Micro bakeries and pâtisseries are taking over every street corner. Here are the best bakeries in Bali for your daily dose of bread and baked goods.
When I head to a Bali bakery, I want the full spread: crusty sourdough, skilfully laminated croissants, and cakes worth every calorie. I’ve been eating my way around this island since 2006, and after living across four continents and coming back to Bali for good in 2021, I can tell you: the baking scene here has never been better.
Whether you’re hunting down a grab-and-go pastry before the beach, sourcing a custom birthday cake, or tracking down the best sourdough in Canggu, here are the bakeries I love the most, and why.
Why trust this guide
I’m Vici, Bali has been my home since 2006. I’ve lived across four continents, tasting my way through cafes, restaurants and bars. Honestly, I’m more of a savoury girl, so when I go for a baked good, it has to knock my sandals off: from the science of baking, to the presentation that screams “eat me!”, and the flavours that strike the balance between salty and sweet. These bakeries in Bali tick all those boxes, and many more!

The best bakeries in CANGGU
1. Barō Bakery
Artisanal bakery in Pererenan serving sourdough, brioche and creative pastries by Tartine-trained baker.

You can expect nothing but top quality breads at Barō Bakery as its owner, Emerson Manibo, used to work at Tartine, one of New York’s best bakeries. Try the artisanal ancient grain sourdough, sweet potato brioche or coconut milk bread. Flatbread is topped with regularly changing produce, from eggplant with bocconcini, to a rainbow of radishes. Our fave? The bread pudding – it’s finished with zesty passion fruit for a tropical kiss.
Must-try: Ancient Grain Sourdough, Sweet Potato Brioche, Spinach Mushroom Puff.
WhatsApp: +62 813 3994 8889

Opening hours: Daily, 7.30am – 4.30pm.
2. The Goat Father
The Goat Father might already be your go-to coffee stop and run club meeting point, but it’s also one of the best little bakeries in Canggu. Every time I pop by for a quick coffee to-go, I end up lingering at the pastry counter – a flaky croissant here, a lemon tart there, and a protein bar for when I need a proper fuel-up.
Everything here is made in-house with quality ingredients (including the coffee beans!) and a level of care that rivals some of the best cafes and bakeries in Canggu.
You can’t go wrong with the freshly-baked golden croissants or the soft cinnamon rolls, but the burnt cheesecake is seriously hard to beat. I say, grab a spot on the breezy patio, or an Iced Goat Latte, and watch the world go by. It’s an easy choice for a coffee date or a laid-back hangout.
Must-try: Croissant Pudding, Burnt Cheesecake, Protein Bars.

Avoid disappointment by going early as it opens at 7am and runs until everything sells out.
Must-try: Sourdough sandwiches, flourless chocolate cake, English muffin.

You’ll get a great caffeine fix thanks to their 100% Arabica beans, which are sustainably produced from local plantations and roasted in-house. It goes without saying that a cappuccino here goes perfectly with a croissant or pain au chocolat.
But better yet, try the sumac-spiced poached eggs served with toasted focaccia, or the delectable French toast with fluffy shokupan (AKA Japanese milk bread), berry jam, maple and golden cinnamon sugar. This one has become one of my regulars, and it’s great for GoJek deliveries too.
Must-try: Sourdough baguette, shokupan, apple pie.

Popular Canggu bakery on Batu Bolong with buttery pastries, sourdough and great coffee to-go.

Yes, this is the Canggu cafe that’s all over Instagram. You’ll spot the queue outside before you even arrive, but we can tell you, the wait is worth it. Gigi Susu is a cosy wooden shack just minutes from Batu Bolong Beach, and it’s been made famous for its freshly baked pastries, artisanal breads, and cute merch.
If you’ve got the time, settle in for a homemade beef pastrami sandwich with whole wheat sourdough, or a roasted butternut pumpkin salad. Otherwise, grab a cuppa and a buttery croissant before hitting the beach.

With its hanging vines and greenery, you’ll easily spot Bread Yard. It’s a little garden escape from Seminyak’s urban buzz, complete with baked goods that are SO much more than your average grab-and-go. I dropped in for a quick takeaway and was instantly tempted by rows of deeply golden croissants and neatly stacked whole-wheat loaves behind the counter. I also picked up a slice of cake – they have a wide selection to choose from, from carrot cakes and tiramisu to my all-time favourite: Basque cheesecake! This spot is where you can indulge and relax in Seminyak without the crowds.

Award-winning artisan bakery serving sourdough, croissants and pastries by a renowned Danish baker.

We know top quality when we see it (and taste it!), so that’s why the bakery at Rüsters in Ubud tops the list when it comes to fantastic baked goods. Not only dishing up delicious cakes and pastries, this bakery is run by Danish baker, Asger Skov Hansen. He’s worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in Denmark, and opened one of the most popular bakeries in Copenhagen, winning multiple national and international baking awards, like the Parisian Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie, AKA the World Cup of Baking.

Instagram-famous artisan bakery known for sourdough, baguettes, pide and freshly baked breads daily.

Roti Bohemia has three cute outlets hidden across Ubud, but my personal pick is the Tirta Tawar address. It’s not the largest, but perhaps the most iconic with its wooden shack and window display of slow-fermented bread baked daily. This artisan bakery in Ubud turns out beautifully crusty sourdough loaves and baguettes, as well as savoury pide with various toppings, plus sweet roti (BTW – “roti” means “bread”), cakes, brownies, and cookies too. You can simply grab-and-go, or take a seat inside the boho cafe and pair your baked goods with a cuppa.

Fold has earned quite a loyal following (of the most beautiful people, may I add?!), with its eye-catching green tiles, urban cafe vibes, and freshly baked sourdough loaves and viennoiseries – and that’s before I mention the most indulgent pastries and cakes! Their laminated bakes aren’t to be missed: think buttery croissants with crisp, shattering layers, alongside seasonal danishes filled with fruit or custard. The sourdough loaves are equally impressive: crackly crusts, airy interiors, and just the right tang. What stood out most was the consistency and attention to detail, from texture to flavour balance. Psst – Fold is so popular that it now boasts not one, but three locations across Bali.

21. Roti Made
Local Sanur bakery for fresh sourdough, cinnamon buns and handmade pastries with home delivery.

Small and unassuming, Roti Made is a local family-owned bakery for grab-and-go (or home delivery) you wouldn’t even know about unless you live in the area, or are friends with Sanur’s local and expat community. They run out fast, so I usually order ahead via WhatsApp, and pick up my freshly baked goods – often still warm from the oven! The sourdough loaves are the real stars here, from multigrain and pumpkin seeds, to rosemary and garlic – each one soft, airy, and packed with flavour. But if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’re in for a treat too. I could never resist the cinnamon buns and custard-filled Berliner, both indulgent without being overly heavy.
