Awesome Australian and New Zealand-themed places for you to eat, drink and celebrate Anzac Day, Australia Day, Melbourne Cup, and more in Singapore
The best thing about living in a cosmopolitan city like Singapore is having bits of the world scattered around town, through the variety of cuisines, themed establishments and cultural festivals found in the city. For folks who have strong affinities with Down Under (whether you’ve lived there or simply love the countries), we’ve gathered a list of Aussie and Kiwi bars you can go to reminisce, eat, drink and celebrate special events like Anzac Day, Australia Day, and Melbourne Cup in Singapore.
South Coast
Have some drinks at this laidback bistro and bar situated in uptown Marina Bay Sands. Overlooking the Singapore River, South Coast is a nice bar to idle your day away. The staff are real welcoming too – a big plus point if you’re new in town
South Coast Bistro and Bar, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands #01-85, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956, p. 6688 7600.
Moo Bar and Grill
Barbie, booze and a good dose of laughter makes a complete Aussie meal in our opinion. Inspired by barbeque nights down under, Moo Bar and Grill is the place for an after work tipple and a perfectly charred steak. It’s constantly packed on weeknights, so be sure to make a reservation before gathering your mates.
Moo Bar and Grill, 21 McCallum Street, Singapore 069047, p. 6634 2662.
Barossa
Although this chilled outback bar can also be found at Holland Village, we prefer the outlet located right by Esplanade’s stunning waterfront. The drinks here are surprisingly cheap and they even give away free Angus beef sliders during Happy Hour (Mon-Fri, 6pm-8pm). While there are some misses in service standard, it wasn’t enough to affect us from having an awesome time. Beer on tap is locally brewed Archipelago.
Barossa, #01-11 Esplanade Mall, 8 Raffles Avenue, Singapore 039802, p. 6534 5188.
Intrepid Gastro Bar
Wishing you were back in Melbs? Then this Melbourne-inspired restaurant will certainly make you feel right at home. Intrepid, like Melbourne, oozes creativity. Look at their menu and you’ll find juicy Kangaroo sliders, exotic tandoori crocodile skewers and savoury vegemite ice cream. Food here is of true Aussie quality; it will leave you raving to the mates back home.
Intrepid Gastro Bar, #01-01 Far East Square, 40 Pekin Street, Singapore 048770, p. 9068 8297.
Salt Tapas & Bar
This modern tapas bar is unapologetically Australian. Offering a tongue-in-cheek atmosphere with its edgy décor, Salt Tapas & Bar scores full points for ambiance, service and taste. Besides offering a vast selection of old and new world wines, the vibrant bar also has their own version of Sangria and tons of unique cocktails. Try the owner’s signature mix – The Australian.
Salt Tapas & Bar, #01-22A, Raffles City Shopping Centre, Raffles City, 252 North Bridge Road, Singapore 179103, p. 6837 0995.
Boomarang Bistro and Bar
Leave the comfort of your couch and catch the next Rugby match at Boomarang. Constantly packed with Rugby fanatics on match days, this is one of the best sporting bars in town. Everyone here is really friendly and welcoming too – it’s no wonder everyone’s a regular! They also prepare one of the best weekend brunches in town, promising to cure any hangover.
Boomarang Bistro and Bar (Robertson Quay), 60 Robertson Quay, #01-15 The Quayside, 238252, p. 6738 1077.
Boomarang Bistro and Bar (Boat Quay), 52 Circular Road, Singapore 049407, p. 6536 4990.
Prince of Wales
This unpretentious bar also poses as a hostel. Modelled after backpacker pubs in Melbourne, grab a cheap pint with your pals and chill out to live music or watch the game. Owner and staff are really friendly too, which is a big plus in our books. On tap are Speights Gold Medal Ale (NZ), Pure Blonde Lager (AUS) and Red Rock Lager (AUS).
Prince of Wales Boat Quay, 51 Boat Quay Singapore 049840, p. 6557 2498.
Prince of Wales Little India, 101 Dunlop Street Singapore 209420, p. 6299 0130.
Fern & Kiwi
Any Kiwis craving for a local bite have to swing by to Fern & Kiwi. One of the few restaurants in town that offers authentic New Zealand cuisine, disappointment is not on their menu. Feast on their classic pork spare ribs and wash it down with a frothy Super Cold Steinlager served on tap.
Fern & Kiwi, #01-02/03 The Cannery, 3C River Valley Road, Clarke Quay, Singapore 179024, p. 6336 2271.
Moa Tiki New Zealand Bar & Grill
Located in Changi City Point, Moa Tiki New Zealand Bar & Grill is kinda out of the way if you don’t live in the east. But if you ever do make a trip down, you won’t regret it. Serving 10 types of award-winning Moa beers on draft & a selection of fine wines from Marlborough New Zealand, this downbeat bar also screens rugby and hosts live music every other day.
Moa Tiki New Zealand Bar & Grill, #01-70/71 City Point, 5 Changi Business Park Central 1, Singapore 486038, p. 6636 3353.
