Shadowplay, visual art, yoga, and hands-on workshops await you at the Aliwal Arts Night Crawl 2017 stretching along Kampong Glam, Arab Street, Haji Lane and more
Being National Day month and all, August is a great month for exploring all the things to do in Singapore and seeing its attractions for sightseeing. So here’s another one for you artsy types! Besides being known for a centre of culture and heritage, the Kampong Glam precinct gets artsy for the annual Aliwal Arts Night Crawl happening on 19 August. A multi-disciplinary arts festival, the event aims to elevate local art and talent while paying homage to the rich heritage of the Arab Quarters.
The theme for this year is inspired by the ancient Javanese art of shadow puppetry, Wayang Kulit, and will introduce visitors to this tradition with its activities and mini-events happening in the area. From Aliwal Arts Centre to Haji Lane, everywhere is going to be bustling with activities from 5 to 11pm.
Taking on a contemporary twist to a traditional art, you can silkscreen and colour your own shadow puppet with street art collective, RSCLS;explore shadow play through visual artist, Empyreal, at the festival; or even participate in some outdoor sundown yoga. There’s a whole list of activities happening, so you’re going to be pretty busy. Get out there on the 19th!
