Elevate your style with the hottest statement pieces, funkiest prints, and coolest looks.
“Are you a waitress? ‘Cos you be serving looks!” That’s one compliment we hope to hear every day this year. But to do that, we’re going to follow these top style and fashion trends for 2024 to a T. From Peach Fuzz and gender-fluid outfits to loud prints and bright colours, these are the cool looks guys, gals, and non-binary pals should sit up and take notice. Baddies and daddies, it’s time to slay!
Slay 2024 with these style trends and looks
1. Peach Fuzz looks good on you
We’re just peachy keen about Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2024. It’s iridescent, luminous, and uplifting, and we love that the hue complements all skin tones. Peach Fuzz has already infiltrated many areas of the lifestyle world: the warm and cosy shade can be found on sneakers, apparel, cosmetics, wallpapers, and more. If you’d like to incorporate the colour into your style, you can either go loud and proud or understated and chic. For the first option, we recommend picking a couple of statement pieces that are guaranteed to make you stand out from the pack. If you prefer the second choice, accessories and makeup are safe bets.
For the style daredevils, why not have fun and make Peach Fuzz your hair colour? Of course, you’d have to bleach your mane first, but the result is worth it. The pink-orange shade looks great both in and out of the sun.
2. A leopard never changes its spots
If you think dyeing your hair Peach Fuzz is daring… honey, you ain’t seen nothing yet. This year marks the return of animal prints – specifically, leopard and cheetah. Who would’ve thought aunties at the wet market would be at the forefront of style trends in 2024? That wasn’t on our bingo card. TBH, leopard and cheetah prints are larger than life, so if you do decide to don them, don’t go with a head-to-toe look… unless you’re dressing up for Halloween or cosplaying as Scary Spice. A printed top is always the best option, while a pair of leopard print shoes gives off too-cool-for-school vibes.
Speaking of prints, gingham is also going to be big this year. It’s cute, it’s cottagecore, and any colour looks good in a gingham print. We will also make a case for the renaissance of polka dots. It’s simple but not intimidating for those venturing out of their comfort zone.
3. Guess who’s back? The real slim shady!
Say goodbye to 2023’s baggy era because slim is in again. Trousers are going down the narrow route, so it’s time to bring out the fitted, tailored pants and jeans you’ve hidden deep inside your closets. Go on and wear them out without fear of judgment. (Sorry skinnies, it’s still not your time yet. Maybe next year?)
4. Unexpected colour combos
Now, this is one 2024 style trend we can get behind. Are you done with the monochromatic look or just bored of the typical colour combinations? Here are some crazy colour schemes that you can try out. First up: purple and green, aka the Scooby Doo palette. We recommend going for pastel shades if you’re donning those colours; you’ll make heads turn with the combo choice. Orange and pink is another pairing we totally adore – there’s something fresh and feminine with this look. If you’re not into pink (gasp), swap that out for blue. No offence to Elle Woods, but orange is the new pink, and no, we’re not disturbed.
Are the abovementioned recommendations too daunting for you? No problem, you can go slow and easily by pairing different shades of grey. If you have fifty of them, go all out then. Grey invokes calmness and lends an air of mystery, so if that’s your concept, you can lean into this colour combo.
5. Make 2024 your glow-up era
Unless you’re into astrology or adamant about elevating your style this year, you can skip this step. If you’re still here, take a deep breath because what we’re about to tell you might get technical. First, you’ll need to look up your astrological birth chart and find out what’s your Venus sign. In astrology, Venus is the planet of beauty and aesthetics, so if you dress up by following the sign under this ruling planet, you’re gonna look so hot – like a house on fire.
There’s a lot of research involved in this, so take your time to consume everything. Astrolinaaa on TikTok has compiled a reference guide on dressing up according to your Venus sign, with specific celebrity examples.
6. Gendered fashion is a social construct
Fashion, but make it gender-fluid. 2024 sees the continuation of fashionistas donning apparel that blurs the lines between genders, and we’re so here for this style trend. We’ve seen many fashion-forward male celebrities dressing bolder, which is a cue for our menfolk. Retire the Uniqlo tees in all colours and boring pants, it’s time to get spicy. You can experiment with crop tops, mesh tops, shimmers, and even skirts. Psst: Don’t worry about people staring at you. They’ll get over it as long as you’re not self-conscious about your fashion decisions and carry yourself well. Confidence is key.
7. Go big or go home
So long, farewell, to the micro bags that took over everyone’s shoulders last year. Big and slouchy bags are going to have their moment – bonus points if they’re minimalist. Folks, you finally don’t have to sacrifice having only one thing with you when out and about. Just throw everything into one big bag, and off you go. Men, this goes for you too. No more dumping your stuff into your partner’s carriers! If you need inspo, check out these local brands that do big (and minimalist) bags well.
8. It’s a shoe-in
Sneakerheads, you need to pay attention to this. Onitsuka Tiger is going to be on trend again, so if you’ve been eyeing that Mexico 66 pair in yellow for the longest time – totally not talking about ourselves here – this is the universe telling you to go and get them. You’ll also spot the New Balance 9060 and Nike Zoom Vomero 5 on feet this year. Speaking of comebacks, ballet flats are set to be popular again, which makes sense, seeing as many girlies will still go for the balletcore look in 2024.
9. Thrifted looks? 100% yes
There’s a reason why the ’90s and early Y2K aesthetics continue to be a trendy hit this year. Gen Zs and millennials are (still) staying away from fast fashion and leaning into thrift shops. As they say, one man’s trash is another generation’s treasure. So long as you’re patient and willing to go through the piles, you’ll uncover plenty of gems. Go crazy at all these thrift stores across the island. One of our favourites is Woofie Warehouse, located at Golden Landmark Shopping Centre. Everything in the store is tagged at $10. What’s not to love?
10. Fashion aesthetics go crazier
@erika.dwyer Tag yourself, I’m so evil denim 😈👖 #2024aesthetic #aestheticoutfits #fashion #eclecticgrandpa #personalstyle #2024trends
Last year saw the booming of myriad aesthetics and fashion trends. Barbiecore dominated the second half of 2023, while old money and clean girl aesthetics gained traction thanks to celebrities like Sofia Richie. Looks with ridiculous names like Tomato Girl Summer, Coastal Grandmother, Fruit Girl, and Bimbocore were hits with snappy dressers too.
So what can we expect in 2024? Aesthetics that sway from the sane to the downright wacko. As we speak, Eclectic Grandpa is making its rounds across social media, and people are lapping it up. Can we nominate “Dishevelled Employee” as a style trend in 2024? Oh wait, that hits too close to home…
Dress up like the hottie you’re meant to be and slay these 2024 style trends.
