Picasso Hair Studio

Located in the hip Haji Lane ‘hood is Picasso Hair Studio, which prides itself on “artistic hair styling”. Its tagline ain’t just another gimmick – aside from the salon’s art studio-inspired premises (think mirrors instead of canvases on easels and a giant paint-splattered mural at its forefront), clients with colouring work done leave with genuine masterpieces. Take a quick look through the colour gallery; gorgeous ombre colouring in pastels and striking rainbow colours are artfully done.
Picasso Hair Studio, 662 North Bridge Road, Singapore 188798, p. 6291 0691; Open Mon-Sun 11am-9pm.
Salon Infinity (with review!)

Having my hair coloured has always been a mixed bag for me. I usually stick to safe, natural-looking hair colour (to cover my white hairs) and most of the time, I end up with super dry post-treatment hair and an itchy scalp which I’ll try to calm down with various methods of deep conditioning home remedies – yep, not fun at all. On top of that, I’ve always been a sucker for drug store hair dyes and the quick fix they offer. Well, not anymore.
Salon Infinity uses Aveda products which are naturally derived (93%!) from organic botanicals meaning that your hair won’t be subjected to a chemical mess after every hair colour session. Aveda is also known for creating brilliant and vivid hair colours that do minimal damage to our tresses. I let the professionals take over and make the choice of hair colour for me: they picked a shade of violet brown. Panicky but accepting (isn’t violet, PURPLE???), I entrusted my hair to their deft hands.
I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of a strong, pungent smell of the hair dye. Instead I was greeted with a herbal, rosemary-like scent – the best thing, it was actually cooling on the scalp. There were bonuses on top of the hair colouring itself, like a nice hot cup of lemongrass tea, a shoulder massage, a pre-colouring oil treatment, all of which left me comfortable and ready for a snooze – which I did while they washed my hair.
Final verdict: violet brown turned out to be a pretty agreeable and natural-looking shade, less Pantone Colour of the Year and more healthy, vibrant, and music festival-ready hair.
