Calling all eco-beauty warriors! Here's a guide to the best organic makeup and skincare stores in Singapore for all your natural primping needs
Organic food and ethical fashion have come a long way in Singapore, and now it’s time for natural makeup and skin care products (and those made with super ingredients) to steal the spotlight. From fruit-dyed lipsticks to vegan foundation, these organic beauty brands – locally made and now available in Singapore – are the goods; think all-natural, toxin-free cosmetics and skincare that isn’t just better for your skin, but the planet too.
Lu Ming Tang
Move aside Japanese and K-beauty brands, China’s spilling the tea on its skincare game quite literally. Cue Lu Ming Tang, the latest tea-infused skincare line that features the highest quality (they call it “imperial grade”) Chinese tea in all products. Founded by French femme, Marie Amiand, this East-meets-West brand’s line of products deeply detoxifies stressed skin and visibly counteracts damage from pollution and environmental assaults. We’ve been spritzing the fragrant and uplifting Wulong Tea Dew facial mist to keep us feeling fresh during the mid-afternoon slump.

Is your makeup stash piling up with unnecessary products? Step on the brakes and take things slow with Ania Skincare, a brand that helps declutter your regime to provide only the essentials. The line of masks, moisturisers, serums and toners are made with clean formulations of safe synthetics and botanicals, along with potent ingredients from untouched regions in Africa. A star product worth trying? The Rhassoul purifying “magic” mask that soothes and hydrates the skin in just five minutes, thanks to Moroccan rosewater and argan oil. Extra points for the informative cute illustrations on its Insta feed.

Skincare inspired by Peranakan beauty traditions? That’s a first! Yes, Pera Skincare blends western traditions with ingredients used in Peranakan culture; say bedak sejuk, (a powder made from rice and pandan leaf) that has cooling properties and prevents blemishes, leaving a flawless complexion, over time. Yup, no parabens, artificial colouring or phthalates here. Here’s a nice touch: you’ll also find familiar ingredients like liquorice root, ginseng extract and jojoba, along with antioxidants from celery, tomato, carrot, turnip, rice and clove flower in most products across this range.

You’ve probably heard of Jurlique; this Australian brand has been around for a while but is pegged to hit cult status here in Singapore with the reformulation of its anti-ageing Herbal Recovery Signature range. Key botanical ingredients like Viola tricolour, yarrow flower and red clover are grown in an organic farm in Adelaide. Psst… the Jurlique Farm uses clean energy thanks to solar panels and has sent zero waste to landfill since 2016. Even the compost used to enrich the soil is made from plants grown at the farm – needless to say, it doesn’t get any more organic than this.

Trust Kikiko Organics to raise the bar in achieving tropical radiance. This coconut oil-based range also draws on the natural benefits of sericin, which moisturises and heals the skin. The range includes shampoo, face mist and handmade soaps using the cold process method so they won’t dry out your skin. If we ever get our hands on something (these babies sell out fast), it would be the coco bar sericin with rice milk. Plus, this packaging is almost worthy of framing.

It’s nice to know that founder of Charis (pronounced Care-iss) Naturals, Michelle, is on our team when it comes to the battle for good skin. Faced with eczema problems as a teen, she’s done intensive research and studying of the dos and don’ts of organic products. She’s also a huge fan of the store’s Kahina products, a brand based on the wonders of Argan Oil (also known as Moroccan liquid gold). And we’d have to agree, just a few drops of the 100% Argan Oil onto our dry, frizzy hair and poof! Magically smooth hair the next morning.

Created out of a mother’s love for her son, Balm Kitchen was literally made in the kitchen, where founder Teresa Foo spent days on end experimenting with formulations. Her then three-year-old son had atopic dermatitis, and she needed a more natural replacement for his steroid creams. The botanical-based, cruelty-free skincare brand incorporates ingredients native to Asia like green tea extracts, gac fruit oil and perilla seed oil. For a more natural approach to combating the ravaging effects of urban life, the brand recently released an Anti-Pollution Capsule collection, which contains a cleansing water, balm and mask, scrub, essence and facial oil serum.
