With the constant change in the weather in the city, my hair was fluctuating between oily, to dry and was even damaged. So, I was more than happy to see if Herbal Legend could be the remedy
We at Honeycombers Hong Kong are not shy when it comes to trying out the latest in beauty and wellness treatments including sensory deprivation pods, IV treatments, CryoSpa, DNA Fit and facial acupuncture. With the unpredictable weather in the city, ranging from intense humidity and cold windy rain, my hair was fluctuating between oily and dried out, so when Herbal Legend, a made in Hong Kong, Chinese herbology shampoo and conditioner found its way onto my desk, I was eager to see if it really could help.
Here’s my problem
Coming from a sunburnt country, that is renowned for its dry hot land, Hong Kong’s (sometimes unbearable) humidity is a completely different playing field when it comes to treating my hair. In Australia, I would wash and condition my hair every other day hurling on heavy amounts of product. And regardless of the brand I was using at the time, my hair did fair quite well – it wasn’t perfect, but it was clean, looked presentable and when I was lucky – sometimes it was silky smooth.
After living in Hong Kong for a few years, I soon realised the method that I had been so used to in Australia was no longer applicable. It was no longer an option to not wash my hair every other day in the summer, and because I was washing it everyday (don’t tell Johnathan Van Ness!), my hair was becoming dry and washed out. When it came to the winter months in Hong Kong, I would return to my usual every other day wash routine, but the cold and at times, painful winds would also do damage to my hair.
I tried some Chinese herbology on my hair from Herbal Legend
I’ll be honest, I’m skeptical when it comes to Chinese medicine. But at the same time, I’ve always been a curious person, and… it’s always gotten the best of me (this is sometimes not a good quality). Herbal Legend creates herbal hair care products that are inspired by Chinese herbology that also conform to EU cosmetic standards, and recently I’ve been using their Ginseng & Green Tea and their Fleece Flower Herbal shampoo and conditioners.
The Ginseng & Green Tea Herbal shampoo and conditioner contains ginseng root extract which is used to promote healthy hair growth. During the two weeks of using the products my hair did become softer, smoother, had less knots and I did notice that it had grown significantly and more rapidly (but honestly, I’m not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me because I don’t think any product out there can be that miraculous when it comes to promoting hair growth, can it?).
The Fleece Flower Herbal shampoo and conditioner contains radix polygoni multiflori root extract which is a powerful antioxidant that helps darken hair and reduce signs of greying. My hair has always been jet black, and it was difficult to test this and see whether this was true. But, again during the two weeks of using the Fleece Flower Herbal shampoo and conditioner duo my hair was noticeably healthier, silker and even had a natural shine.
Would I continue using it?
Yes. Overall, the two shampoo and conditioner duos have definitely helped in terms of reducing oiliness, and repairing my hair, especially my ends. The people at Herbal Legend have found a formula that has left my hair silky smooth and has given it a natural shine. Whether they’ve also found the secret to promoting hair growth as well, I’m still unsure, and the only way to find out is to continue using it.
