Get ready for a mind-blowing adventure at ArtScience Museum’s Mirror Mirror exhibition!
Ever wondered what goes on inside your head? No, I’m not talking about those midnight snack cravings. I mean the deep, complex, and sometimes chaotic world of your thoughts, memories, and dreams. Enter Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind, ArtScience Museum’s latest exhibition. In fact, calling it an exhibit is doing it a disservice – it’s like stepping into your consciousness, except with better lighting and fewer existential crises. Here’s a guide to making the most of your visit.
What is ArtScience Museum’s new exhibition about?
Let’s be honest: we all have that one friend who’s obsessed with those personality quizzes and “What type of (insert random item here) are you?” memes. Well, ArtScience Museum’s latest offering is like the ultimate personality test, but way more fun.

To be clear, this isn’t your typical walk-through-a-gallery-and-nod-thoughtfully kind of exhibition. Mirror Mirror takes you deep into the inner workings of the human mind with interactive installations that explore perception, memory, dreams, and even ego. Think dazzling light displays, lush soundscapes, and optical illusions that’ll make you question your reality – in a good way, of course.
Embark on a mind-bending journey: room by room
Eight themed rooms are waiting for you; each is a different chapter in the story of human consciousness. Here’s a sneak peek:
1. Doorways

Alright, decision time! Three coloured doors stand before you, each leading to a different starting point. Think of it like a “choose-your-own-adventure” game. Neuroscientific research suggests your brain makes decisions (up to 10 seconds) even before you’re consciously aware of it. Spooky, right? I say don’t overthink it and just go with your gut. Now let the adventure begin!
2. Memory Storage

How do we hold onto all those precious memories? This room, which reminds me of a set in a Britney Spears music video, explores just that. Even the background music is very Britney-esque! Anyway, back to the installation. Share your memories by scanning a QR code and adding a keyword most relatable to you. Watch as your word flashes across the room through a dazzling light display.
3. Open Window

Linked to Memory Storage, this installation features an AI-generated poem based on the collective memories shared previously. It’s a beautiful reflection of how our brains connect and organise information. This is a cool spot to snap photos of you looking pensively at the words on the screen. Yes girl, show them how intelligent you can be are!
4. Grey Matter

If you ask me, I’ll say this is the most straightforward, “exhibition-y” room, but don’t brush it off just yet. Here’s where you can learn how perception, memory, identity, and consciousness are interconnected. Visualise how neurons fire in your brain through artwork by local artist Genevieve Chua and educational interviews with four Singapore-based neuroscientists. Side note: the brain rug is cool and will look great in my room.
5. Moodscape

This dreamy room is filled with fog and ever-changing swirling colours. It’s like a mood ring on steroids. Relax on the swings and soak in the moody ambiance while exploring the science of perception. Did you know colours can affect your blood pressure and even body temperature? P.S. This installation might be overwhelming for some visitors. If that’s the case for you, keep calm and find the curator.
6. Forest of Echoes

“Oh, it’s another Britney Spears room!” I gleefully exclaimed as I was led into the space. Get lost in a mirrored maze with laser lights! Stand in the right spot, and you’ll see yourself reflected countless times. It’s the perfect spot for some serious self-reflection… and killer selfies, though you can probably hardly make out your face.
7. Brainstorm

Throw foam balls at a screen to create a unique collage of graphics! The more balls you throw, the more spectacular the images become. This installation mimics the magic of collaboration and brainstorming ideas. Oh, and heads up: it might just be the most physically taxing room. You’ve been warned!
8. Mirrors of Tomorrow

Who wants a virtual tarot reading? Well, you can get it here. Wave your hand to select a card and then collect the physical card as a keepsake with a personalised “reading” reflecting your journey through the exhibition. I was tempted to take the entire deck ‘cos the illustrations are just stunning… sorry, that’s my intrusive thought speaking.
Should you visit Mirror Mirror: Journey Into the Mind?

If you’re into cool interactive exhibits and mind-blowing illusions, ArtScience Museum’s Mirror Mirror is a must-visit. But this ain’t your typical boring science fair, folks. I’m talking non-ticketed talks, hands-on workshops, and cool demos led by real-life brain experts from the Society for Neuroscience and the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.
