Singapore’s got talent. These noteworthy calligraphy and hand lettering artists are worth the follow.
Remember writing? That thing we did before banging on a keyboard became a thing. If we’re honest, sometimes we find it hard to decipher our own scribbles, so you can see why we’re all heart-eyes for these super amazing hand lettering and calligraphy artists.
#HeadsUp: Is this your type of hobby? Just so you know, all of them hold regular workshops and sell their prints on their e-shops.
Joanne Lim of The Letter J Supply
Joanne discovered her love and incredible talent for calligraphy while vacationing in New York. A trained graphic designer, she began moving away from the computer to go old school with a pen and brush in hand. Her style is modern, confident, free and downright stunning (just check out her work above). The talent is strong with this one.
Mye De Leon
Mye began lettering as a 10-year-old back in the Philippines. Her work is vibrant, varied and puts an instant smile on our face. She has mastered many letter styles, authored a book titled Mastering Hand-Lettering and has even worked on a campaign for Pinterest – the prettiest internet black hole there is.
Elizabeth K of Indikoh
Her feed is filled with lovely brush calligraphy, hand-lettering and wait for it… embroidered typography. Apart from paper, she letters her signature breezy style on all sorts of surfaces like marble, acrylic and cloth. She even has an Etsy shop where you can snap up original monochromatic quotes or embroidered letters.
Nicole Chew of Little Inked Things
Love a classic typeface? Nicole’s feed will have you glued. For an extra sprinkling of old world charm to her vintage lettering, she watercolour flowers and leaves. We first saw her effortlessly putting pen to paper at an Ikea event. Her work is distinctly feminine with an English garden tea party vibe.
Ewejin Tee
Ewejin worked as a product designer for agencies and tech companies before turning his love for lettering into a full-time job. He’s experimentative, passionate and immensely talented, having worked with brands like Hugo Boss and Bang & Olufsen. From signboards and phone covers to hardcover suitcases and T-shirts – he’ll hand-pen it all.
