So, more often than not, you’ll find me at home with my dogs, listening to a dog-calming soundtrack! - Pre-arrange transport: Grab and Gojek work well in Bali, but expect surge pricing and delays. You can pre-book BlueBird taxis, or hire a private local driver for the evening.
- Book early to avoid surge pricing: Hotels, events, and even restaurants raise prices closer to New Year’s Eve. Book early and look out for Early Bird tickets to save money.
- Go to day parties if you’re on a budget: Beach clubs like Potato Head and FINNS throw big (and expensive) NYE events. Instead, join daytime crowds, then head to a public beach to watch the fireworks for free at midnight.
- Withdraw cash early: ATMs often run out of money during the holidays. Withdraw what you need a few days in advance.
- Expect fireworks everywhere: Beaches and villages will be filled with fireworks – it’s loud, chaotic, and fun. For free shows, head to Seminyak, Canggu or Sanur beach.
- Look after Bali’s dogs: Fireworks can frighten local dogs. Many get lost or injured during NYE, so keep an eye out for “Lost Dog” posters and help where you can.

Don’t want to pay for a ticketed party? You don’t have to. Bali’s beaches put on a spectacular (and completely free) fireworks show every New Year’s Eve, with resorts, beach clubs and locals all launching their own displays right along the coast.
- Seminyak Beach is one of the best spots for this — plenty of beachfront hotels and beach clubs set off their own fireworks around midnight, so even without a ticket, you’ll get a front-row view from the sand.
- Canggu Beach offers a similar scene, with a slightly more laid-back, local crowd compared to Seminyak’s polish.
