Fascinating enough, our body drops clues through dreams, but this could be fact or fiction. There’s more to what you (don’t) know about dreaming of your teeth falling out!
Does dreaming about your teeth falling out mean it’s time to pay a visit to your dentist? Possibly not. Not to sound dramatic, but it can be bone-chilling to see yourself looking at the mirror with missing teeth even if it isn’t real. Whether you believe in the meanings behind dreams or not, it’s always an interesting read. Here are seven possible interpretations of dreaming about falling teeth.
What does it mean to dream about falling teeth?
1. Insecurity
Okay yes, saying you feel insecure can be a bit too broad because let’s face it, each and every one of us have our own insecurities. And being insecure leads you to overthink, or well, overthinking can lead you to become insecure – a vicious cycle really. You could be insecure about your current or future financial situation, your self-image and the thought of ageing could be daunting, or you’re constantly distraught with what others think of you and how your actions are perceived.
2. Personal Loss
Dreaming about losing your teeth could also mean you’ve just dealt with, or are dealing with a personal loss. This loss could be a sudden death of a loved one or a distant relative or friend, a breakup (friendship or relationship), or an unexpected resignation from work. Or it could even be losing your favourite watch, it really is personal when we mean personal. Depending on the magnitude of your loss, it could lead to depression which makes your sleep go haywire.
3. Stress and anxiety
Ahhh yes, everything you read about eventually leads to one thing: anxiety, but this is one thing that ties all of the others together. Now, bear in mind that stress and anxiety are two different concepts. Stress is more short-term, like it could be because of working from home. Anxiety on the other hand, is more long-term and can be chronic.
Being stressed out negatively impacts your sleep and a poor slumber could lead to nightmarish dreams like teeth falling out. Suffering from anxiety means your body is always in a fight or flight mode and you’re constantly mulling over the worst case scenario, one of them being losing all your teeth.
4. Grinding your teeth
Following the flow of #3, anxiety makes you clench your jaws without you even realising it. Your body will naturally be stiff and tense. The clenched jaw leads to teeth grinding at night when you’re fast asleep. Chances are you don’t even know you’re doing this! Grinding your teeth does lead to wear and tear in extreme cases, so it’s no surprise our body reacts by sending signals to your brain that your teeth are going to fall out.
5. Indecisive about a major change
Perhaps a major change in approaching you and you don’t know which direction to take. It could be moving to another city, country, or continent. It could be shifting to a new job, or it could be moving to a new house. We’re humans, it’s natural for us to feel jittery about change.
6. Jealousy
Dear person of the 21st century, have you been scrolling endlessly on social media again? It’s so easy these days for us to fall into the delusion of a perfect life, especially online. We may or may not even realise our jealousy, and such feelings can lead to subconscious paranoia which leads to dreams on self-image; dreaming of falling teeth being one of such dreams.
7. Indication of poor health
Having recurring dreams about falling teeth may mean it’s time to see if your health is in check. If you’re lacking exercise, hit up the gym, or a pilates class. Maybe even go for a swim to get full cardio. Grab your health insurance and go for a full body check-up to look out for underlying health issues. Maybe consult a nutritionist to get an extra hand in detoxifying your body. All in all, take care of your body as poor health can lead to improper sleep.
Bottom line, there’s nothing to panic about if you have dreams about teeth falling out, it could simply be a sign of growth. However, if you think chronic stress and anxiety is what’s leading you to have such dreams, you can try out some simple mindfulness exercises at home to feel at ease, or try talking it out with a counsellor.
