To help your flower girl shine, we suss out six of our favourite hairstyles for your little attendant.
Now that you’ve got your dream dress settled, and your bridesmaids and groomsmen spiffily kitted out, it’s time to focus on the other stars of the show: your flower girls. Don’t underestimate their role in your walk down the aisle – these adorable petal droppers are the key to your memorable entrance.
Pinned-back perfection
This one’s great for casual ‘dos (and laid-back brides). Simply brush out any tangles, and leave the ends of the hair in loose, curls. Pull back the front section of hair and pin it at an upward angle with a floral accessory.
Romantic braids and dreamy curls
Confession: We’re absolute suckers for braids and flower crowns. Throw in loose curls into the mix and you’ll have our inner boho chicks swooning. Section off a portion of hair on each side and create two separate French braids before linking them in the middle. For a more romantic look, pull the sides into a waterfall braid. Finish off with loose waves and a crown of freshly-picked blooms.
Dutch pancake braid
Divide hair into three sections and style hair into a Dutch braid. Though similar to the French braid, this involves alternating the outside sections under the middle instead of over. As you braid, continue adding new strands of hair from the other side of the head. Secure with an elastic at the bottom, then loosen the braid by gently pulling on the knots and spreading them apart. As you loosen the top of the braid, be sure to pin the base down. Finish with hairspray and add fresh flowers or succulents – perfect for a dreamy garden wedding.
Upside down French braid and sock bun
Give the popular sock bun a fresh makeover with the addition of a sassy upside-down braid. Comb out hair to make sure it’s tangle-free. Tilt hair down, section off hair at the base, and work it into a French braid. Secure with an elastic. Put your hair in a high ponytail. Use a hair donut (alternatively, cut off the foot off a sock and roll it up) and spread the hair all around the bun till it’s barely visible. Wrap a hair elastic around the bun. This hairdo best works on medium to long hair.
Looped bun
Take the high bun to the next (yet still doable) level with this updo. This holds up in any situation – making it the perfect updo for your restless petal droppers. Pull hair into a high ponytail and into the shape of a bun. Leave it semi-secured. Loop the rest of the mane around and over it. Secure with bobby pins and neaten with hair spray.
Messy bun
Comb hair into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic. Twist the ponytail into an effortless bun and pick out loose strands along the sides to frame the face. Finish off with a statement hairpiece befitting of a glamorous flower girl.
