It's finally time to make a booking at newly-opened Chaiwala in Central, so grab your crew and get feasting on modern Indian cuisine and exotic cocktails
Whether you’re looking for child-friendly restaurants or fine dining, new restaurants in Hong Kong pop up every week, making the city a veritable heaven for foodies. But we’re particularly excited to share the news that Chaiwala has just opened its doors in Central. Get excited for this one, peeps!
The design at Chaiwala
Located just a short distance from the new Tai Kwun complex on Wyndham Street. Chaiwala is a vibrant space that’s inspired by the frenetic energy of India. Divided into three spaces, the Chai Bar features a vintage Indian chai stand, with booth seating, while from the Kitchen, guests can catch a glimpse of the chefs in action. In the Dining Room, pendant lamps hang from the ceiling as floating fabrics add intrigue from above.
Modern Indian cuisine
But what about the food? Well, the menu has been crafted by Culinary Director Chef Bala, and it spans the Indian subcontinent, featuring dishes from north to south. To keep things simple, those who wish to try a little taste of everything, can opt for the Dabbawala Menu ($480), which includes a selection of signatures from Chaiwala, along with some of the chef’s favourites.
From the Chaat menu, guests can enjoy Pani Puri ($90) stuffed with either a vegetarian filling of potato and chickpea or tender chicken tikka, while small plates include the likes of Malabar Scallops ($190), Pink Salt Salmon ($210) or Wagyu Seekh Kebab ($260).
If you love a curry, then Chef Bala’s famous Kerala Fish curry ($140) may be for you, or try something different and opt for the charred Lobster Nerulli ($390) which is grilled with south Indian spices for a fragrant night delight.
Of course, there are exciting drinks to be had too, including a selection of creative cocktails, G&Ts and Punches that feature wonderfully aromatic Indian spices.
