Using plant-based, paraben-free products, Caring Skin’s signature treatment at its facial spa, the Nano Perfector, promises a baby-smooth complexion.
When stress levels hit an all-time high, I’m especially susceptible to sleepless nights and a slew of skin-related ailments that can range from an eczema flare-up to a sudden bout of acne. As such, I’ve always been cautious about the type of products I have in my daily regime, and even more so for facials – one experience left me with a distressing acne breakout across my forehead a few years back.
So yes, I’m usually one to tread carefully when selecting skin care treatments to invest in, and needless to say, I was a little apprehensive before my appointment at Caring Skin, a home-grown spa located on the seventh floor of International Building in the heart of Orchard Road. I was greeted by an affable esthetician, who sat me down for my very first skin analysis. Thankfully, we discovered nothing out of the ordinary – apart from the lack of moisture, minor pigmentation and slightly large pores, there wasn’t a cause for alarm. Phew!
Due to the dryness of my complexion, my skin tends to flake after prolonged exposure in air-conditioned environments, or become red and blotchy in our warm and humid weather. After checking on my skin’s condition, I was recommended the 90-minute Nano Perfector, a signature Caring Skin treatment that is said to help reduce the appearance of skin imperfections while giving the complexion a deep hydrating boost. The esthetician started on a deep cleanse that includes the application of a citric acid exfoliant to help remove the buildup of dead skin cells – I was warned of a “biting sensation” before application, but I didn’t feel any discomfort at all.
Next came the icy cold thermal spring water which is said to help tighten pores and contract facial muscles, laying the groundwork for an application of a special serum infused with vitamins A, C and E, minerals that supposedly trigger cell renewal for a youthful appearance, and glycolic acid to help lighten blemishes and brighten an uneven skin tone.
The esthetician then started on the much-dreaded extraction process – she was both deft and gentle, so my fear of walking away with inflamed skin was unfounded. She then applied a layer of hydrating booster with a final face massage, before ending with a soothing chamomile mask to de-stress the skin.
I rounded off my session with another post-facial consultation to check on the condition of my complexion. In the two weeks after my treatment, my skin felt smoother, making the application of makeup a lot easier (no more flaking!). Sans makeup, I found that there was a glow to my complexion and the deep-moisturising benefits of the facial actually worked – no more discomfort after cleansing, caused by the tightness of my skin. What remains to be seen is how this treatment actually encourages collagen production, so for optimal results, you might need to schedule a couple of follow-up sessions. Still, Caring Skin’s friendly, customer-focused service (their treatments are tweaked according to customer feedback) and meticulous facials are huge pluses in my book. Will I be back? Hell, yeah.
