From beachfront breakfasts to all-day brunches, these are the best cafes in Sanur, Bali – tried and tested by a local.
Unlike Bali’s trendier neighbourhoods where everyone is rushing between the next beach club and boutique, Sanur does things differently. It’s calmer and effortlessly charming – and its cafe scene reflects exactly that. Most Sanur cafes are family-friendly, with classic coffee and daytime menus that suit a wide range of tastes. And forget cafe-hopping for quick Instagram shots. Breakfast in Sanur is about a lazy brunch and a coffee catch up with long conversation.
So, whether you’re searching for your morning latte, a nourishing smoothie bowl after a sunrise walk, or a beachfront brunch with your toes in the sand, these are the best cafes in Sanur that I always return to.
Why trust this guide
I’m Vici, and as a Sanur local (since 2006) and a die-hard foodie, I’m always looking for the best new cafes and dining out at my long-standing favourites around the neighbourhood. With so many places to eat in Sanur, I’ve narrowed it down to the east side of the neighbourhood (the beach side) where most travellers stay. These cafes are either beachfront or easily accessible on foot, or a short GoJek ride from Sanur’s top hotels. I’ve personally tried, tested and returned to all of them, of course. Selamat makan!

2. Sala Bistro
A popular Sanur brunch cafe serving all-day breakfast, coffee, healthy dishes, and a remote-work space.

A Sanur favourite since 2017, Sala Bistro is a must-visit cafe on Sanur’s buzzing “eat” street. I’ve grazed through the breakfast and lunch menus multiple times (and dinner, too!), which come packed with health-conscious international dishes, crafted from the freshest local ingredients. The Egg Dip was a unique take on the classic “egg and soldiers” – it’s served in a little glass jar, with truffle potato puree at the bottom, gooey sous vide egg on top and toasted sourdough to mop up all the goodness. I always pair it with a jamu-style Golden Turmeric juice and a Seniman coffee.
Best for: All-day brunch, remote working, wholesome breakfasts.
Must-try breakfast plates: Egg Dip, Chili Scramble Egg, Protein Bowl.
Good to know: There’s another Sala Bistro cafe in Ubud.
Local tip: The top floor is an air-conditioned hideaway from the crowds, while downstairs is where you want to be if you want a slight buzz and street-watching.

4. Daily Baguette
Authentic French bakery in Sanur for buttery croissants, artisan pastries, quality coffee, and brunch.

Some mornings call for a smoothie bowl. Other mornings call for a flaky, buttery croissant and a good cup of coffee. For the latter, I go straight to Daily Baguette. This charming French bakery brings a little slice of Paris to Sanur, serving artisanal breads, viennoiseries, cakes, sandwiches, and pastries made using authentic French techniques and ingredients. The bakery was founded by a couple who spent years working in a Parisian boulangerie, and their passion for traditional French baking shines through in every baked good.
Best for: French pastries, grab-and-go coffee, classic Parisian cafe brunches.
Must-try breakfast plates: Crème Brûlée Croissant, Butter & Sugar Crêpe, Oeufs à la Coque.
Good to know: There are multiple Daily Baguette outlets – two in Sanur, one in Ubud and another near Renon.
Local tip: I prefer the street-side, standalone Sanur cafe – the interior is more spacious, with some tables on the patio.

A spacious all-day Sanur cafe for family brunches, coffee dates, remote working, and international dishes.

Opened in 2020 with the support of the local community, Over The Moon has grown into one of Sanur’s favourite all-day dining spots, known for its welcoming atmosphere, extensive menu, and spacious indoor and outdoor seating. The interiors are bright, stylish, and filled with thoughtful design details. The menu covers everything from breakfast classics and colourful smoothie bowls to salads, Asian dishes, cakes, and cocktails, so it works just as well for a morning Kintamani’s Arca coffee as it does for a relaxed lunch, Happy Hour or pizza dinner.
Best for: Remote workers, coffee, family brunches.
Must-try breakfast plates: American Breakfast, French Toast, Breakfast Croissant.

An iconic Sanur breakfast cafe serving Indonesian classics, tropical brunches, and all-day dining.

Ask anyone who has been coming to Sanur for years where to find a great breakfast, and chances are Cafe Batu Jimbar will be one of the first names they mention. A true institution in the neighbourhood, this iconic cafe has been serving locals, expats, and travellers since the 1990s, and it remains a much-loved meeting point in the heart of Sanur. The setting is part of its enduring appeal. It’s an open-air tropical pavilion surrounded by lush gardens, antique Balinese details, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger over another coffee. The extensive menu means there’s something for everyone, from wholesome breakfast bowls to Indonesian comfort food.

For a little taste of the Nordic lifestyle in Bali, make your way to Cafe Smörgås. This charming Scandinavian cafe brings a fresh approach to Sanur’s brunch scene, combining minimalist design, wholesome dishes, and a cosy atmosphere that encourages long, slow mornings. While the breakfast menu is kid-friendly with many familiar brunch staples, I say it’s the lunch and dinner menu that sums up what this Sanur cafe is all about. It takes inspiration from Scandinavian cuisine while embracing Bali’s abundance of fresh local ingredients. Think Skagen, Kalops, lax and pickled Herring, too!
Best for: Swedish lunch with Bali influences, family breakfast with kid-friendly options.
Must-try breakfast plates: The Works!, Lax Sandwich, Swedish Meatballs.
Good to know: The café’s cosy indoor space and shaded outdoor patio seating make it a lovely option whatever the time of day.

Located within the beautiful Maya Sanur Resort & Spa, Rue combines the polished service of a five-star resort with a hip street-side cafe atmosphere. 12. Huma Beach by Goldmine
A beachfront Sanur cafe for sunrise coffee, ocean-view breakfasts, fresh dishes, and relaxed dining.

Located on Bangsal Beach (Sanur’s newest coastal strip full of beachfront cafes), Huma Beach brings a touch of style to the neighbourhood. With its contemporary beach club-inspired design, ocean views, and relaxed atmosphere, this is where I stop for a break after my sunrise jog. The menu combines international favourites with local influences, featuring everything from colourful breakfast dishes and fresh salads to sharing plates, cocktails, and ocean-inspired cuisine. The presentation is beautiful, the setting is effortless, and the atmosphere transitions seamlessly from a quiet sunrise cafe into a lively lunch spot.

Bonus: Best coffee in Sanur
If (like me) you’ve been a Sanur regular for 10+ years, you’d know this little coffee hut located right by the busy Jalan Danau Tamblingan. Kopi Kiosk isn’t well-known by tourists. Rather, it’s typically flocked by long-term locals and expats, purely because of how good the coffee is and its “no fuss, no frills” vibe. Forget fancy Western-style cafes: Kopi Kiosk is a little counter, with just two long benches surrounding it. You can sit between strangers, make new friends, and chat to the barista who’s busy brewing coffee right in front of you – just like the good ol’ Bali days.
