Get your skin revitalised, brightened and energised naturally with some facial acupuncture at Eu Yan Sang.
We at Honeycombers Hong Kong love trying the latest in wellness treatments, from energy giving massages at LUSH Spa, sensory deprivation pods at Float On Hong Kong to hydrating IV treatments at REVIV Hong Kong; we’re always happy to give things a go. Recently Eu Yan Sang, a globally renowned Chinese medicine clinic, invited us to try out their facial acupuncture treatment, a natural and non-surgical way to clear up acne, even skin tone, brighten skin and fight against wrinkles. But is it worth the hype?
Natural Facial Acupuncture at Eu Yan Sang
With branches across Hong Kong, Eu Yan Sang is a Chinese medicine centre that provides consultations, checkups, treatments and herbal medicinal teas. We headed to the clinic to try their natural facial acupuncture treatment that uses fine needles to stimulate internal organs from certain acupoints on the face.
Like at any other doctor’s checkup, you will need to fill out a form on your first visit detailing information on your medical history. After completing your form, you will receive a consultation with your Chinese medicine doctor. My doctor was incredibly friendly, welcoming and open, making it very easy to discuss uncomfortable topics like your digestive functions and sexual history, and offered helpful advice on any questions I had.
In the brightly-lit treatment rooms, lie down on the table and prepare to have fine needles inserted into your face. Depending on your skin’s needs, the doctor will stimulate certain acupoints on the face. Though this may all sound daunting, it will be near painless, and at most you will feel a gently prick.
The only times I had felt a gently sting were near my nose regions, other than that, I did not feel the fine several needles that entered my forehead, the sides of my face and my chin. These acupoints aim to resolve skin issues like wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, dull skin, dark circles under the eyes and overall brightens and adds radiance to one’s facial complexion.
My doctor left me to relax for thirty minutes after the needles were placed into my skin. I lay there relaxed; feeling warm and comfortable with the heating matt beneath me. She later returned to remove the needles one by one, which I barely noticed.
How did it feel after?
I definitely felt more relaxed and at ease after the treatment at Eu Yan Sang. I did not see a significant difference in my skin but there was a gently increase of brightness in my complexion. With acupuncture treatments, it does require repeated visits to see extremely noticeable results. For those who want to try a more nature method of resolving some skin concerns, it’s definitely worth a try.
