Chloe uses movement therapy and embodiment workshops to help those experiencing a separation between mind and body due to stress, anxiety, burnout and more.
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a comprehensive digital networking platform (with IRL benefits, too) that encourages connection, business support and community. It’s a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented and inspiring folks, so we’ve decided to share the love by interviewing some of the lovely Launchpad members. Looking for inspiration? Check out how Chloe Calderon Chotrani, the founder of Body as Earth, gets it done like a boss.
What is your backstory and why did you decide to launch your business?
My gifts are about connecting people to their bodies. Feeling disconnected can come in the form of anxiety, burnout, fatigue, or chronic stress. Connecting with our bodies is a healing balm that can offer insight and clarity. Our bodies are a vessel for transformation. Body as Earth is the meeting of ourselves as nature. As a response to the ecological crisis, I hope this space will offer humanity more interconnection.
What has been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?
I grew up with selective mutism – I was unusually shy as a child, with a lot of social anxiety. However, I loved dancing! As a child, I was thrilled to dance in front of thousands of people. After I dance, I go back to being quiet. This odd upbringing gifted me with a keen embodied and kinaesthetic intelligence to listen to the language of the body. Dancing was my saving grace and I always fully understood its healing powers. I truly believe it’s through the body that we can discover a deep reservoir of healing.
How do you keep stress levels low?
When we’re in a heightened state of stress, our shoulders shrug up, our eyebrows clench, and our hips become tighter. All these tendencies won’t help us make better decisions, nor will they give us the clarity we seek. If we want to bring our stress levels down, we need to start with the body. Bring the shoulders down, lean into the spine, and feel our feet on the floor. It’s through the body that we can change the mind.
Favourite places to work?
Home. You have control of your environment, free-flow complimentary coffee and tea, and space to stretch for a necessary breather. The occasional neighbourhood cafe is nice for a change of environment, too.
Can you share a work mantra that you use?
My top 2: How you do anything is how you do everything. Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water; after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.
One thing you can keep talking about for hours?
The wisdom of our bodies as a vessel of infinite information about ourselves and the world!
Your go-to self-care activity?
Time in nature, no doubt. Nature offers a vast and wide space for contemplative action. It’s also inevitably honest and brutal, and that’s a good reality check-in.
One piece of advice to your younger self?
Listen to your intuitive instinct. No matter how people sway you, come back to you.
