More than two years after The World of Studio Ghibli took over the ArtScience Museum, the Japanese animation studio is returning to our shores with a brand-new immersive exhibition. What is The Story of Studio Ghibli?
Making its world premiere in Singapore, The Story of Studio Ghibli invites fans to explore nearly 3,500 square metres of immersive experiences inspired by iconic Studio Ghibli films. Touted as the largest presentation of the exhibition to date, The Story of Studio Ghibli will run from 18 December 2026 to 4 July 2027 at Gardens by the Bay’s West Lawn.
Visitors can step into immersive worlds inspired by animated features such as Princess Mononoke, The Boy and the Heron, and Howl’s Moving Castle, among others. Keep an eye out for the Spirited Away section, which features an eight-metre-tall, three-dimensional recreation of the film’s bathhouse. Watch Kamaji’s arms move among the countless drawers as animatronic details bring the room to life.
What else to look out for? You can stand beside Totoro while waiting for the Catbus, encounter the majestic Ohmu from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and push open the wooden door to Guchokipanya bakery before embarking on your own delivery journey, just like Kiki.
Beyond recreated film scenes, visitors can also engage more deeply with the stories, rediscovering the ideas and values that continue to resonate across cultures and generations.
