Foodies, get your forks ready for a feast
First up, the Epicurean Market returns to Marina Bay Sands from 11 to 13 August. Featuring a complete gamut of top international restaurants, wineries and leading brands, this is where you’ll get up close and personal with award-winning chefs and gourmet produce.
While we can’t resist a fancy feast, there’s nothing like good ol’ street food. At RWS Street Eats (12 to 20 August), be prepared to eat your way through over 20 hawker stalls, all located at Resorts World Sentosa’s Malaysian Food Street. The event boasts a lineup of hawkers specially flown in from around the region – load up on Thai dishes from Chatuchak’s popular Foon Ta Lop eatery, Indonesian cuisine from Jakarta’s Nona Manis, Vietnamese fare by Nha Hang Viet from Ho Chi Minh City, and more. Best of all, admission to the event is free!
Psst…HSBC Advance credit cardholders enjoy an early bird price of $24 (U.P. $30) and bundle specials at $27 (U.P. $30) on tickets to RWS Street Eats. Some perks they will receive includes eight event food vouchers, a complimentary can of Coca Cola® (with an option to top up $4 for a Tiger Beer) and gift vouchers from Naiise, OSIM and SodaStream worth more than $40. Take a head-banging trip down memory lane with these rock legends
Yes, you heard that right – The Foo Fighters are actually performing at the National Stadium on 26 August. And why is this a big deal, you say? Well, they are not only one of the biggest American alternative rock bands, the group last performed in Singapore over 20 years ago, and this upcoming showcase follows a cancelled show at the Padang in 2012.
Party to spectacular NDP fireworks in Marina Bay
If you’ve missed your chance to snag those coveted National Day Parade tickets, there’s still hope! The celebration returns to the Marina Bay Floating Platform on 9 August and revellers can view the fireworks from the rooftops of the surrounding bars and restaurants in the area. For the best places to eat and drink during National Day, check out this guide.
Make a reservation at this hot new American Southern restaurant
Making its Southeast Asian debut at Marina Bay Sands, The Bird hails all the way from Miami, where its flagship is based. Founder John Kunkel whips up a mouthwatering menu of classic Southern cuisine with recipes passed down from his grandmother – think chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and buttermilk biscuits. Trust us, a dinner there is worth every love handle you’ll get.
And if you’re hungry for more, why not make your way to one of the mall’s many celebrity restaurants? Better yet, HSBC Advance credit cardholders get 15% off the a la carte bill at Long Chim by David Thompson. Find out more here.
Get your indie music fix at Clockenflap in Hong Kong
Neon Lights may be taking a hiatus this year (boo!), but we’ll let you in on a little – albeit well-known – secret. Those familiar with the music festival would have spotted an overlap of acts with Hong Kong’s Clockenflap festival, which is happening from 17 to 19 November. With acclaimed acts like Massive Attack, Feist and The Dandy Warhol, we reckon you should make travel plans there, fast.
Good news for HSBC Advance credit cardholders: online hotel booking platform Expedia is offering an extra 10% discount on up to 50% off hotel bookings, when you pay with an HSBC credit card. With such affordable deals, just what are you waiting for? Find out more here.
Show your love for the arts
Two of Singapore’s biggest arts festivals, The Singapore International Festival of the Arts (SIFA) and the Singapore Night Festival, are bringing culture to the masses. One highlight of SIFA 2017 is Open Homes (5 to 20 August), where visitors can hear stories told by over 30 families and individuals, at various venues set in their own homes. Over at the Singapore Night Festival (18 to 26 August), spectators can once again expect to see live performances, light art installations and interactive activities all centred around Singapore’s art districts at Bras Basah and Bugis.
Cheer on monster trucks at the first-ever Monster Jam Singapore
Big is definitely better in our books, and getting us all revved up before the F1 season is the adrenaline-charged Monster Jam Singapore (19 August). This monster truck extravaganza brings together some of the world’s most famous machines such as the 11-time world champaign Max-D and the Grave Digger – these roaring beasts measure 3.5 metres in height and can do stunts at up to 100 mph. Don’t believe us? Then see for yourself!
