Formerly a Catholic convent, the beautiful and recently renovated CHIJMES houses some of Singapore’s buzziest dining and nightlife establishments including Gyu-Kaku, Lei Garden Restaurant and Hog’s Breath Café.
Now, there’s more to the historical building than food and drink. Its palatial, old-world setting – Gothic architecture, green lawns, marble waterfalls, and spatial courtyards – provides the perfect backdrop for… ballroom dancing. In September, the CHIJMES hall will come alive with Dance with Us, a workshop event held in collaboration with Sunny Low Dance Studios.
Learn the moves of cha cha, waltz and rock ‘n’ roll under the guidance of instructor Aleena Tan over the course of three two-hour sessions on 2, 10 and 16 September. The dance veteran, currently the Vice President of Asia Pacific Dance Council and a highly sought-after examiner and adjudicator, has taught performers on wheelchairs, so fret not if you think you have two left feet.
What’s more, one lucky winner from the workshop will receive a pair of DanceLife shoes worth $160, courtesy of Sunny Low Dance Studios, at the end of the course. Classes are suitable for beginners, and cost $120 (exclusive of GST) per person for three sessions. To register a spot, visit the Dance with Us website, make payment via Paypal, print your receipt and bring it along to your first class. Get moving!
