Highlights of the dinosaur exhibition in Singapore

Live your best Jurassic Park dreams as you stroll through the exhibition and learn about prehistoric life through five major mass extinction events. Things start off tame during the Cambrian and Ordovician periods, approximately 500 million years ago, before transitioning into eras like the Triassic and Jurassic, which are filled with a wide range of dinosaurs, from familiar ones to new faces.

From Diplocaulus to Dimetrodon, it’s fascinating to uncover new insights about these extinct creatures. If you enjoy interactive fun, look out for stamp stations and excavation activities (both virtual and physical) within the exhibition. I unearthed Allosaurus and Velociraptor fossils after giving the on-screen game a shot!

The star of the show is undoubtedly Patagotitan mayorum, the jaw-dropping 40-metre centrepiece. Weighing about 57 tonnes, it’s believed to be one of the largest dinosaurs to walk the Earth. Step closer and you’ll find the titan’s real fossils underneath its cast. P.S. don’t miss out on the documentary screening about the 2014 discovery of the fossil in Argentina and the creation of the full-scale cast.

Of course, you can’t have a dinosaur exhibition without a T-Rex. That’s where Scotty, the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered in North America, comes in. At 13 metres long, the predator’s full-scale cast towers over you with its gigantic frame. The original is currently housed at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Canada.

Oh, and did you know the fearsome T-Rex has a buddy with a similar skeleton? The Tyrannotitan, discovered in Argentina, is also a carnivore that fed mainly on herbivorous dinosaurs. Fun fact: nearly 60 of its teeth were found among the remains of Patagotitan.
Besides an awe-inspiring display of dinosaurs, the exhibition also takes you on a journey through Earth’s most catastrophic moments, with more than 30 displays of nature’s greatest upheavals. Closer to home, Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum draws from its collection to speak of Singapore’s extinction story. The selection of specimens includes the giant squirrel and rufous-collared kingfisher, both of which are now nationally extinct.

Before you leave, browse through the retail section for plushies ($24.90), tote bags ($12.90), toys like dino egg dig kits ($69.90) and dinosaur skeleton dig kits ($21.90), mini water guns ($5) and more.
Is it worth visiting?

If you’re a dinosaur fan or your little ones love ’em, this dinosaur exhibition in Singapore is well worth the trek to Jurong.
