school service in a breezy pavilion, right by the beach. Even the walk to the restaurant is a treat. You wander past Petitenget Temple, over a cute little bridge, and then WOW, there it is. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s barely changed, which is exactly why I keep returning.
The Italian-style menu is straightforward but beautifully done. There’s grilled fish, some of the best pastas I’ve ever tried, and crisp salads for on the side. Even the olive oil and focaccia while you wait is delicious. Add one of the better wine lists on the island, and you quickly understand why this is one of the very best restaurants in Seminyak (and all of Bali).
Best for: A sunset dinner on the beach with “old Bali” charm.
Must-try dishes: Grilled Barramundi, Spaghetti Vongole Pasta, Italian Wine.
How much: Mains start from IDR 160,000++
Good to know: Reservations are limited; they mostly accept walk-ins unless you’re dining as a group.
Local tip: Arrive by 5pm to snag a seat in time for a sunset dinner. The upper deck at the front has the best view.
Where: Jl Kayu Aya, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 9am
8. Ijen
Indonesia’s first zero-waste restaurant serving fresh, fire-grilled local seafood.

I know what you’re thinking: surely a restaurant inside one of Bali’s most popular beach clubs can’t be good? Well, you would be very mistaken. Potato Head is no longer the wild thumping party place it used to be. These days, it’s an eco-friendly paradise that pays homage to Bali’s local culture, community, and the environment. It’s also home to Ijen, Indonesia’s first ever zero-waste restaurant.
The seafood here really took me by surprise. I knew it was going to be fresh, but not this fresh. It’s caught locally using a hand-reeling process, then grilled over an open fire. Think giant chargrilled prawns, a cold tuna crudo and whole market fish that you pick from the counter then lather with their homemade sambal.
As for that zero waste ethos? The menus are all printed on sustainably-harvested paper and recycled truck tyres, the furniture is made from foam offcuts, and the floor is a mix of upcycled plates and glass. It’s a remarkable space, with equally exceptional dishes.
Best for: An eco-friendly taste of local seafood, in one of Bali’s most progressive beachfront venues.
Must-try dishes: Tuna Crudo, Jumbo Prawns, Whole Market Fish.
How much: Mains start from IDR 85,000++
Good to know: There are plenty of pescatarian and vegetarian-friendly dishes here.
Local tip: Come early for a sunset dinner (the restaurant is set back slightly), then stay for the beach club vibes after dark.
Where: Jl Petitenget No. 51B, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 12pm – 10pm
9. Saltlick
An upscale steakhouse featuring dry-aged beef, fine wines and sunset views.

This is the latest addition to KU DE TA. Saltlick is the newly opened steakhouse that sits pretty above this OG Bali beach club. Chef Jeremy Hunt sources the finest meats and farm-to-table ingredients for this one, incorporating house-drying, ageing and chargrilling techniques into every dish. It’s an immersive dining experience, complemented by fine wines, signature cocktails and an intimate ambience.
I headed in early for sunset on the west-facing balcony, where I started with beef tongue fritters and wood-fired scallops. Next, I slowly moved onto the 21-day dry-aged porterhouse Black Angus, which I paired with fire-roasted veggie skewers, a sweet corn brûlée, and Saltlick’s Smoky Margarita. This place is perfect for a smoking hot dinner date.
Best for: A fancy dinner or date night with dry-aged steaks with premium wine.
Must-try dishes: Beef & Bone Marrow Tartare, 31-day Aged Porterhouse Black Angus, Striploin Craft Wagyu.
Good to know: This signature steakhouse is located above KU DE TA beach club (on the second floor).
Local tip: The west-facing balcony makes this a top spot for sunset.
How much: Mains start from IDR 230,000++
Where: Jl Kayu Aya No. 9, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 5pm
10. SugarSand
Beachside pool club with Japanese-inspired cuisine, creative cocktails and rooftop sunsets.

Standing tall on the Seminyak beachfront you’ll find SugarSand. It’s often slated as a beach club, but in fact, it’s more of a restaurant and bar, plus it’s actually set back from the sand, meaning you can wear your heels to this one.
The menu leans Japanese (it used to echo a modern izakaya), but these days, the menu has evolved to also feature more coastal cuisine, like scallops, tacos and roasted chicken. You’ll still get to graze on sushi, salmon tartare and those famous SugarSand staples, but this new approach feels more grown up, and a perfect companion to its classic cocktails, tropical aesthetics and the nightly Seminyak sunset.
Best for: Sunset cocktails and poolside dining along the quieter end of Seminyak Beach.
Must-try dishes: Miso Scallops, Salmon Tartare, Kiwami Wagyu Steak.
How much: Mains start from IDR 125,000++
Good to know: SugarSand is the signature restaurant at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach.
Local tip: At sunset, head upstairs to the second floor for an elevated view over Seminyak Beach.
Where: Jl Double-Six, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 7am – 11pm
THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN SEMINYAK FOR DATE NIGHT
11. Sangsaka
Intimate fine dining with wood-fired Indonesian dishes and rare spices.

I’ve eaten at Sangsaka on a few occasions now, but it only took one visit to know this is the best restaurant in Seminyak. To find Sangsaka, you’ll need to stray from the main Petitenget strip, as it’s located on one of Seminyak’s lesser-known side streets. The space is small, warm, and intimate, which is all part of the charm.
The kitchen leans heavily on wood-fired ovens, native Indonesian spices and rare regional ingredients. But the real magic can be found in the tasting menus, which showcase home Javanese recipes – dishes you’d usually find on a warung table in the depths of Bandung. In fact, Sangsaka’s menus have made such an impression, that a number of award-winning chefs name Sangsaka as the best restaurant in Bali.
Best for: Intimate Indonesian fine dining in a romantic yet unassuming setting.
Must-try dishes: Ikan Pesmol, Sate Kelapa, the seasonal tasting menu.
How much: Mains start from IDR 130,000++
Good to know: The chef behind the menu is Kieran Morland of 10 Greek Street fame, and he’s also the owner of Luma in Canggu.
Local tip: Few people know, but hidden above Sangsaka is Di Atas – a cool speakeasy perfect for after-dinner drinks.
Where: Jl Raya Pakung Sari No.100, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 5.30pm – 11pm
12. Barbacoa
Latin American grillhouse with smoky flavours, cocktails and warehouse vibes.

Food-savvy folk flock to Barbacoa for good reason. This gourmet Latin American restaurant is quite literally smoking hot, complete with cocktails and gorgeous interiors in a sleek warehouse space. The food here is the work of Executive Chef Nic Philip, and his dishes are fuelled by fire, charcoal and smoke, cooked over an Asado pit, wood-fired oven. I recommend starting with some raw plates and sides, then move on to the meaty mains and desserts. Everything is designed to share, and you’ll want to fill up that table.
Best for: Charcoal-grilled meats with Latin American spices.
Must-try dishes: Woodfired Papuan Pacific Oyster, Pulled Lamb Shoulder, Black Angus Sirloin.
How much: Mains start from IDR 180,000++
Good to know: This one’s not for vegetarians – there’s a whole pig roasting on the fire as you walk in…
Local tip: Don’t miss the cocktails here – it’s where I first fell in love with Whiskey Sours!
Where: Jl Petitenget No. 14, Seminyak
Opening hours: Daily from 5.30pm
13. Motel Mexicola
Lively Mexican restaurant with bold flavours and tequila-fuelled fiestas.

You probably already know Motel Mexicola as one of Seminyak’s wildest party places. But arrive early before the late-night crowds, and you’ll find something very different. Behind its explosive interiors is a kitchen that’s been slinging seriously good, traditional Mexican food for years. From hand-pressed masa tortillas to the fire-kissed tacos and the best aguachile this side of the equator, the food here is the unsung hero.
I recommend ordering a table-full of plates to share, starting with fresh guac and a selection of tostadas. Then, it’s all about those masa tortillas. Try the Al Pastor Tacos, Tostada Pollo, and the oozy Quesadilla topped with Mexican chorizo. And if you’re out for the night, stick around for one of the best parties in town. Read my full review of Motel Mexicola here.
Best for: Authentic Mexican food and legendary margaritas in a cool, colourful setting.
Must-try dishes: Al Pastor Tacos, Aguachile Mixto, Los Pollos Hermanos.
How much: Large plates start from IDR 160,000++
Good to know: For a real taste of Mexicola’s magic, there’s a Feed Me menu which is great for sharing.
Local tip: Arrive early if you’re after quieter dinner vibes, or stay ’til late to catch the iconic Mexicola party.
Where: Jl Kayu Jati No. 9x, Petitenget
Opening hours: Daily from 11am

THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN SEMINYAK FOR FINE DINING
14. Mauri
Award-winning Italian fine dining with seasonal tasting menus.

This is Italian food like you’ve never seen it before. Award-winning Chef Maurizio Bombini leads the kitchen at Mauri, taking Italian flavours to exceptional new heights. He uses Bali’s finest local ingredients (many are grown in the restaurant’s own rooftop hydroponic garden) to create Mauri’s seasonal tasting menu. It’s a true masterpiece.
Watching the chefs in the glass-enclosed kitchen is a real treat too, and you can even sit at the five-seat chef’s counter for an intimate dining experience. Before dinner, I like to wander up to the mezzanine bar for an Aperitivo-style cocktail and bites first. It’s the best perch to overlook the elegant restaurant, and the perfect way to begin such a memorable fine dining dinner in Bali.
Best for: An elegant, fine dining dinner with an optional degustation menu.
Must-try dishes: Tartare di Capesante, Parmigiano Ravioli, Filetto di Manzo
How much: Mains start from IDR 290,000++
Good to know: There’s an à la carte menu or a degustation menu to choose from.
Local tip: Swing by on a weekend for one of the best Sunday brunches in Bali.
Where: Jl Petitenget No. 100, Seminyak
Opening hours: Friday to Sunday, 12pm – 3pm for lunch, or daily from 6.30pm for dinner.
15. The Restaurant
Romantic fine dining with Michelin-level cuisine overlooking Seminyak Beach.

This multi-award-winning dining destination is located on the beachfront of The Legian Bali, meaning you’re guaranteed a truly sublime date night. With its ultra-fine-dining cuisine from a Michelin-starred chef, together with seamless service and the most gorgeous brasserie-style designs (all overlooking the infinity pool), The Restaurant is a real showstopper.
The menu is Asian influenced using the finest quality local ingredients, all given a European twist thanks to an infusion of French cooking techniques. Seasonal dishes mean the menu is ever-changing, perfectly paired with specially chosen wines from the in-house Sommelier. All of this is then backdropped by the postcard-perfect Seminyak Beach. A simply breathtaking date night destination.
