Whether you like it American style and coated with cream cheese frosting, or you like to keep it minimal and light the Nordic way, you’ll find your favourite in this list of places to get cinnamon buns in Hong Kong.
Hong Kongers have a sweet tooth, that’s for sure! From egg tarts to ice cream to cake and cookies, we’re always in the mood for a nosh and a nibble on something sweet. So it’s not like we needed an excuse to survey Hong Kong’s best spots for cinnamon buns. But – in case you need a reason (we’re not judging) – October 4 is National Cinnamon Bun day in Sweden. We’ve done your homework for you, so just stick with our list of the best cinnamon buns in Hong Kong and enjoy!
Where to find the best cinnamon buns in Hong Kong
1. Squarestreet KAFFE
Hong Kong’s first Swedish cafe skips past the gooey and heavy cinnamon buns and goes for a light, airy Scandinavian version topped with sugar crystals. While we’d happily spend $48 for the cinnamon bun alone, the breakfast sets at KAFFE are definitely a steal – you can opt for a cinnamon bun with coffee and/or smoothie and your hearty breakie is all set!

2. Eat With Fabi
Sometimes an all-vegan, guilt-free cinnamon bun is all you knead! The made-to-order buns are made from scratch by the founder, Fabi. You can’t go wrong with the OG – the classic bun brushed with maple syrup – but don’t miss the other delicious flavours. Snickerz is peanut-butter goodness, Blueberry Jammin’ is fresh and crisp, and our personal fave – the Afternoon Pink Me Up – comes with a rosey frosting made from red dragon fruit and beetroot, sprinkled with pistachios.

3. Bakehouse
You may have been intrigued by the long line awaiting freshly baked goodness – but there’s a reason why the folks are patiently waiting for the doors at Bakehouse to open at 8am! The cinnamon pecan roll – made with a sourdough croissant layer base – uses spices sourced from Sri Lanka, and the rolls are topped with pecan bits (why not gild the lily?)! And since you’ll be waiting in line (most likely), you might as well also try the sourdough egg tart and almond danish!
Bakehouse has locations in Wan Chai and Soho.
4. Hjem
Enjoy the simple comforts of traditional Nordic ingredients and dishes at Hjem, which means home in Norwegian. Get cozy with a mug of tea and the temptingly fragrant cinnamon and cardamom bun – a Nordic classic that’s served soft and warm.
Hjem, 161 Hollywood Road, Hong Kong, p. 2362 9193
5. Passepartout
This dog-friendly cafe is a quaint pit stop if you’re around Causeway Bay. Try the intricately knotted cinnamon buns (praline gianduja style), which are baked fresh daily. Passepartout also offers a variety of other pastries and dishes – the Calcutta is a fusion-inspired take on butter chicken (but it’s all dry and fried with waffles, the Southern way!) – pair it with a cinnamon honey latte for some extra kick!

6. Proof
I don’t want none unless you got cinnamon buns, hun! Proof cranks out batches of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and buns every day, drizzled with a lavish salted caramel glaze (they’re pretty damn generous with the salted caramel!). We love the small touches in the bakery, like the handwritten menus on chalkboards that provide a homey and humble vibe.

7. Miam Bakery
For just $30, you can treat yourself to a yummy takeaway treat (there’s no dine-in). Don’t let the pale hues fool you, Miam Bakery’s cinnamon buns are one of the most sought after ones in the city with a generous coat of brown sugar and a strong flavour of cinnamon. And again, the price! Embrace your folds, and the cinnamon buns’!

8. Baked
These sourdough specialists may have the perfect recipe for one of the tastiest and most Insta-worthy cinnamon buns! Their Sourdough Cinnamon Bun stands tall and proud like a mountain, coated with cardamom cream cheese and garnished with pistachio crumble – pretty and delicious, all in one sticky package! Load up a takeaway box with croissants and cruffins, as well, and have a mini office/class party (or eat them all yourself, we’ll never tell)!
