When it comes to nights of dancing, drinks, and debauchery, there’s no neighbourhood that compares to Lan Kwai Fong (LKF).
Regarded as the party capital of the 852, Lan Kwai Fong is a notorious neighbourhood that’s largely synonymous with a rowdy night out. Although LKF only spans two physical streets (plus a few surrounding streets, unofficially), it’s stuffed with some of the most popular nightclubs, “drunk-food”, and bars in Hong Kong. For newbies on the scene or even seasoned partiers looking for a change in routine, we’ve put together a guide for exploring this wild area after dark. We’ll tell you where to go, what to eat, and even how to make it home after, so you can party with peace of mind.

How to get to Lan Kwai Fong
Thanks to its central location (literally), getting to LKF is a breeze with most modes of public transportation – the most convenient of which is the MTR. Simply alight at the Central MTR Station before making the short two-minute walk over to the neighbourhood. If you’re taking a cab or a car, be aware that the road entrances leading directly into LKF are blocked off on Friday and Saturday nights. We recommend getting off at Wellington Street or Wyndham Street first, then making your way further on foot.
Best Lan Kwai Fong clubs and bars
Due to the size of LKF, it’s not difficult to make your way through the area on foot (just beware of the crowds). So, you might even be able to squeeze in three or four spots in one night. In fact, we think the best way to party in Lan Kwai Fong is by bar or club hopping into the wee hours of the morning! Here are some of our go-to Lan Kwai Fong bars and clubs.
1. Geronimo Shot Bar
Smack dab in the middle of Lan Kwai Fong is Geronimo Shot Bar, where the drinks are strong and cheap while the vibes can range from chill to wild. A good place to stop by if you’re looking to budget for the night, Geronimo rarely has a cover charge. What it does have are darts, a small outdoor ledge, and just enough room to whip out your best dance moves. You can even try to tackle the infamous 15 Shot Challenge which, responsibly, we probably shouldn’t recommend.

2. Aoao
Up for partying under the stars? After grabbing an early bite in this izakaya’s dining room, you can head to Aoao’s stunning al fresco terrace, as it quickly becomes one of the hottest clubs in Hong Kong come nightfall. Along with frequent live DJ sessions, Aoao’s creative cocktail menu will keep your palate happy while you get buzzed. Is the dizzying array of skyscrapers not enough of a spectacle for you? Get a glimpse of the incredible visual art wall projections for a truly immersive clubbing experience.

3. Faye
You know you’re having a prime Hong Kong clubbing experience when you can literally see the city all around you as you groove to the beat! Not only is Faye one of LKF’s quintessential clubs, its rooftop bar also offers stellar views of the 852. With its stylish cocktail lounge, plush skydeck seats, and palpable energy, Faye is typically the culprit behind the queue that forms at California Tower every weekend.

4. Stockton
Although Lan Kwai Fong may be the poster child for loud, in-your-face carousing, it’s also home to a few of the city’s finest speakeasy bars. At the end of a dark alleyway on Wyndham Street, announcing its presence with a single lightbulb, is the secret whisky bar Stockton. Inside, you’ll find luxurious furnishings and interior design features that call back to the days of late 19th-century London. While it’s a given that whisky lovers will have a ball here, don’t discount the skills of the talented mixologists!

5. Sam Fancy
Called after the Canto name for San Francisco, Sam Fancy serves up Bay Area Chinatown vibes with its classic cocktails and American-Chinese bites. While known for its Pina Coladas, the mixologists here don’t coast on that popularity. Frequently introducing new concoctions, you’ll be sipping on some seriously creative cocktails. Be sure to visit both floors at Sam Fancy, as Association acts as more of a dive bar while The Merchant upstairs gives a more refined touch. If you find yourself veering too far into the drink here, just place an order of crab rangoons!

6. Tsui Wah Restaurant
After feeding LKF’s late-night crowds since 1998, beloved cha chaan teng chain, Tsui Wah Restaurant, shuttered its Wellington Street location during the height of Covid restrictions. Finally, after four long years, the 24-hour gem returns in October 2024 to the joy of imbibers far and wide. Those who are looking for the authentic Hong Kong party experience should make sure to drop by Tsui Wah to partake in some HK-style drunk food and save yourself from the brink of black-out!

7. Grill Cambo
Unmissable for anyone venturing into Lan Kwai Fong, Grill Cambo’s bright red sign is a beacon for clubbers looking to pack in some solid calories after a night of consuming liquid ones. Boasting a menu full of various skewers as well as rice and noodle dishes, Grill Cambo’s easy access makes it one of the most popular LKF restaurants for post-party eats (and for refuelling between bars). Open until the wee hours of the morning on Fridays and Saturdays, you can always count on Grill Cambo for some hot protein and carbs.

8. Up 9
Most commonly and simply known as “Momos” – what it serves best – Up 9 is a bit tricky to find, so make sure you’re aware of its location before the alcohol starts kicking in. The fried momos at this Nepalese joint make prime drunk food, but we personally prefer the boiled ones, along with a platter of fried rice. Pro-tip: Up 9 is in the same building as Geronimo’s, but remember to take the correct elevator for odd numbered floors.

9. Ebeneezer’s Kebabs & Pizzeria
Flavourful and just the right amount of messy, kebabs are undoubtedly a top hangover food in Hong Kong. For its convenience, affordability, and reliability, Ebeneezer’s Kebabs & Pizzeria often wins the battle for many partiers searching for provisions when stumbling out of a club. In addition to a variety of kebabs, curries, pizzas, and more, the Lan Kwai Fong location also has multiple large fridges, full of boozy drinks – for those looking to rally after a quick bite.

Leaving Lan Kwai Fong
Unless you’re having an early night, you likely won’t catch the last train after partying in LKF. Luckily for those who live in Kowloon and don’t want to pay for a cab, there’s an overnight red minibus to Mong Kok. Boards on the corner of Queen’s Road Central and D’Aguilar Street, and make sure you have at least $25 in cash. For those who live on Hong Kong Island, the quickest taxi queue is in front of Landmark Atrium. Don’t be intimidated by how long the line may get, as it moves pretty fast. And remember: don’t give in to any drivers who ask for extra charges!

While not directly on the LKF streets themselves (imagine the noise!), these accommodations are all conveniently located just a few steps away.

With rooms decorated in oriental style, this hotel is one of the best choices for staying within walking distance of LKF, in addition to public transportation, landmarks, and more. The hotel also has a 24-hour gym and kid-friendly amenities, so business and family travellers are also more than welcome.
