Add these top food stalls to your list when you visit this year’s edition of the Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar.
Bazaars are back in full swing after the pandemic lull, and we’re not complaining. Down at Kampong Glam, 86 stalls have set up shop to hawk mouthwatering dishes and refreshing drinks from now till 16 April. Titled Raikan Cahaya Ramadan 2023 (meaning ‘celebrate the light’), this edition of Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar opens from noon to 11pm daily, and will also feature aerial light shows and dazzling projections on weekends between 8pm to 10pm. We’ve scoured the area to find the best bites so you know where to go.
Best food stalls at Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar
1. Picanhas

You can’t miss this food truck – the philly steak sandwiches are everything. Fill up on pulled picanhas slathered in chilli con carne, sauteed onions, and nacho cheese sauce in a bun for $14. Or, splurge on a $18 plate of steak and mash for a hundred grams of perfectly tender picanhas steak on a bed of garlic mash and savoury meringue.

2. La Birria by Barista’s Palace

If there’s just one thing you need to try at Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar, it’s the Mexican birria at this stall. We had to wait 15 minutes for our order because it was so popular. Ours was served in loaded taco shells with gravy on the side, and it was savoury, juicy perfection. You can also get yours in a quesadilla or with cheese fries if tacos aren’t your jam.

3. Ramly Burger

This pasar malam staple is a must-have if you’re craving a classic treat. Get your ramly burgers served with beef, chicken, or fish patties and drowned in sauces. It’s one for $4.50, and three for $12. The ones we had were incredibly tender and delightfully messy – just the way they should be!

4. Banh Banh

Love a good banh mi stuffed to the brim? So do we. Pop around the corner of the bazaar and you’ll find the folks at Banh Banh grilling up a storm. Its sandwiches are crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and filled with delicious, smoky, grilled meat. Take your pick from marinated lamb, lemongrass chicken, and mackerel otak otak. Get yours in a bowl of buttered pilaf rice if you prefer, or have it alongside small bites like soy chicken balls and prawn otah.
5. Broti

If you like your milk tea rich and creamy, quench your thirst with a giant cup from Broti. It offers its usual signature flavoured milk teas such as Thai milk tea, gula melaka, and lavender. But if you’re looking to try something different, give its Ramadan specials a shot. Think flavours like spiced pandan, orange summer twist, and grapefruit sparkler. We particularly loved the masala milk tea that reminded us strongly of chai latte.

6. Detako

Craving some Japanese-inspired bites? Detako has you covered. Pop over for delicious round balls of takoyaki covered generously with bonito flakes, wasabi mayo, and creamy mentaiko sauce. You can even get your own sushi bake set complete with seaweed wraps in flavours like mentaiko hotate and unagi.

7. Kream

Kream claims to serve the best coney dogs in all of Singapore, and it might just be right. Its selection of gourmet hot dogs are loaded with flavour, overflowing with dressings like mentaiko and nacho cheese. Our personal favourite has to be the flaming cheese rendang – we can’t stop thinking about that heavenly sauce.

Think flavours like watermelon milk, barley mint, cherry soda and milk, and pandan milk tea. No bazaar experience is complete without indulging in some deep-fried delights. Don’t miss the opportunity to try Bo-Geh’s durian goreng for $10. These delectable, golden fried balls are filled with luscious, creamy durian. If you’re not a fan of the king of fruits, it also serves the classic pisang goreng. Wash it all down with a refreshing butterbeer.
