With flexible time slots and premium services at affordable prices, Urban Company is the mobile nail salon you’ll wish you’d known about sooner.
Ah, manicures. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them – especially during the buzzing Chinese New Year season. You know the drill. Remember to book an appointment ahead of time or risk your chances of missing out on a strong nail game. Oh, and add the crazy CNY surcharge, crowds, and the hassle of actually making your way to the nail salon after a long day? No thank you. Which is why I was psyched to find out about Urban Company’s mobile beauty services.
The booking
It’s hassle-free and easy. All you have to do is download the Urban Company app on your phone, pick your preferred service and your appointment is secured in five minutes, tops. Save precious time by arranging a nail sesh at your office or home, wherever is convenient for you! Besides manicures and pedicures, other treatments include eyelash extensions, men’s grooming, haircuts and facials. I secured my session five days ahead but bookings can be made at least two hours in advance with the last time slot at 8.30pm – great if you work long office hours. I picked the classic gel manicure and classic pedicure ($79). And best of all, there’s no CNY surcharge here.
On the day of my manicure, I found the comfiest spot at home and made sure my manicurist Fion had enough space to set up. She came fully equipped with all the tools required for a full mani-pedi session and took nothing less than two minutes to ready her work space. She even prepared a bag of water to soak my feet while I finished up some work on my laptop. It was utter bliss. Pro tip: Prepare some warm water for a soothing soak.
The process
Fion was great company as she shared highlights of her eight-year experience with me. She also had a face mask on the whole time, sanitised along the way and provided a new set of disposables including a toe separator, buffer and filer, just for me. She thoroughly whipped my nails into perfection, shaping them, removing cuticles and the whole shebang as I moved on to the next tough task – picking the colour. Am I the only one that takes forever to decide? Luckily for me, Fion brought her whole range of colours aside from the colour palettes I chose during the booking process. FYI: Nail art is also available at a small fee, so ask away! Or add it to cart via the app when you’re making a booking. I selected a poppin’ purple shade for my toes, and shades of green with a touch of sparkle for my hands.
The result
The final look is pretty commendable, and though it’s slightly different from my usual place, I’ll have to give in to the convenience and efficiency of it all. Since this is my first time, I can’t vouch for consistency just yet but if all manicurists are like Fion, I’ll be a happy regular. She even gave me the nail filer and toe separators she used on me. I was also pleasantly surprised that she did not force any sales packages towards the end. As for the clean up? It was super quick and fuss-free. To be honest, I was too busy looking at my pretty nails to realise she had already cleaned up. My home looked just like how it was before the manicure. All in all, I’ll definitely book a manicure session with Urban Company again.
