Since Shop Wonderland’s opening on our street, we’ve been guilty of frequently popping over for a quick caffeine fix, or spending late lunches surrounded by the cafe’s swoon-worthy interiors and abundant flowers. But more than just a gorgeous place to dine at, the cafe also offers stunning ready-made cakes ($85), with subtle floral flavours and the prettiest of presentations. To customise your own, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Cake Spade’s (pictured above) phenomenal selection of baked treats might leave your head spinning, so we’ll go ahead and recommend its most interesting creation: the strawberry tofu cheesecake (price ranges from $49 for 7 inch to $109 for 10 inch). This specialty cheesecake is lighter and less sweet than the ones you’re probably familiar with, and features a jelly topping with fresh strawberries encased within. You can also pick a fresh peach topping with a choice of either digestive or oreo bases.
Cake Spade, 83 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088504. p. 64444 3868.
The one thing better than eating a great cake? Having one that looks spectacular. For this tall order, the first name that comes to our minds is Susucre, a bakery in Singapore that makes delectable cakes that are too beautiful to eat, and too gorgeous to forget. These folks are as much artists as they are top-notch bakers. Each one of their wondrous creations is customised, and there is (as we’ve so delightfully experienced) nothing that they can’t do. Our fantasies turned into reality when Susucre whipped up beauts on our birthdays – we’ve had a unicorn, a book, an ocean filled with sea creatures, a cat, a dog, and heck, even a robot for our hatchday!

The Ugly Cake Shop
Don’t let the name fool you, The Ugly Cake Shop bakes some of the most beautiful cakes we’ve ever seen, like the ombre cake with its beautiful shades of pastel colours and rose-patterned icing. If you’re not impressed by fancy frosting, you’ll be happy to know that you can choose from a range of interesting cake flavours like salted caramel and the decadent peanut butter and dark chocolate. What’s more, the cakes are for a cause; part of the profit goes towards feeding hungry children in Timor Leste. Score good karma points this b-day!

While we love our fancy Instagram-worthy cakes, piled high with filigree and ornamentation, sometimes, we like to go back to (very well done) basics. Pure Pandan’s our first stop for when we’re craving a good ol’ pandan chiffon cake. Its signature creation, the classic pure pandan, is light, fluffy and filled with pandan richness. Want something more exciting? Opt instead for the absolute chocolate chiffon made with French cocoa, chocolate chips and topped with chocolate shavings.

The Fabulous Baker Boy
Cakes here are, indeed, fabulous. What stands out to us is their “Ms Diva” range where their cakes are named after – yup, you guessed it right – Hollywood divas. For fans of the Goddess herself, get them the Ms Beyonce ($85) that packs a punch with a lemonade-inspired flavour, blending lemon and yoghurt in a sponge cake. Their style on cake décor is also minimalistic – perfect for small and intimate birthday celebrations.
