It has a cinema, state-of-the-art theatre, a fitness centre with a swimming pool and outdoor deck, an indoor cycling track and more
From iconic malls along Orchard Road to the recent crown jewel at Changi Airport, Singapore has no shortage of malls (shopping is our favourite pastime after all!). Funan Mall used to be a mecca for the latest electronics and IT goods – with exclusive deals if you were a regular customer. The mall envisions to be more than that in the lead up to its opening on 28 June 2019, and we can’t wait to have it all.
After a three-year makeover, Funan Mall intents to inspire play, learning, creativity and connection by adopting six themes – tech, craft, play, fit, chic and taste – and they have exciting tenants to prove it.
Funan Mall reopens after three years
New kids on the block
Head on down to experience many firsts, including Dyson’s (yes, the creators of this genius hair-styling tool) first standalone boutique and the Southeast Asian debut of Brompton Junction’s iconic folding bikes. Cinema-goers and theatre lovers will be happy to know that cinema operator, Golden Village will unveil a seven-screen multiplex with cool new seating concepts such as Deluxe Plus and Gold Class Express. A state-of-the-art theatre and studio by local theatre group, Wild Rice will attract culture vultures. Gym buffs will be pleased to know that the TFX fitness centre will boast excellent features like a swimming pool (with a splendid view) and an outdoor relaxation deck.
The key phrase is shop (and eat) local
We’re all for some local loving around here, so you can imagine how excited we are about Funan Mall’s massive list of homegrown labels (over 60% if we’re talking numbers!). Jewellery brand, Carrie K. will debut its first standalone boutique; fashion label, Love, Bonito will be opening its largest outlet in the city; and get your hands on Another Sole’s first menswear collection at its boutique. Our fave conscious lifestyle store Green Collective SG will be there too!
Where the foodies at? Sip on fresh brews by coffee roaster Papa Palheta, at its first employee-owned cafe, PPP Coffee or get a cuppa at Sinpopo Coffee. Furniture store, Grafunkt will also be unveiling its first bistro. Alternatively, make your way to the Urban Farm (we’ll get to this later) at level 7 for Japanese cuisine at Noka, satisfy your cravings for mod-Peranakan cuisine and Peranakan-inspired cocktails at Godmama and get your Mexican fix at Guzman y Gomez.
Features that make you go: ‘say, what?’
As with any new mall, comes new features and Funan Mall has plenty. Take the futsal court, indoor cycling paths, rock-climbing facilities, Funan’s Tree of Life retail pods and the Urban Farm as examples. Yes, plenty of ways to entertain yourself. We’re really curious about the Urban Farm operated by Edible Garden City. It’s a cool farm-to-table concept where farmers can work with chefs to curate, harvest and supply pesticide-free produce to Funan. Smart!
Like it or not, Singapore’s crushing it with our shopping malls and Funan Mall is no exception.
