The bustling enclave of Holland Village in the West is a prime pick for a couple of casual tipples. Here are five bars that are perfect to kick back in with ice-cold beer, cocktails, wines and bar bites galore
Holland Village has long been one of our favourite haunts thanks to its wide variety of restaurants and bars. Need a primer? We’ve picked five of our favourite bars in this Singapore neighbourhood for ice-cold beer, wine, cocktails and more – and some of them have fantastic happy hour offers as well!
The Pit Restaurant & Bar
Like Barossa, The Pit Restaurant and Bar offers a range of Archipelago brews in a casual, laid-back venue. Also worth noting are the buffalo wings if those beers get your tummy rumbling.
The Pit Restaurant & Bar, 21 Lorong Liput, Singapore 277733. p. 6468 3468.
Wala Wala
Bar bites, beer and live music? If those are the three things you look for when you’re out for a good time, head to Wala Wala and let your hair down with some good company and great music. On tap are brews like Tetley’s, Kronenbourg 1664 and both light and dark Asahi, and on the drinks menu are classic cocktails galore. When a couple of pints of Asahi have got your tums rumbling, fill up with bar bites like the kielbasa sausage platter and a selection of pizzas.
Wala Wala, 31 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277689. p. 6462 4288. Open Mon-Thu 4pm-1am, Fri 4pm-2am, Sat 3pm-2am, Sun 3pm-1am.
Harry’s
The throngs of regulars can’t be wrong – this good-vibe-y (can change to buzzy?) chain of bars is popular for its affordable bar bites (get the wings!) and its fantastic one-for-one daily happy hour (from 5pm to 8pm) on beers, house spirits, and house wine. If you like your beers, it’s worth noting that the one-for-one happy hour includes Harry’s Premium Lager. The bar regularly screens sporting events too, so come by early to make sure you get a seat for the game.
Harry’s, 22 Lor Mambong, Singapore 277681. p. 6467 4222.
Baden
Who needs posh when you’ve got good German nosh like pork knuckles and curry-wurst? The former comes tender on the inside, crispy on the outside – proof that pub grub doesn’t always mean cheap fried frozen food. Of course, like any self-respecting German pub, Baden offers a variety of classic German brews like Erdinger Weissbier.
Baden, 42 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277698. p. 6463 8127.
